What kind of petty feud makes a publisher sit on a completed game but not release it? You're practically sitting on oil reserve but choosing not to drill. The Arkane Studio rumors makes it seem like they're starting from scratch.

And people say that Bethesda treats developers well, they might treat theirs well (not very evident when they have threatened to cancel the next Doom, although it's deserved), but other devs have done so much for so little with them.
Obsidian comes to mind.
Honestly, whoever manages external dev relations: fuck you. You are what's wrong with this industry.
Full game does not mean finished game. They might have been near alpha or locked the game's contenthttps://twitter.com/jasonlblair/status/340655497860489216

this stuff happens a lot, I think
Remember, Sleeping Dogs almost didn't come out.
No reason to throw Arkane under the bus over this. Talented and likely in need of the work.

I don't know what to tell you, I'm not rewarding Bethesda for an asshole move & Arkane still has Dishonored 2.
Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't they be working on a dishonored sequel ?
Multiple teams.
Which makes you wonder what team worked on Dishonored and what team would be working on this. The name brand isnt as important as the people working on it.
Correct me if I"m wrong, but we only saw a CGI trailer for Prey 2...no actual gameplay. Maybe the game was a disaster so Bethesda scrapped it.

Granted, it's pretty easy to talk about how awesome a game is when no one will ever play it. I just can't imagine a publisher scrapping a game close to completion, with lots of positive buzz behind it, if it was awesome. This guy is implying the complete opposite.
That they almost had a full, working game. His background seems to give him credibility.

The other release they stepped in and rebooted. If the leaked screens were any indication they may have been right to do so. Prey 2 on the other hand looked great.
The scary part about the Doom rumor was the implication that if they don't get the game going smoothly Id will be turned to a tech-only studio. Which is nuts when they're capable of gunplay as amazing as Rage. They're a few smart level designers away from another classic.

Seems like a lot of grief for a property that doesn't resonate with anybody. Go into any game store, ask people what they thought of Prey. The most common answer will be, "What?".

Wow I completely forgot about how amazing that game looked.
That game looked pretty far along in 2011 if they had all of those systems in place.
Real shame.
In other news, look what I got coming in the mail. Activates on Steam.
i never understood why Ubisoft did that, what's the point of buying his studio, firing him and putting his game on hold ?

Jason has an article on this, I almost forgot.
"Higher-ups at Arkane are telling the team to forget that it's called Prey 2 and just treat it like a new System Shock."
Not sure what to make of this... I mean, this doesn't exactly sound like Arkane is happy about it either. And now with this info...
