Probably because it'd be like making models in the intro classes Capcom plucks their modellers from.

Yeah.. style..

I guess uprezzed late 90s menu graphics are technically a style. Models and some of the stages look good, everything else is an eyesore. Largely because the hardware makes it look crummy, esp. when you look at how much characters contrast with the stages, where you know they wanted to do more 3D stuff but had to rely heavily on 2D assets and really simple geometry.

And that's Cross Generations of Heroes, Ultimate All Stars select screen looked even worse imo.

Naturally people had their expectations set when it was announced as a Wii title, so I don't have any comments on resolution or poly count. Also posting just an image doesn't do it justice. The movement of the UI, cuts, load-ins, and music all had style on the character select screen.

I bet if that was a marvel game enzo would be all over it saying how amazing it looked for a wii title and how cell shaded iron man looked so good on wii

Edit: Chun ryu and kinda morrigan look like ass in it tho everyone else looks good

Graphics were fine for its time. It was colorful, the effects were cool, and the movesets were a blast. Fighting games can be great even with dated graphics. Just look at MVCI.

Not sure what you're getting at here. Unless you mean you're the nerd in the middle photo.

Stop posting on gaf and get back to teaching, Jiyuna

Yeah I mean the nerd in the middle, and no it's not me lol.

I knew he worked as an English teacher (still does?) somewhere but had no idea it was a High School SDF prep academy. Had that double take "wait a minute" moment when I walked past the poster.

Does Laura have a hard counter? What about Guile? Counterpick!

Nah, he's a Mika player (at least he was in S1. He would be foolish to change.) Honestly, he'll do okay as he isn't bad at the game. It's just unfortunate. His pools for Smash are just as bad. Killers everywhere are going to Dreamhack this weekend.

I was thinking of entering Tekken, but based on what I've been hearing, it's definitely for the best that I didn't. All of the big names are showing up.

Getting bodied in person is one of the best ways to learn though.

I get bodied when I go to local weeklies, lol. I've stepped back quite a bit from fighting games over the past couple of months because I just don't have the time to invest in training. I'll hop on SFV or T7 every now and then to play a couple matches, but theres just too much going on right now in my life to make the commitment.

I still follow and support the community, but I personally can't jump into the shark tank right now.

That is often parroted but I feel it pits out the wrong image. You learn by mostly playing people around your level then playing a few above to see where you progress. Running into the shark tank is a horrible way to learn. All that does is make bitter people.

-His mom used to have a lot of debt from drinking and gambling. Growing up as a child debt collectors would come knocking on the door, he would say moms not home while Kuroda's mom made a run out of the house.
-His mom would come to his bedside with a knife and say "Let's die together" as a child. Seems like it happened a couple of times since he comments "It stopped after I grew up".
-His mom used to steal money from him when Kuroda used to kind of work (lining up in front of stores).

Mom of the year right there.

If needs help, I hope he can get it and he is willing to take the help. As a person who grew up with a shitty parent, yeah that will mess you up. Don't know what the psychology situation is in japan, and their views all i've heard is not great things. But I hope he can find help if he hasn't already

yikes. some very striking similarities to ChrisG's childhood
I don't know anything about his childhood either, but if its similar that's fucking horrifying.

I wouldnt' say MvC I has dated graphcis, more that it doesn't have a 'style' for the character models.

In TvC the models looked like they were made from cardboard. I think the game might look a little better if one were to downscale them.

Agreed, the stages and the effects look fantastic.

It's just that the 'art style' they've chosen to go with is drab AF and makes it look like a generic mobile game.

Nah, even with models/artstyle aside, some of the returning characters have really poor outdated animations, especially during win poses.

I was ready a book about Japan (Tokyo Vice which I highly recommend you it's a super fun polar and enlighting book about Japan in the nineties) and the author explains that going to a psychiastrist is/was seen as a weakness and psychiatrists are seen as scams. That's one of the reasons the sex industry is so proeminent in Japan. If you have to buy privacy, just go get a "massage".

I'm not gonna pretend the state of mental health in the country I live in is the best, or even ideal, but even in the rudimentary form we have it in now psychological issues are at least starting to be acknowledged with some level of tact, and being treated like a illness rather than a state of mind.
I'll check it out, because of heard simular things to what you are saying , and some worse stuff some particularly gnarly stuff from a japanese classmate and friend of mine I had in college.
We hard a particularly long conversation about the psychology of entertainment and how it reveals some fucked up social psychology from the country of origin
Anywho i'll give it a look

I guess it's changing as the book talks about a period that is probably a bit old now. Since the story talks about the nineties but is written today it sometimes is hard to know if things related to Japan are still present. Thanks for claryfiyng.

If you are talking about checking the book it's much more about how the press, the police and the yakuza work but it touches a lot of things about japanese society too. It's just not the main subject, more the background.
Isn't that a huge part of their business? Artists making adult content across different media? Why would they ban that?
Lastly, you cannot sell pornographic material or arrange sexual service(s) as a reward for your patrons. You can't use Patreon to raise funds in order to produce pornographic material such as maintaining a website, funding the production of movies, or providing a private webcam session.

If you have doubts about whether to mark your page as Adult Content or not, we always recommend that you do so for the sake of precaution. This is especially important as Patreon welcomes different communities with different sensitivities. You can read more about the Adult Content flag here.

This is what their guidelines say. Speculating, but Paetron is another start up in this area of 3rd party funding (it's just a really more organized version of paypal donations), might have potential investors who frown on the adult services stuff because it limits the potential of customers from everyone including children and families to just adults.

On more positive news, /r/salty, who made their board as a spinoff/off shoot of /r/kappa with some ex-mod was able to successfuly raise funds for Marc Teddy, and Pepeday to attend Canada Cup. They will be playing in SFV, USFIV, MvC:I, and Tekken 7.

I bought a couple of shirts to help support and pick up a couple of old designs since they seem to own the old designs that /r/kappa don't have.

Bandai Namco's facebook just did a huge dump of DBFZ images. Posting them here for all your high res enjoyment.

Seems to me that BOTH Captain Ginyu and Nappa are summon based movesets. From what I hear though Ginyu may be entirely using summons for the bulk of his moves much like Doronjo back in the day did in TVC. No real idea if this is true till trailers or build drop featuring them. Nappa is supposed to have the highest damage in the game and be one of the slowest so balancing that on ranged saibamen summons sounds sweet to me.
Fun fact...Bandai Namco embraces the Team Four Star stuff so all the hilarious Nappa voice actor stuff even inspired them in one of the xenoverse games to make a voice pack of that Voice Actor doing dumb move name lines for you to equip. I'd love to find out that they nabbed the Team Four Star Voice Actor again to use as a Voice Actor for Nappa's english lines lol.

For those here who may not know anything about Team Fourstar you should really check out the Dragonball Z abridged Nappa montages on youtube to get an idea just why this character got so popular in recent years and why he is not by any means a "wasted slot". The guy is an enormous draw online now. Plus he was in fact one of the longer and more imposing combatants in the original Z saga arc.

That said. I'm hype right now for trailers. Can't wait to see more video specifics on how these two flow in combat and combos.

I wouldn't be too surprised if all his specials and a super involve the Force.
