Final Fantasy Five Four Job Fiesta 2012

Ragnarok is no guarantee and Brave Blade is so much earlier and one of the joys of being a knight.

Hell you can even throw it on other jobs with Equip Swords sometimes for extra physical offense. It worked well on my Monk recently.

I'm pretty sure running from fights shortens the game by a lot more than the Brave Blade does.

Running from fights is cowardly! Brave Blade is so boss!

I hate running and only do it when a party can use the Chicken Knife well, so thief, ninja, dragoon, dancer.

Heh, kinda forgot to finish this for like a month, but decided to just power through it this morning and beat Neo Exdeath.

The fight was basically smashing everything with Flare Swordblade, till they died or I died.

It was fun (till I forgot about it), and I do look forward to doing this again next year. Maybe with some actual magic users this time.

Most of the really nasty encounters in this game are back attacks by vicious groupings of monsters and not bosses.

Update Time!

iwUKJaDV4vroq.png

Rapid Fire on Ranger and Time Mage, so dull battle overall. Didn't get Mind Blast for some reason.

ibwt2PalMNZ8K2.png

I was worried about this one, but made it through with Hi Potions.

ibnfNKGJEW0YHE.png

With the Memory cursor option, this was "press A to win".

ip6GDfR4Je8Hk.png

Didn't fight a single battle in here, thanks to Teleport. Got a Kaiser Knuckle for my Time Mage, and Meteor thanks to the Magic Lamp.

iQBLdxfzgKnV5.png

My next update will have me in the Rift, as I won't bother fighting Leviathan (I will enter Istory, though, for the Bow and the Sword).

I guess I'll beat Exdeath tomorrow. Might try and fight Omega first.

This little break was nice, but it looks like I won't have time for another one this year unless right on the last day.

In my final run, it look like my jobs are entirely from the wind crystal. (Yes, I asked for all of them now because I don't always have internet on my commute. So sue me.) Monk/Blue Mage/Thief/White Mage, which should be a very, very easy run. It irks me that I'll finally be able to steal the full set of Genji gear but this party can only use the shield (and won't anyway because I prefer the Aegis shield for mage types).

Team Monk did obliterate everything between the wind shrine and Garula, as expected. Now I have to go back for the starting blue magics, and I've missed Pond's Chorus. Can you get that in the Shiva area of Walse castle? The time for it to be most useful (Garula) has already come and gone, but I want it anyway.

Update time!

So I changed up my strategy a bit. Equip Bows and Gold Hairpin on the Time Mage (Quick + Meteor will do more than the Chicken Knife), Chicken Knife and !Rapid Fire on the Ranger. Oh, and MP + 30% on the Black Mage. Works a lot better.

iBdBbnlhjJ8sy.png

Easy.

ibmM94iUKksr7c.png
iblxzks3usIw6b.png

Special strategy for this. Everyone has a Reflect Ring, everyone except the Black Mage has !Blue. Black Mage has !Time and the Magus Rod. Everybody floating. Heal the Wave Beam with White Wind, reflect Haste off of Omega. When he casts Search, Black Mage casts Quick, reflects 2 Thundagas off the whole party. Repeat, keeping MP up when possible.

The biggest danger here is Maelstrom, which is instant death with sap on. Also, Flamethrower, but I got lucky and he targeted my Blue Mage, who had the Flame Shield.

Final Update: The Laws of the Universe mean nothing.

Best part about opening up the final save point is you can go to Exdeath, see the cutscene, and then go back and save if you want. Also I moved one step after starting this update and fought a Mover. This party with Gil Toss and boosted Firaga, not to mention auto haste on everyone, owns Movers.

Extra money for the gil cannon, nice.

Anyways I've been picking my brain for awhile on exactly how this overpowered group of ladies and men and pirate lady who dresses like a man are going to go about this. I have an embarrassment of riches here, some of which get in the way of each other.

3 Aegis Shields stop Petrification and hell, any spell one third of the time. This includes Firaga healing though.

4 Hermes Sandals (I have six or seven of them because of crazy luck) have dispel proof haste. Exdeath likes to dispel from time to time. I can however haste with the Masamune though and using these means I need to skip healing or use my flame shields.

4 Flame Shields. Putting a Flame shield on offers decent protection. I don't need the power from two handed when I can kill Neo Exdeath just fine with Gil Toss. Putting equip shield doesn't hurt the Black Mage too much as he can sit back and do great damage with spells but equip shield is also a look here, I'm now useless except for Elixir tossing on my Monk.

4 Flame Rings. The old standby here and probably the best answer for the Monk at the very least.

I think I'm going to go with the better protection and the slightly risky healing of the three Aegis Shields, 4 fire rings. I can spend all the time in the world setting up on Exdeath in the back row. Monk will get Gil Toss to help with Neo. Black Mage gets equip shield. Samurai gets Black, Knight gets Gil Toss.

Gonna place all the useful items near the top: Defender, Murakamo, Wonder Rod, Elixir, Phoenix Down, Magic Lamp. Wonder Rod is set at Arise, not bad at all.

Now for Boss Fight PART ONE!

     }

If I was insane I'd restart until I stole that second Wonder Rod. Anyways, before he hits his frenzy HP caps when he actually starts doing shit regular Exdeath is tame as a kitten. It's one of the reasons why bards are insanely good Exdeath killers; so long as you have enough HP to take an Almagest from Neo or have the offense to kill him outright you can pretty much power up so that you have eight turns for every one of his and his status spells will never hit you while you might have a chance with some of your own.

Anyways, my battle plan is this. Everyone in the back row. Black Mage heals or uses an aga spell on Exdeath. Monk throws money. Knight and Samurai give everyone protect and haste. Plan went well. Samurai ate one Flare that killed her, but I had plenty of time to reapply Haste and Protect and finish the fight before he got another turn.

Now for the main event.

My knight went, did 2.5k with a built up attack he had going against Neo. Black Mage used Magic Lamp, Bahamut did respectable damage. Samurai cast Leviathan, Monk cast Odin, killing the non heavy part. Knight did Zenigage for 3.7k, Black Mage did Slydra for decent damage. Samurai cast Carbunkle which will shut down my traditional healing for the rest of the fight. I want Golem though so there's the bricks. Shoat fails to kill the bottom section as usual. It's a long shot anyways. Almagest comes after two blocked by Golem physical hits. My Black Mage survived with 60 hp, a definite sign that I'm a wee bit overleveled/blessed. This is the one fight in the game where using HP +30% is actually quite viable on low HP units. It can mean the difference between beating Neo Exdeath in the 20's and the low 40's. Aegis Shield blocks whatever Exdeath had in store for me next, and I start Gil Tossing. An Elixir on my Knight isn't needed, but I do it anyways considering my Black Mage is now my worst damage dealer. Part one falls a bit early because of good rolls from various spells and that beginning Knight hit, the other two parts fall on the same turn. Gil Toss is, and will always be, king of Exdeath killer. You'll never see that ?? condition that wipes so many.

HNI_0006-1.jpg

My first hard mode run had Time and White Mage plus two Ninjas. I thought that was the easiest run I'd ever have. This takes the cake though. This is even easier then the time I fought him with my first FF V Advance game with every character with every Job mastered. High octane offense, amazing defense, great hit points, perfect healing most of the game. If I had an earlier save I'd love to go back and see just how low a level I could do this at with this party. I bought Phoenix Downs once in the game and barely used them.

Now this guy. His barriers wreaked havok on my party, but I eventually made it through.

Now for Shinryu. Had to shrink my Blue Mage beforehand with the Wonder Wand, which I then prepped for Berserk (outside of the Rift, of course). Then equipped Genji Shield, Black Robe, Elven Mantle and Magus Rod (she had !Black). Time Mage had Hermes Sandals, cast Quick, then Hastega and attacked Shinryu with the Wonder Wand, berserking him. Couldn't hit Blue Mage, who whittled down his HP with Firaga.

Next update will be the last update for this Fiesta for me! Kinda bittersweet, really.

It's done!
G35I9.png

A hard battle, that was. I lost once after a Grand Cross followed by Almagest, but then I remembered I didn't use the Magic Lamp even once before. Just as the battle began, I used the lamp eight times. That gave me Reflect and Golem's protection, plus two targets dead due to Odin and petrify and some free damage.
Things started to get ugly when he had only one part left, thank goodness I was trying to hit them both equally. After a lot of Elixirs, single-character-alive-with-single-digit-HP and damage dealing, he fell!

I love this game. This is the first time I finish it and I'm already waiting for next year's fiesta!

Some data:

Butz
Yoichi's Bow / Black Cowl / Mirage Vest / Hermes Sandals
Aim / Blue

Faris
Thor Hammer / Flame Shield / Crystal Helm / Crystal Armor / Hermes Sandals
Berserk / Shirahadori

Lenna
Masamune / Ice Shield / Crystal Helm / Genji Armor / Hermes Sandals
Zeninage / Rapid Fire

Krile

Blue / Animals

I remember how this goes now. Mini would tour time!

Hastega, Quick for recovery or extra damage.

Mighty Guard allowed me to survive Almagest, Quick helped me revive and throw Elixirs. Couldn't get Break to work, so I just killed the bottom part the old-fashioned way. Basically, a rather straightforward battle, never really tense, but not too easy either. Luckily, managed to keep the HP of the last 2 parts pretty even; he only got off one Meteor.

tjy7I.jpg

I played this run on my PSP except X-Death where I transferred the save to my PS3 and finished it up on there so the pics are of my TV.

Cool to see the goal was more than broken. Not sure if I'll do it again next year, though. Will have to see what I got going on at the time.

First team (GBA/Hard Mode): Black Mage, Berserker, Summoner, Berserker
Second team (PS1/Normal Mode): Black Mage, Summoner, Geomancer, Samurai

Ended up pretty easy on both runs.

I'm beginning to realize that I really dislike the section of the game between landing on world 2 and getting to Bal Castle. That's where I burned out on my second run last year, and what I just finished on my final run for this year.

My party's damage output is even more depressing than the last time, and there's no rapid fire to look forward to to make it better or instant kills to eliminate the problem entirely. At least AP won't be a problem. Grinding at Bal Castle is trivialized by a blue mage.

Second World is annoying. You end up walking almost the entire landmass before you get any better form of transportation.

It might not be quite as effective as break spellblade, but Death Claw does do a nice job of making real damage irrelevant.

Do we have until the end of this month to watch it? I got quite near the end and then just got really bored.
Sorry, I'm not sure I understand the question.

Runs not given #victory tweets with pictures by the end of August won't count towards the event's count.

Cutting it close this year again. Just got to the barrier tower, so I think I should be able to do it. Fork tower will be fun with no physical jobs though...

edit: Aha! Should have no problem with Moore's Forest here in a bit, shouldn't cut it as close as I did last year either (was late by a few hours last year :( )

So are there any questions, comments or problems? Just want to get things sorted!

Finally got (re-)done after over a months break...we were in Syldra+Air Knife... oh sorry I mean world 3. Seriously that breaks the entire thing.

It was at this point I realised I had no way of doing reasonable damage (my tactic was to break thunder rods on myself...turns out they don't work like that).
Moving on...never seen him do that...
250.png
251.png

Nice, but I don't need EXP (Odin only does that if he can break all enemies on screen...or summoned from the Magic Lamp).
Learning self destruct victory kind of backfired...

Ha take that. I have Toad (Red mage came in Handy).
I also have non-summon ways of doing damage.

!Call teachs you the funnies things. Edit: I see Cyan did the same.
Barriers were dead before they got a hit in. Yes, I'm on battle speed 1...seems the boss doesn't like the wind either.

Minryu preps.

Power staff. Check.
Mini. Check.
Invincible party member. Check. (Mini doubles evade)

What could possibl...

...right. Turns out the Red Mage is too slow to act before Shinryu on battle speed 1 (even with hermes sandles) meaning tidal wave wipes us out...but not on battle speed 2. (I could have done this with coral rings but it would just be longer, not harder, maybe also by making Krile the Red Mage as IIRC, she is the fastest).

Golem up. Mighty guard too to keep Golem up for longer. Lotsa thunderstorm later...

Yeah dear got kicked in the face. Random thing. Despite Shinryu's sprite not being on the ground, Gaia's wrath hits.

Battle speed up to 1, Back to the final boss...

Call was a stupid idea.
Last hit. I faced 2 Almagest oh and the 1 Grand cross nearly ruined us. That kind of gives an indication of how long the battle was. Lucky I didn't heave to eat any meteor as that is always where things get dangerous (plus with Syldra I was risking having 3 lots of it).

This party doesn't learn many abilities now, does it?

Ending and #victory. Random fact: Did you know the FFV ending is longer than the FFVI ending...I saw it in a two games, 1 input TAS...

Well I'm not going to be able to beat it this year on time. Still going to try to get it finished with this team eventually, but I'm way underleveled for ExDeath right now at just level 28. Probably want to be 31 or 32 before I try again since he seems to love to reverse polarity and then one shot my dudes :|

Best fight I had against him was my first fight, but that ended when I found out he likes to cast level 3 flare against my level 27, killing everyone. Oh well.

The final day. I picked up White Wind in castle Exdeath, We'll see if I can finish the thing on my way home. Kaiser knuckes are going to be ignored, so this group only needs to do World 3 up to Fork Tower.

Also, since the conditions that would cause me to hit the cap on my pledge were fulfilled a long, long time ago, I put that in already.

Gah, crap, I totally forgot about the Fiesta for weeks and am still at the Pyramid of Moore. Can I beat this in less than 3 hours? ...No, especially since I still need to cook dinner.

Oh well. I'll still see how far I can get before midnight, at least.

You have until the day ends on the international date line if memory serves. Plenty of time.

You should feel bad.

I didn't finish last year.

And it's done! Thank you very much for a successful fiesta! But all of the donations have not yet come in. The donation box will be open until September 7th. So get in your pledges, and throw in a few dollars for Child's Play if you can! We are already $499 over the 2011 total, so it has already been a great success.
Thank you all and see you next year!

(Embarrassing! I did not have time to finish my second run! The info graphic will come in a few days. We also did not hit $5000 so I don't have to play FF12 again! Sad but okay in both ways!)

Did anyone play in Japanese? I need one more victory to hit my maximum donation ($20). If you've already told me (I'm the owner of The JRPG Club) then don't worry though; I've already got you counted.

Congrats on another successful event; I had a lot of fun participating this year. Should pledge donations be made via the ChipIn widget on the FF5FJF site, or should they go directly to Child's Play?

On the site please. Either way Child's Play gets the money BUT if you go directly to Child's Play it doesn't count for the event.

Even though I never finished my second run, I still had fun playing for the first time and will be looking forward to doing this again next year.
