Final Fantasy XIV Information Thread | PC Open Beta... yeah it's not really open.

Salaadin said:
Thats a great idea actually.

If we can, just update the list with the URLS just like that as it gets quoted. That should make things easier all around.

Yeah that should work, the only thing that changes is the name at the end of the link, other then that it is the same. So Ideally all someone would have to do is copy the link, change the name at the end of it to thier name and it will work. They just have to make sure the name is right

Can you elaborate on this a bit? You can combine abilities from any job, essentially creating a custom class?
When you rank up classes you unlock abilities that can be used with any other class, each ability uses a number of allocated action points when assigned to the hotbar, the amount of action points u can use slowly goes up with each class rank.

Hmm, okay. So, let's say you have a pool of action points that equals 20; you have ranked Pugilist and Conjuror up, and for my example's sake, you have Haymaker, Shoulder Tackle, Cure, and Protect available, with each ability costing 5 action points, so you could in theory have a Pugilist with those four abilities in the hotbar- is that correct?

Got you on the other list. Id re-post it but this page is already bogged down by lists of names :lol

Doodlebugs method works just as well too. If you triple click like he says and then right click and then click "Goto URL" it should open a new tab for that page. At least it does in chrome.

I keep getting more and more emails on my phone while I'm at work of more people gifting me. I will catch up returning the favor when I get home tonight

So it's similar to the way characters in Final Fantasy 5 gain abilities permanently? If so this may be my favorite FF yet...

By the way, I think I reciprocated to everyone that gifted me. If I missed, let me know.

Bah, was hoping to wake up to some news this morning. Off on hols at the weekend, hopefully I'll still be in a position to get in when I get back.

EDIT: This isn't the DCUO thread. Oops. :p

I find out next week if I'll have the money for a new computer to get to play this on the 22nd otherwise I'll have to wait for the PS3 version. :( Which from what I heard is going to be subpar at best now due to what this game demands to run AND look good.

I should have roughly an extra $2,000-$2,500. Will that be enough to get a PC that can handle the game on THE highest settings without hiccups or am I outta luck?

Is eorzeapedia a popular site? I never heard of it. It would suck if none of us got in. At phase 3, I wish they just made it open beta.

I'm glad I used my spam email account to sign up for this. or maybe there is a way to turn off all these email beta notifications.

I notice all other FF14 fan sites are giving out beta keys so you can try them as well.

Jesus, get to the GAF PC thread before you throw all your money away for nothing. $1k+ should suffice, to say nothing of blowing $2k on a PC.

That is way more than enough money to build a rig capable of running FFXIV at max settings.

If you are going to build a high-end PC from scratch, $1500 should be the most you will need (including a monitor).

Can we please centralize the invite spamming bullshit to a single thread instead of bumping this thread every time another name is added to the list? Either do it in this thread or in the thread in the online forum but not both :| I keep expecting Beta Phase 3 info every time I come into this thread :(

Id like to keep everyone informed of the latest update since we have people quoting the wrong lists or quoting it without removing the tags thus making it unquotable for others. The one quoted 2 posts up is missing 8 or 9 names. I agree it is annoying but I also want to try and get as many gaffers as many tickets as possible so a lot of us can get into beta 3.

Besides, theres not much discussion going on in this thread aside from beta invites. The actual Beta thread actually has conversation.

I guess Ill just keep that post updated with all the current names and hope that anyone sending out tickets uses that list so all of the gaffers in need of them still get.

After numerous requests, a feature for displaying character graphics will be implemented in Beta 3.
Pictures of everyone's lovingly crafted characters will be displayed in the Character Profile pages under Home.

In response to player feedback, we are also working on displaying more game-related data, and creating community pages for groups that promote player interaction.

We look forward to your continuing cooperation and support during Beta 3.

In Beta 3, we will be adding new classes, new features such as linkshells, and a host of other adjustments and changes based on the feedback we've received thus far. The following is just a selection of what's in store for the next phase of testing.

[System-related]
- Significant adjustments to mouse controls
- Changes to the item menu display and controls for equipping gear
- The implementation of the following features:

* Linkshells
* Text commands
* Auto-complete/auto-translation dictionary
* Player macros

[Event-related]
- Local levequests will once again be available
- A sound effect and on-screen message will accompany the completion of a quest
- Completed quests will be recorded in the quest journal

[Battle-related]
- Changes to animations, effects, and combat speed
- Passive /Active mode will be toggled automatically when speaking to an NPC or locking on to a monster
- Players will be able to select either a single target or an area effect when casting spells
- Adjustments to balance guildleve rewards versus monster strength
- Various adjustments to overall battle balance

Full details will be announced in the Version Update Details section of the Beta Test Site on the day Beta 3 commences. Related updates to the manual will also be posted on the Beta Test Site.

Uhg! I want to get in on the PC release SOOO badly! I more fun and spent more time in FFXI than any other mmo, I probably played for 3+ years, and it was awesome. The best mmo ever imho. Unfortunately I don't have a gaming PC and I do have a PS3 so I think I'm going to be stuck waiting till March! :sadfase:

As September gets closer and closer, I want to stay away from this game more and more. Can't afford to get sucked in like I did with FFXI :lol :lol

ok as shallow as this might be....

i just preordered the ce and now i read that there are no summon classes and you cant use summons but they are bosses related to the story or some shit?

so basically you can NOT use summons at all? If so ill cancel immediately since the only class that attracted me was summoner...

also doesnt help that ive never played a mmo :/

No one is really sure but it has been hinted that there may be some sort of class. When and how that is achieved is unknown. But hey, XIV is great for getting to change classes at will. So play out a caster for a while and when/and/or if a summoner comes to light, lock on and fire away.

Cancel and wait for it to appear. Then wait for impressions. It took summoner a very long time to hit its stride in FFXI and the same will probably happen here.

it doesn't mean there's no summoner, EVER

summoner job (amongst many other jobs) was added into FFXI through expansions
my guess is they'll do something similar with XIV

SMN doesn't seem to be in so far (in the dats or anything I mean). I think I remember SE said something about no pet classes but that could have just been at launch. I'm a huge summoner fan too. My only 75 in FFXI and I really loved it, even when it was pretty much lolsmn for mostly everything except very specific things.
SMNs are supposed to play a part in the story from what I remember reading (but they also did in XI's story). I know for sure though that if/when SMN is put into the game then I'll immediately grab the weapon and level it up.

Summoner wasn't in FFXI until the first expansion anyway (though it was included in the US release), so Id imagine it would play out similarly.

From the FFXIV Beta Tester's Site:

First off, I would like to thank all testers for participating in phase 2 of the FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Test!

The development team sincerely appreciates all of the feedback, positive and negative, as well as all the words of encouragement from testers across the world. We endeavor ever forward with all of your voices in mind.

We are also excited about entering the third phase of beta testing! We intend to have the new content first checked by testers who participated in phase 2, and then increase the number of testers as time goes on. We are continuing to address the server load issues that many testers have brought to our attention. The official launch will be built upon a solid foundation of ongoing stress tests.

Following is a selection of what is in store for the third phase of beta testing.

–Improvements to the battle system
We overhauled the user interface and basic system for Beta 1. We will, however, continue making changes to eke the greatest possible enjoyment out of the system. Rather than explaining every detail, it’s probably better for you to experience it for yourself. Enjoy!

–Adjustments to character growth
We relayed in a previous announcement our plan to increase the merits of participating in levequests, particularly while in a party. Beginning with this phase, the amount of skill points that characters gain through levequests will be far greater than what they would gain attacking monsters on the field. Further adjustments will be made based on your feedback during Beta 3.

–Improvements to mouse controls
We’ve received plenty of feedback on mouse controls from testers who are seasoned PC gamers. Because we tried to ensure our control scheme worked across every type of device, we simply ended up providing a level of mouse control unsatisfactory to those testers. But we are happy to announce that we’ve made some major improvements to the movement and camera controls. Try them out and let us know what you think.

–Implementation of new Disciples of the Hand and Disciples of the Land classes
Now that we have ready for use all of the announced classes, we are one step closer to fulfilling all the items we promised to provide. We’ve reinstated local levequests with this phase, and with that, we hope to see an increased number of Disciples of the Hand. Some testers reported that there were not enough Disciples of the Hand testers to repair their items during Beta 2. We will keep an eye on this aspect during Beta 3 and make the proper adjustments according to your feedback.

–Implementation of linkshells
Linkshells (also known in FINAL FANTASY XIV as “companies” and similar to “guilds” found in other online games) will be implemented in Beta 3. Most FINAL FANTASY XI players will already be familiar with how linkshells work. Please test them out by inviting your friends and be sure to let us know what you think.

–Implementation of player macros and the auto-translate function
With macros, players will be able to execute multiple actions with one command, and automatically set their actions and equipment when changing classes. We understand the system still requires some tweaks, but we decided to implement the system in Beta 3 because it’s such an essential feature for testers to fully enjoy their experience.

These above are the major additions and adjustments for this version update. There are plenty more other than what I’ve pointed out, so we hope you will get a good feel for them, too.

Here’s to seeing the same great level of feedback and support during phase 3!
