Final Fantasy XV Survey
This survey is essentially a revision of the Episode Duscae survey that was put live towards the start of 2015. However, with Final Fantasy XV now in the market place for over six months, we wanted to see how opinions have potentially changed! There's also a few updated questions thrown in too for good measure.

We'll publish the results once answers start to die-down, but it should be within a few weeks of the survey's start date!

Took it. Wonder if they will find a way to share the results with SE. Chose Hiroyuki Ito for Director of FF XVI ;)

I ticked Crisis Core HD, but specified Crisis Core/Dirge of Cerberus HD collection in 'other'.

Also selected Naoki Yoshida to direct XVI.

Going into a XV thread quickly reminded me why I stopped going into them.

Ok so I started this game months ago and played up to the point when you are supposed to get on the ferry via bribe or something, so I guess before the big arc begins. My question is, how did y'all feel about the game now that it's been a while? It had overall great reviews at launch so I'm curious.

Also I'm slightly interested in Kingsglaive and getting a good understanding of the FFXV arc. Should I bother?

Yes. I personally don't think I would have understand certain things if I hadn't watched the movie first. You should also watch Brotherhood if you haven't.

I wish I didn't watch Kingsglaive before the game to be honest.

Nothing against the movie, it's fine. But the whole game is told from Noctis' point of view, for better or worse. And the events of the movie just clash with this. All depends on how willing you are to roll with the story they are giving you though

Started a fresh playthrough now that you can take the car off-road and the game is so much better for me. Not only is it fun to just drive through fields to get to hunts and areas faster but just driving on roads with more freedom when it comes to steering feels great. The way it was before made any section in the car overly restrictive and while the car is still stiff compared to other vehicles in other games it gets the job done and is improving my experience.

Also while I find the story disappointing and have some gripes with the combat I am finding myself having a lot of fun just exploring the world and questing. Obviously the game is flawed but it's still a lot of fun for me.

Also monster trucks are sick.

Why can't we drive freely with the normal Regalia in Manual Mode though!? As it's now I'd still use Chocobos mainly.

EDIT: I get that obviously the normal car would get stuck a lot more because it's lower than the truck, but maybe they could turn off collision with all shrubs and smaller rocks then to make it more comfortable regardless of whether it looked janky if you could just drive through stuff.

Do people still use Chocobos anymore?
I didn't use the car to drive anymore after 20 hours or so anyway. Only for fast-traveling and then Chocobos to get to the quest/hunt zones. If I still had something to do in the game (done all quests, hunts, and dungeons, am level 120, and unlocked the full skill tree, lol) I still wouldn't use the monster truck since it isn't as classy as the normal or Type-F Regalia and Chocobos are still more flexible and don't get stuck as much.

Depends on the terrain for me. If I can tell the area is gonna be more rocky or filled with bushes I'll hop on a chocobo. Sometimes I don't want to contend with the car getting caught in bushes it should easily crush. The Regalia also can't go into any water, not even puddles without fading out and reloading me.

No idea. You'd think it would be easy to just give the normal Regalia the same steering controls as the Type-D. As it stands I just switched to the Type-D as soon as I could in Chapter 1 and never looked back.

Yeah... I just saw that thread. :/

Anyways, put Stormblood aside to play Episode Prompto and I really love that DLC. It's so good.

And, yeah, I am replaying the game and having a ton of fun with it. It's easy to forget how much fun it is to actually play when you haven't played for a while, but when you actually sit down to play, boy is it a joy to play it.

When I started testing this game like 6 months ago, I knew some move with the basic sword where you’d see holographic swords spin around noctis as part of the move... and I remember I spammed that move a ton. Now I am finally trying to play through the campaign and can’t remember how to do that move.

You mean Armiger? L1 + R1 when the blue circle around the weapon wheel is full.

Some more impressions. I'm currently at Chapter 6 so not too deep into the story still.

  • This game is pretty. Goddamn whenever the summon shows up, it is so jawdroppingly awesome.
  • Being able to now drive the car at all times with no worries of what monsters are nearby is so darn convenient. Taking the car offroad can be really fun but not all areas are "flat" enough for this to be viable. Still though, it's not too bad.
  • That Aranea fight was fantastic. That level of aerial combat felt so much fun, and I really want to see more of that. More aerial options in general would've been great imo.
  • I've been doing it for over 15 hours now, and warping strikes are still so satisfying.
  • Iris is cute
  • Story is very boring tbh. Things are just... happening and to be frank, I'm not sure what motivation there is to give a shit about any of them on my part.
  • Poor Jared
  • The fact that the ghost lady actually photobombed Noctis was really hilarious to me for some reason.
  • The banter in this game is just wonderful. It's the reason I was interested in the game to begin with, that roadtrip feel. I don't really have a wonderful experience with some of the previous Final Fantasy games so I was really apprehensive and the bad impressions at launch made me wait. But I seem to have gotten in at the best time (Well, best until all the DLC is released).

Overall, I'm really excited to see what else this game throws me. The combat is still fun, and the exploration in general is just amazing. The open world just looks great and is really atmospheric, particularly at night when it really feels like anything can creep up on you.

EDIT: Oh God, how could I have forgotten the MUSIC. IT'S SO AMAZING.

Yeah, the music is really, really freakin' good. One of the GOATs.

So I'm in the 40s and finding the enemies in the citadel a bit difficult. What can I do to level up faster? I don't seem to be opening up new quests and these low level fetch quests suck so I kind of don't want to do them...

Also whose idea was to put in that annoying nitro boost sound when hitting the gas in off-road regalia? -_-

Femto Jiokichi, who translated a lot of Japanese ATR/events in the last years, translated the Q&A from the recent fan event where all that early storyboard/concept art was shown:

http://femto-jiokichi.tumblr.com/post/162590355208/jp2en-new-infomation-released-at-a-fan-event-on

Some answers:

  • Q: Too bad that the latter half of the game is so rushing. And I felt that the story or setting weren’t well explained, and we have to gather information from other places (or universe) to understand what’s going on. Those who love to swing by some places could enjoy the game, but I would hesitate to recommend this game for people who just enjoy the story.

A: (There were lots of off the record tips, but points are) We know people point out these things, and as the dev team we take this seriously even before the release date. This has been the biggest issue for the team. There are lots of things that we couldn’t put into the game even though we wanted to.
It would have been better if we could put these things in the main story, but there were only so much we could do. We will strengthen the parts that have been left out via updates and DLCs, and we would appreciate it if you could play along for long. However, it takes time and money to develop, and we put priority on the things with strong demand.
  • Q: When compared to Episode Prompto, Episode Gladio can’t stand a chance when it comes to the volume of the episode. I feel really sorry for Gladio.
A: Among the DLC episodes that had been decided to be released after the game is released, the team picked up Episode Gladio for the first release. Episode Gladio got the shortest developing time period, the team hasn’t got used to working on the system and all, and the team focused on speedy gameplay. Hence the lack in volume compared to Episode Prompto.
  • Episode Ignis will deliver the story of Ignis, of course, and the core of the main story. The dev team has been working on it pushing their limit. It’s still under development but the story made me cry, said Tabby.
  • To Ravus, the empire is just an ally and he can’t count on Lucis (possibly because he has grudge and complicated feelings toward the kingdom). He can’t be an oracle because it is for women only. He has been fighting all alone. Please look forward to his story.
  • The dev team has been creating something for an anniversary of Kingsglaive. The detail could be released on Twitter sometime around July 9, so please wait a bit more. (The tweeter saw the “something” and s/he was impressed.)

How deep into side quests and hunts and such did yall go? Did you try and go pick up and complete most side Quests? Or most hunts?

How deep do you think I should go to get engaged with the good content? I don’t want to miss good stuff but I don’t want to do 25 hunts only to discover there’s no fulfilling result or story tied to it. Same with some of these fetch side quests like getting ingredients or dog tags. Are they worthwhile or can I skip that? I want to get lots out of the main characters but so far that seems to come as you progress through the main story so should I just stick to that or will I be missing out?

Well, I honestly was addicted to doing hunts, lol, even though I probably spent most of the time in loading screens because of the baffling decision that you're only allowed to accept one hunt at a time, making you fast-travel to your hunt and then back to the hunt quest giver to do another one again and again. I've done every hunt and sidequest, am level 120, and maxed out every AP skill node. Don't ask me why, haha - I never do this in games, but somehow FFXV made me come back months later and want to grind out everything for hours (listened to tons of podcasts during it).

Anway, you won't get any extra story through hunts and most of the quests are simple fetch-quests with very minimal world-building outside of a few. Not worthwile if you don't want to do it for completionist reasons. Just do what you enjoy. Explore the world, search for all the dungeons. That was the most fun part for me and honestly gave me the Zelda feeling, heh. Post-game get the flying car upgrade and go to the secret Pitioss dungeon. It's very... special :D

Very cool. I hope they still do a director's cut and better align the story with the game. Especially Luna :(
