Forget about physics - the official Dissidia Final Fantasy thread

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
I'm glad everyone is liking the game. I put a lot of hours into the Japanese version when it first hit. My main character started as Squall, but I started playing a lot of Gabranth, who, while incredibly hard to use at first, is a total blast once you figure him out.

I'm pretty sure that's the case, though I can't say I've tested it specifically.
I'm thinking it is too because if that wasn't the case the game would have some specific way of attaching the base effects to the bonuses while equipping. I'll experiment a little with this later.

Agreed. I don't think there's any question that a sequel will come eventually (come on, western sales!) but it'll be interesting to see what approach they take with it to make it different from the first.

Seriously, can someone post all they know about getting rosetta stones? I've been playing for 20 hours and I only got about 10 of them, there's no good info on them on the entire internets so I humbly turn to GAF for assistance.

Only thing I'd like to see out of a sequal is more environment interactivity ala Power Stone but everything else is gold. I don't play too many technical fighters anymore so this is right up my ally.

Any quick help on how to find games for the US version on adhoc party?

I tried it yesterday, and after finding a room ( but not knowing for sure if it was for us dissidia), on my PSP all i saw was my profile card with my info... what is the correct process?

Besides the stage bonus apparently you can also get it by trade further in the game at the shop. According to this wiki, you can exchange 1 Wind Stone + 1 Water Stone + 1 Life Stone for it, all obtainable at the Colosseum.

Beat Kefka... Now Kuja is kicking my ass. I suck at fighting games, seriously. We start out at almost even Brave, and then within a few seconds he has almost 1000+. Needless to say, I can't even take him out with an EX attack... Bah.

This game is in dire need of infrastructure mode... is there anyway to play adhoc over a network? I have CFW if that makes a difference. I mean, what are the odds of me getting a single friend card if I leave my psp in sleep and go through the mall for 2 hours tomorrow. I'd say about 5%. Actually, this gives me a fun idea where I'll go to malls and gamestops for an entire day to see if I can get even a single friend card. Still, I imagine it to be highly unlikely.

Dammit, I downloaded the demo this morning, and now I'm gonna buy the game today after work. The demo was SO MUCH FUN, but now I'm gonna be broke!

Really enjoying this game so far. The RPG elements are what have hooked me. Customizing fighters, buying equipment, venturing off the beaten path for a treasure chest.. It's all done so well (and perfect for the commute to and from work).

My one complaint thus far... is the lack of female FF heroines as playable characters. It's a damn sausage fest up in here. Where is Rosa, or Celes or Quistis (I'll even settle for Maria)? Sigh. I guess this is what sequels are for.

It was only supposed to be protagonists and main villains(the last boss in an FF isn't always the main villain mind you).

Yeah, but the FF guys look like girls if you squint...or if you don't!

:crickets chirp:

Thank you, I'll be here all week!

So who's up for some Dissidia II talk? :lol

I would like to see special 'assist' moves from characters not playable- kind of like in MvC2. It would be a great way to throw in a shit load of FF favorites without having to make 75 playable characters. :lol

They could make them like the summons- where certain specifications on the battlefield must be met. Or you could just collect some kind of 'help' points and use a certain amount at will per battle.

It would be cool to have, for example, a special move for Squall that would have some double-slash tag-team from Seifer as an assist; or Cloud sending coordinates for Cid to drops some bombs from the Highwind/Shera/whatever on an opponent. :D

Awesome idea, assists is one of the reasons I play KOF 2000, I love that so many people from KOFs past are there even if only in a small role. I think that would translate well for Dissidia.

Quick Dissidia 2 dreams. I would like for them to have each game featured with 2 heroes by chance. Thinking of whom to add from FFXII is a fire storm in itself and I best not stir up that bee hive....until later :lol

Glad everyone is enjoying it! I'm glad this come out right when Fall started its the perfect commute time killer. O.K for the win as always

Balthier is the correct (and only) answer. FACT. As for the other games...

FF1-3: Haven't played
FFIV: Too many choices. Rosa, Kain, or Rydia are all possibilities. More females are definitely preferable.
FFV: Haven't played
FFVI: Locke or Celes, definitely. Celes as an anti-mage character would work great, while Locke is ridiculously awesome and couldn't hurt.
FFVII: Tifa. The only good character that's an option (Turks, sadly, aren't eligible)
FFVIII: Rinoa. I'd like Irving, but Balthier already fills the role of gunman and leading man.
FFIX: Beatrix would actually be pretty sweet, but if it has to be a main party member, maybe Freya if Kain doesn't make it in, for some Dragoon representation?
FFX: Auron. Because he's Auron.
FFXI: Shantotto's already in, so I don't care.
FFXII: Balthierrrrrrrrrrrr.

Brilliant, awesome idea. I'd love to have Vivi drop in with some black magic action or Faris cruise by firing cannon balls from a pirate ship.

Quite enjoying this now I've wrapped my head around the Bravery/HP concept of "whose got the bravest dick" contests :lol

Some of the stage areas are great such as Lunar Subterrane, The Rift, Planet's Core and Dreams End but then some clown decided putting ceilings into levels like Pandemonium and Ultimecia's Castle was a great idea. It wasn't, it breaks the game and it's camera and makes them very frustrating to play.

Think I've settled on Squall as my merchant of death with his combo's, and playing Quick Battle on Lunar Subterrane and knocking opponents through the canyons and them crumbling almost sates my appetite for a Otogi Versus game!

Also the "far higher" Lvl pieces tucked away in Story Mode are giving me serious game rage. As if I'd dodge them and only tackle them on a 2nd run through. I WILL CHALLENGE AND WIN AFTER SEVERAL RETRY PENALTIES.

So far none of those challenge pieces has managed to best me in the end. Some sure put up quite the fights, though.

Basch, only because he makes the most sense and it's harder to imagine Baltheir flying around(plus it's weird to have a moveset for guns).

Of course since Final Fantasy is only the subtitle, there's a chance for another series to be used.

Basch is awesome, but
his brother is already in.
Though if you want to be honest, FFXII deserves just as much representation as the other games, and thus needs two heroes for the next game. There you go! Basch and Balthier both get in.

EDIT: I love Dissidia's video export function. Here's a video of me fighting a challenge battle against a high-level Tidus. I make a really stupid move that almost gets me killed, but I recover and just barely manage to kill him with an EX Burst.

Basch's primary weapon(I.E. the one used in Revenant Wings) is a broadsword, you-know-who uses a weapon similar to Zidane.

Also: Why didn't you do a cinematic replay? Your video needs moar camera angle changes.

Awesome fight though(DOWN WITH TIDUS!).

Aww, I don't mind Tidus, he's just one that I remembered to actually save the replay again. I wish I had the fights I had with super-Jecht, those were amazingly close.

I don't have time to edit videos when there's Dissidia to be played, man! :D

Ah lame, the screenshot function in Camera Edit mode always overlays all the HUD stuff so any fancy pic I try to take has like 20 different sets of numbers all overlaying it :lol

Unless you can switch that off?

That sucks, I just found that out for myself. I can't find any way to toggle the HUD, but if you can't turn it off it makes all of these pretty pics useless.

EDIT: You just gotta hit square when the replay starts to remove the HUD, then you can take pics without it. Sweet.

Basch
is already in Dissidia, if you go by the voice actor and by FFXII's ending

Plus, the quickenings. Way too much of a coinkydinky if you ask me.

They're all red though, Basch's quickenings were green(not counting the last one).

Plus Basch isn't the type to give a crap about a scar, so I doubt he'd try to get it removed. Not to mention his dialogue sounds like nothing Basch would say, and
Gabranth siding with Chaos makes way more sense.

Okay, I see:

1) White stuff coming from the general direction of Garland's crotch.
2) The white stuff flowing towards an under-aged boy.

Didn't think Garland was a Pedo Bear. :/

For the sake of
Lord Larsa I would presume he'd give a crap about the scar, in case anybody had seen Noah helmetless before. Plus, the insinuation is that Gabranth isn't really with Chaos, just like yet.

I hadn't noticed the colours, however. This is all speculation natch.

Gabranth
is a case similar to Golbez and Ject, in that they're anti-Heros. He is also seen attacking
Shanattoto
(the hell do you spell this?) in order to get to Cosmos.

Plus I doubt people would care if
Noah suddenly had a scar, he's basically a soldier and could say he got it in battle.

Oh wow, with the inclusion of this photo mode the game really is just pure Final Fantasy porn :D

Lunar Subterrane is my favourite map by far just due to how gorgeous it is and the opportunities for canyon smashing. Exdeath is my current favoured punching bag, that dumb ol' teleporting bastard!

Down you go.

An enjoyable game with lots of content. Moronic storyline though, and with some surprising load time issues (despite 500+ mb install) making the "skip cutscene" selection take too long to get to...

Fun to play anyway. Went through story mode a few times with Cloud (chosen simply because 1* diff so as to get used to it) then Bartz (a 4*). Bartz I look to as the main right now, but who knows which one I might stick with since they all play differently enough. Such as when starting as Firion and having to readjust to his long-range charge HP shots that he starts with.

What I really like is the "strategy" grid and how it both staggers item availability through multiple play-throughs but also often leaves one with a difficult choice. For instance, was able to choose just now between a recently unlocked Rare Item box or ending the stage with 6 points to get an Ice Lance. For those who don't have the game as yet, moving to the box first would have cost me an additional movement point and denied me the Lance as a bonus. So I chose to get the Rare Item next time.

^ Great pics! Just finished with Cloud, too bad I still need to finish another story to unlock save replay.

...Shade Impulse being unlocked after a single Destiny Odyssey completed is just so the game can laugh at my face, isn't it? :lol Haven't even tried it since it's supposed to be the final battle.

I don't think they're ever locked. You just have to hit "L" when you're on the character customization screen, I believe.

EDIT: it's under "Battle Tips"

Heroes

FFI: One of the other WOL, maybe a female.
FFII: This one is a bit tough since the other characters were all meh. Maria, Leon, Mindu.
FFIII: Hmmmm. Ingus maybe?
FFIV: Edge, Kain, Rydia, Polom and Porom (maybe controlled at the same time?) and Tellah.
FFV: Galuf, Faris, Xezat.
FFVI: Celes, Locke, Shadow, Mog.
FFVII: Tifa, Cait Sith, Aerith.
FFVIII: Rhinoa, Quistis, Zell, Laguna.
FFXI: Beatrix, Vivi, Dagger.
FFX: Lulu, Wakka, Riku, Auron.
FFXI: ???
FFXII: Balthier, Basch, Fran.

Villains

The antagonists are a bit tougher since there only tends to be one major villain in each game, any others added would be mostly "minor".

FFI: Maybe one of the Four Fiends?
FFII: The Light Emperor, Emperor (Demonic), Dark Knight
FFIII: Xande
FFIV: Zemus, Zeromus.
FFV: Enuo, GILGAMESH!!!
FFVI: Gesthal, Ultros
FFVII: Rufus, Hojo, Genesis, Jenova.
FFVIII: Edea, Adel.
FFIX: Garland, Necron.
FFX:Sin, Seymour.
FFXI: ???
FFXII: Vayne, Cid, Other Judges.

Hmmmm.

Dissidia II - Can't wait!!!

Nah, I like him too. He's such a cheerful goofball. I like most of the FF leads. It seemed odd at first to hear the older ones talking, but it gives them some added personality.

Chilly, your list is good, but add Auron! Best ass-kicker of the series :D

Something tells me that if the fans made Dissidia II, every FF character EVER would find their way in :lol
