I'm sorry but somehow I couldn't find Sekiro, Resident Evil 2 remake or even Ace Combat 7 on epics shop. We must be talking about different Shops because Epics store has exactly 0 indefinite exusives and only timed exclusives and if we take metro as a example, they seem to sell not that well on it, or in Devision 2s case, not even a exclusive game on their list. We all know where people buy Devision and that's most certainly 95% on uPlay.

What exactly is epic 'fixing for the gamers'? Maybe fixing things for developers so that they get a bit more profits until Epic has a huge marketshare and they start ramping up their royalties.

Indeed I'm curious to know what the advantages are. Perhaps one of the the many EGS advocates here can explain the gain for the consumer.

I would laugh if this came true, but instead of moving to the Epic Store, people just got consoles instead. =p

Yeah, move to a closed box eco system where only one company has monopoly. You gotta pay for the service aswell. I think people want to stay away from that.
A console is just low end pc hardware with limited software, only one 'launcher' like PSN/store. No different there where exclusives are only on that platform, to get people there, lile Epic does atm.

Epic exclusives aren't sustainable. They're burning through cash to get people into the store, but they won't be able to keep it up forever. And the funny thing is that if they manage to loosen the stronghold Valve has on digital market then it will lead to every publisher getting their own store, not selling their games on Epic, because Epic's 12% is still a lot compared to 0% from your own store. Once Epic stops being heaps of cash for exclusives they will stop coming.

Nothing is 0%, if you make your own store you have to pay for the hosting, software, infrastructure, electricity, staff to run in and code for it. It’s MORE costly to build your own store upfront. I wouldn’t be surprised if that 12% is about close to what UPlay probably cost UBI to keep up and running

Valve is a poorly-run company and probably not a "fun" company to work for. They bragged about "desks with wheels" yet haven't been able to produce any games. Instead, they've produced a lot of good innovation in the PC storefront space. Programs like Greenlight/Early Access were ahead of their time. Steam was the first platform outside of Xbox Live to implement achievements. Controller customization and the Steam controller itself are amazing efforts that deserve more praise. Big Picture Mode and Steam OS were also important gambles for the storefront. Then of course there's the chatting, forum, and recording stuff built into Steam.

I am no longer a PC gamer. Personally, I haven't logged into my ~300-game Steam account in over 2 years. So I have no dog in this fight.

PC gamers are a privileged bunch and they are slurping up artificial controversy. If Steam really becomes what this disgruntled employee claims, people will be shrieking and lamenting "the good ol days" of Steam.

Is this a joke? Epic store's number of games LITERALLY is in two digits and you think steam is the one that doesn't have games?

Bruh you should try out at the Comedy Store. There's a promising career in stand-up waiting for you.

LOL if only

Do you play all games at the same time ? Does that mean google app store is better store because it has more games ?
The point here is that features doesn't matter when your favorite games are not in the store.

You can't play "cloud saves"
Neither you can play "friends list"

If i am fan of Metro, it doesn't matter what Steam features give me since there is no Metro on Steam.
If i am fan of GTA6 it doesn't matter what kind of community Steam has if it will be released only on Rockstar Store.

People play games not features. Which is why Epic will carve out part of marketshare despite all nayseyers and outrage.

"[...] being backed up by people who hate the freedom that Steam offers [...]" - my post

I don't know who is pushing or being part of a narrative here, considering your long effort in the various Epic Store threads, as well as you ridiculing a fair criticism and think you've somehow bypassed it:

Do you actually believe people "hate the freedom that Steam offers" or not you clown?

So your argument that epic will do fine is "but I like metro" and that's it? I even gave you examples of critically acclaimed games that have a healthy size in term of player base that didn't release on epic and you chose to ignore it. If like you say games sell platforms, whom does epic win over with Metro and whom does steam win over with nearly ever other triple A game like, in my previous example, Sekiro, RE2, Ace Combat etc. You chose a point and your favorite store can't even compete in that one singular battle. Also, all your epic exclusives like metro do release on Steam and I know of a few metro fans who will gladly wait that 1 year with no issue and guess what, still play it on Steam. So please elaborate how epic wins by having 1 or 2 games for themselves for a limited time while steam literally gets every other game.

Did you not understand the post? I'll spell it out to you. This is what my quote said: "being backed up by people who hate the freedom that Steam offers "
Let's break it down:
[being backed up by] = supported by
[people] = some people
[people who hate the freedom that Steam offers] = some people that dislike the freedom that Steam offers]
[freedom that Steam offers]=lack of restrictions in your use of the store offered by Steam (and the features they allow for that matter)

This does not mean: 1. people supporting Epic hates freedom or 2. that all people supporting Epic hate the freedom that Steam offers.
Nor was that a subject of it, considering it was said in the context of why I don't like the push from Epic, if you saw the rest of the sentence..

You can use the exact same argument to argue in favor of Steam, only instead of being limited to two games (one of which doesn't even exist yet) you have hundreds of critically acclaimed titles to choose from.

If Steam not having those two games is enough to prove that Steam has "no games", then what the hell does that say about the Epic Store, which has less than 1% of Steam's library, even if you only count successful AAA titles?

Yes that is it.
Why some games i don't (some gamer, doesn't mean me) care about is a point ?
IF games i like are not on Steam then any feature Steam has doesn't matter. Simple as that.

And it is, no one said it isn't.
My point here is that you don't play all games at the same time.

You pick and choose games to buy and if game isn't on steam then it doesn't matter what features it has.
If Epic has 10000 features it doesn't mean anything if i can't buy GTA3 from it which i want to play now.

Fortnite reportedly made $3 billion in 2018.

They can keep it up for quite a long time.

Steam racked up even more money over time from all sales at their cut so they can play that too if they don't like arrangement. Free market.

They'd stand a better chance if they made a Store that could match Steam on features. Coming out with a Client that is as barebones as they did seems like a huge oversight.
It takes time to build in all of those features and they probably didn't want to wait that long while they have all that fornite cash.

Pretty sure Metro is still coming to Steam, along with every other game Epic have made deals with. Where there's a market, there's money, and regardless of however much huffing and puffing Tim Sweeney does, the Steam Market isn't actually going anywhere and it's substantial.

If i am fan of GTA6 it doesn't matter what kind of community Steam has if it will be released only on Rockstar Store.

That's a mighty big if you've got going on there.

Tim's admitted himself that the exclusives won't last, so unless in between now and then EGS turns into a powerhouse of must have it's up in the air whether the store will retain any actual consumer stickiness in the long term. Despite making some 12-month exclusivity deals, it's noteworthy that the exclusivity window on Borderlands 3 was just 6 months. I can't envisage Epic will be signing up any more AAA games for 12 months versus 6, because from a publisher perspective, why tie yourself into what could turn out to be a bum deal?

It takes time to build in all of those features and they probably didn't want to wait that long while they have all that Fornite cash.

With that much money, they should be able to afford an army of coders to throw at the problem.

Wow cool thanks for the giant watermarked stock image, the perfect end to the rest of your illiterate babbling. Do you actually think there is anyone here on planet Earth who "hates the freedom that Steam offers". Seriously this is super simple. Yes or no? These are you own damn words take some responsibility for the stupid shit you're saying. If the answer is no then say that.

Freedom hater, here. I despise that Steam is so empowering for gamers, who simply are not prepared for the cornucopia of liberty and unfettered access to sweet, delicious content. This freedom is too much, bring me my chains. I'm a real person, fyi.

Yes, you'd have a hard time convincing anyone that the answer to this isn't yes. A single person is enough to falsify the claim of "No one on Earth hates the freedom that Steam offers". I see you're rowing along and I'm excited to see where this leads.

No, the google app store isn't better because it mostly has shit games. Steam has both quantity and quality, plus the features and the lack of utter contempt for the customers allowing them to review games and talk with each other in the forums.

It is the one and same guy Richard Geldrich or whatever. He has a super axe to grind against Valve, this is nothing new for him.

Okay lol good argument. If at least one person on planet Earth hates freedom then yep, good job. Although remember your specific claim is that "the people backing Epic"--what I guess we have to characterize as the anti-freedom cabal--"hate the freedom that Steam offers". Not that I'm losing faith in the persuasive power of GIS but maybe there's an argument here that doesn't trade in bizarre characterizations of "somebody, somewhere" and even takes the admittedly extreme step of addressing the actual criticisms of Steam that are like, super obvious and widely available to anybody who can read?

No way. Devs have been selling games directly for good decade before Steam came and they still do it outside Steam. And uPlay? 12% is completely ridiculous number. There's no way it costs more than 1-2% . Epic said the costs of running the actual store is 2%.

You defined it as an absolute and forced me to answer, so it's not actually much of an argument as it is logic.
Again you're strawmanning as well in regards to the underlined and you're appealing to ridicule as well.

My specific claim was that:
"This push coming from Epic is not something I condone. Buying exclusives, worse features, being backed up by people who hate the freedom that Steam offers and that makes it harder to try to control products available to all. "

I display my displeasure in the push from Epic, putting forward buying exclusive, terrible features and the push that was driven by people who do not feel the consumer should have the freedoms in storefronts.
Again, it talks about some people who hate the freedom given to the consumer by the Steam store, whom are backing this push.

And now you're starting with a digression at the end. Then somehow whining that I'm not taking the arguments that I'm not presented, like I'm supposed to let you lazily claim that they are there and at implying that I'm supposed to search for them. But who cares? Was it even the subject of the quote? Nope. Because I stated my opinion in regards to why I didn't like the push.

What now, good sir?
