Forza now has 4 million MAU, Forza Horizon 3 sold 2.5 million copies

Forza 3 was the highest selling at about 5.5 million while Forza 5 was about 2.5 million and Forza 6 was under 2 million so the trend seems to be going down. While the Horizon games seem to be around the 2-2.5 million mark.

Forza Horizon 3 is not done selling yet.
When did Forza Motorsport 3 reach 5.5 million? can you give me a source on that?

Forza Motorsport 3 sold 2 million in its fist 4 months

Forza Horizon 3 is my first Forza game and is maybe the most fun I've ever had with a racing game (Mario Kart included). I'm so glad the series came to PC. After the early technical issues, the PC version now looks and plays amazing.

FH3 has been charting to close to a year. 2.5M was 4-5 months ago. It's well over 3M now and still going strong. Not too mention how many Hot Wheels DLC's did it sell?

Yeah, the person earlier in the thread who said "best racing game ever" has a good argument. Hard to find any game with as much content and variety...and it's a blast to do everything from cruise to race.

I question whether someone has played it if they don't put it in the conversation as a serious contender.

That's the key for me. Sometimes I want to go into the game and just drive around. I still haven't completed all the challenges so if I end up seeing one of those XP boards I'll go for it. As long as someone isn't going in with expectations of a pure sim racer, I can't see how this isn't one of the most enjoyable games of the past couple years.

Hope they do a Forza Horizon 3 GOTY edition with both expansions and car releases for 60 bucks in september. Probably will sell also.

4 Million active users a month? That sounds insanely big!

Congrats T10/Playground.

FH3, best racing game ever IMO.

as said, that is up 1 million (or 33.3%) over mid 2016
all about the MAU growth
In March as well, before we got the hot wheels expansion.

I say god damn.

In terms of revenue, if 0.02% of those players put in a single dollar, that's 80k in revenue.

Racing games are dead guys, pack it up.

How is it that we practically get one Forza every year (with alternating sub series every other year from different studios) and we can't get a single Gran Turismo on PS4?

GT3 and GT5 are the best selling Sony exclusive games in their respective consoles. We're in year #4. You'd think we would've gotten one by now. Either Microsoft is doing something very right or Sony Japan/Polyphony are doing something very very wrong.

Last gen I was all about the Need for Speed games, this gen Forza Horizon has done a flying upper cut to NFS to knock them from my top spot. FH3 is incredible. EA is going to have to work hard to reclaim the arcade racing crown.

Content. One GT has more content than 2 FM.

I've been trying to play a few other games over the last week and failing miserably and I keep going back to FH3.

Not only is it probably my favourite racer ever but the Hot Wheels expansion is like digitised crack, just an incredible all round package.

Congrats to Turn 10 and Playground, what a truly beautiful partnership this has become.

different business models and development cycles
Forza development is probably one of the most efficient in the whole industry

you will get your GT game this year ;)

I have always liked racing games since I was a nipper and have played most of them, the first Gran Turismo was a game changer, I still have my copy and it still has the rubber smell that was embedded in the disc, the second game was also good, but when the first Forza games was released It was something different and then again with Horizon, Gran Turismo 5 compounded my view on this, as it was dire on release.

Some how the Forza Motorsport and Horizon games have got better and better.

FH3 should be like 5M now since it's gone on sale quite a few times, DLC came out and was bundled with the console. Pretty good numbers and well deserved, game is fantastic

I hope people don't pass on Forza Horizon 3 out of loyalty to other racing franchises, or because it's an Xbox/Win10 game. I don't say this lightly, it's a masterpiece, and plays like an open love letter to arcade racing fans and car collecting enthusiasts. It's that good.

It's clear the developers put player fun as their #1 priority for FH3. You get rewarded for pretty much everything you do in the game, even driving like a maniac plowing through people's front yards and trashcans.

While the game does make my GPU fan work harder than normal (980gtx), it runs well with uncapped framerate.

Man this MAU thing feels like meme. Its almost like they are shamed by series performance coming of X360 and by putting and combining all series and platforms and people who played 5 min trying to grow number like a big thing.

Almost.

i mean, they gave sales numbers along with MAU...

4 million people playing your franchise within the last month is nothing to scoff at.

Almost.

I think it's more that the whole industry is conscious of how important capitalizing on a service model is, compared to the older (and fading) single-purchase, one-and-done system for bigger projects. If you're actually following software publishing (and not just the lens of a particular videogame platform's communications), you see MAU used as a/the standard for showing performance. This changeover totally corresponded with Microsoft going from industry-lead to where they are now, but looking at the industry (and Microsoft's broader annual report structure) shows that change is anything but some desperate attempt to "hide" the performance of one division.

I never played a GT but I find that very hard to believe.

GT6: A total of 41 tracks (featuring 86 distinct layouts) are currently available (discounting the Moon).
http://gran-turismo.wikia.com/wiki/Gran_Turismo_6#Tracks
GT6 includes 1245 cars.
http://gran-turismo.wikia.com/wiki/Gran_Turismo_6#Car_List

FM5: 15 tracks
http://forza.wikia.com/wiki/Forza_Motorsport_5/Track_List
All 218 cars currently in the game.
http://www.ign.com/wikis/forza-5/Cars

FM6: 26 tracks
http://www.ign.com/wikis/forza-6/Tracks
All known cars that will appear in Forza Motorsport 6. There are a total of 460 available cars at launch plus DLC.
http://www.ign.com/wikis/forza-6/Cars

And then GT has things like rally, snow, nascar, b-spec, go-karts and others out of the box.
Rally expansion for FH? DLC.
Snow for FH3? DLC.
Nascar for FM6? DLC.

People in here can easily check leaderboards, right?
Sure but people playing the demo, buying the game second hand, borrowing from someone or another user from the same copy also appear there.

Most of GT's cars are old PS2 style cars I believe. Also what has your post got to do with the success and quality of FH3?

?

Guy asked why a GT game takes longer to make than a FM game. And the number of employees in PD is 1/3 of that from T10. Expecting them to release the same amount of games is unrealistic.

4 million MAU ... for the entire series on two platforms (XBO, PC) Am I reading that right?

Yes.

4million people who have bought Forza games played one of those games last month. That's actually really impressive.

Now pull out every single recycled asset and compare it to new assets built on new engines for FM. "Premium" car counts for example vs all of FM cars being high-poly..just for kicks.

Also, for kicks...the Forza Horizon games have like 500 tracks.....LOL...I mean...if we want to really break it down.

Seriously though, do you expect Sport to have twice the stuff of FM7 and FH3? I'd love your thoughts on that. I've moved on to the PS4, like most.

Motorsport and Horizon are two completely different games. Hope you know that :p

Liking Horizon doesn't mean you will like Motorsport.

I know I know. I played a bit of Forza 6 Apex which is a free PC version.

I mean you can even drive on the Top Gear track!

Agreed, it is very impressive. I just wanted to make sure I knew what that number was referring to.

we know GT Sports won't have the content of a regular GT
