Doesn't Lauren Wainwright post here? Should we not be supporting fellow gaffers?
If a person fucks up and directly affects other then people can call him/her on /him/her bullshit. Theres no hive mind in Neogaf, we are no gaming journalists.

Not really, but this situation cost a man his job for no good reason.Whilst we're all disappointed, we have to ask ourselves this: did gaming 'journalism' ever have much credibility in the first place?

For someone just stepping into the thread, is there a rundown of what went down?
I have a lot of respect for rab Florence and john walker right now. Gaming journalism is in desperate need of a wake up call.
They need to understand what they are doing and the power they hold. People spending their hard earned money on a terrible game is pretty bad.

Not to mention the influence that reviews have on actual game development.I have a lot of respect for rab Florence and john walker right now. Gaming journalism is in desperate need of a wake up call.

Metacritic changed everything. Not to mention the influence that reviews have on actual game development.

I'll do a short recap:
- Keighley surrounded by doritos followed by gaming bloggers retweeting a hashtag for advertising to win a PS3 makes Florence of Eurogamer curious.
- Florence writes an article saying how things are shady and some sound like straight up PR e.g. Wainright orgasms for everything Squenix.
- Eurogamer/Wainwright send libel threats to Eurogamer, at which the article was edited to remove mentioning of Wainright.
- Wainwright responds in twitter "Apology accepted" and something in the vain of applying her law classes to use.
- Florence either steps down or is forced to resign to avoid any libel threat.
- Both sides deny any threat or are not talking about it directly, but twitter posts hint that such threat existed. Florence is not confirming or denying whether he was fired or he stepped down.
- "GAF and 4chan combine forces to see this standalone complex issue" alongside digital protest from Penny Arcade and more, showing what happened.
- Wainwright's profile shows she is a freelancer for Square Enix. She admitted it and denied doing any reviews for Square Enix or shilling (she is wrong. She reviewed Deus Ex, Tomb Raider and did countless previews).
- All this fiasco is too much for her and she privatize her twitter account. Next thing you know, she starts deleting tweets, videos and articles, and edits her profile to remove any mention of Square Enix freelancing.
- People find some comments of her thanking someone called Korina that used to work at Ubisoft.
- Korina Abbot used to work at Ubisoft and is currently the marketing executive at...Square-Enix.
- David Jaffe offers Keighley Mountain Dew.
- Gaming journalism.

CheersWell, we also kicked Tony.
Yep, and with bonuses being tied to metacritic scores, developers have quite the incentives to influence reviewers. Not to mention the influence that reviews have on actual game development.
I doubt she does. GAF gives no free games. She might start doing it once Dudebro hits tho...Doesn't Lauren Wainwright post here? Should we not be supporting fellow gaffers?
Careful when talking directly - don't you know who represents her?Hey, Lauren! If you're reading, I'll start defending you in my posts for some of that Square Enix cash. Unless you think that's PreMature...
She even recommended LC:GoL on steamHaha not a good idea to have open comments on your steam profile. http://steamcommunity.com/id/atheistium

Just hope this doesn't fall back on them ;-)
atheistium On Tomb Raider getting SE cutscenes said::O
Reminds me of being a kid again I missed when the Tomb Raiders did this!
atheistium when looking at some preview said:You should! I'm tempted to bust out my PS1 copies and play through them all
atheistium doing the thing she doesnt quite does best said:I think we all need to remember that Tomb Raider and Uncharted are two very different games.
Both are fantastic but not alike. I've never found that the case anyway... I found Uncharted maybe a little too scripted. Good game but certainly linear. I think the newer Tomb Raiders have been good and Underworld didn't really get given a chance.
Until we see the 30:00min demo there isn't much I can say apart from the concept art or screenshots (not to sure if they are screens or art yet) look great and that I'm excited for this game.
Ouch. She should have covered her bases at the same time she made here twitter private.
Developers are not the issue.Cheers

Didn't want to imply that. It's rather those publisher who offer a bonus for 90+ metacritic score in the first place.Developers are not the issue.
Yes she should have. However some of the comments on it are really uncalled for.
-- I can be too, for the right price. To be honest, she could just sincerely be a massive fan of the series.
Yeah, seems like it. To say that her gaf posts are viral marketing seems like a big stretch as wellTo be honest, she could just sincerely be a massive fan of the series.
Shagg's recap, with some updates.
To be honest, she could just sincerely be a massive fan of the series. Nothing thats been discovered is conclusive and open to interpretation. Personally, I do not believe she was promoting anything on behalf of SE. Some of you are stretching this irrationally and its annoying
Tomb Raider :lol
All the PS1 versions, all the Dreamcast versions, all the 360 versions, all the PS2 versions, all the PC versions.
/facepalm
You're on the internet, you're gonna get insulted. This shouldn't be new to anyone.Who can fault Rob Florence for not naming names? Look at that Steam profile and that's just the surface.
I mean it absolutely sucks that Lauren deceived the readers of the various publications but the Internet has no filter and now she is threatened and harassed on every platform.
I sincerely hope that the mods on this forum monitor her inbox on here for any private messages being sent to her and ban the people that send her vile comments.
Don't get me wrong, I think she absolutely deserves the backlash she is getting but there are two issues:
- Vile personal insults; I don't think these are ever justified. Laying out the facts is more more damaging and doesn't muddy the waters.
- The focus shifting from shady games journalism being buddies with the people they are supposed to be critiquing and informing customers of to "Lauren fucked up"
Both of these examples are BULLSHIT. And have been purposely misconstrued for ages by specific groups of people to label these guys as Microsoft fanboys. How long ago are we talking? Because I remember this shit:
And didn't that Shane guy go on to become a Sony PR shill or something?
He did reply to it.Too bad Aegies never replied to this comment.
I'm not buying the "it doesn't work and we hate it"-talk. Not even coming from someone like Jeff Gerstmann (whom I love to listen to).

Everything's definitely fishy, but it seems like she's always been a TR fan.
