GameStop: "the flood gates are open for PS4 system reserves"

Yet despite all these things I honestly don't think gamers care lol.
RROD was massive on unproportionate scales yet MS did pretty well.

Watch dogs is a day 1 title isn't it? And Ubi have confirmed a date 19-22 Nov.

Well, I care, but the hardware only has to last me until the first major revision, really. Trade ins for working hardware will usually go a loooong way towards paying for a new model.

Not really it was about the same as the orginal PS1's. Atleast now the media went after MS and forced them into 3 warrenty. I ended buying 3 PS1s because of the whole laser issue. It was bad enough the local gameshops would not take them in on trade.

I was thinking of a trade square warrenty depending on price.

Anyone in the east coast see if they're still taking preorders?
I just called two local GameStops (I'm in Royal Oak, Michigan). Both stores, the person answering the phone answered with some variation of "Thank you for calling GameStop, where you can now preorder a PlayStation 4. How can I help you?" To which I answered each, "You already have."

I call boola on that story.

Yes, in product terms I think 5-7m would be a regular sized launch of a big product. It could be done. In console terms, no one has ever done it because of the tech that is normally involved. MS launched with an almost experimental GPU in the 360, Sony did launch with an experimental CPU in the PS3. Before that PS2 needed a lot of specialist manufacturing capability, EE+GS was actually made in house at Sony and required Sony's semiconductor's business to invest a shit load to get production up to speed, and back then Sony never really outsourced so the shortages lasted for almost a year while capacity was brought online.

Now with TSMC making the APU, Hynix and Samsung making the GDDR5 RAM and Toshiba making the HDDs and Blu-ray drives, the PS4 is the first real outsourced console, which means they can place big parts orders and let the suppliers worry about delivering.

Good to hear, so hopefully they are on course for a good launch.

Seems Sony is really going with big WorldWide launch of PS4. Pre-orders for PS4 also started, today, in UAE by GeekyGames (Online Game Retailer) as tweeted by official Playstation Middle East. They deliver game to almost every Middle East country.

Although their shipping cost outside UAE is pretty high for PS4. Standalone console cost about $460 while camera, extra controller and games cost about $80 each.

EDIT - Just noticed that when clicking each games for the description, reduced price is displayed which is about $72. Games here in UAE and KSA usually cost about $4 to $10 higher than US and UK while console $50 to $100.

That retailer covers almost 10 countries as mentioned on their site.

And I've updated my previous post with expected price in USD using universal currency exchange rates.

Pretty close in parity to the US pricing (the console at least).

Sorry, I mixed console and software price parity. Updated that post. Console usually cost $50 to $100 higher than US or UK. And since Middle East comes under PAL region, console and softwares are imported from EU.

Very interesting news, these are great signs for a fantastic launch! Sony must be on schedule for their manufacturing process.

I'm in the east coast, and I pre-ordered mine yesterday. I better get it day one! When I come back in July, I'll ask them if I was in the first shipment. When I was talking to the gamestop guy about watch dogs, he was talking about other launch games too, so I hope I am in the launch shipment.

This. There's also the issue that both MS and Sony will likely be using same foundries, so producing a ton might hurt MS by limiting what they can produce.
