For what it's worth, I just launched my gaming podcast and it sure could use some love.

It's a bit different than most gaming podcasts, except for maybe A Life Well Wasted. I took This American Life* and 99 Percent Invisible as inspiration, and it's heavily edited stories, not news or impression round ups.

The big conceit is I want it to be enjoyable for people who might not even like games all that much, because a good story is a good story.

It's called Game is a 4 Letter Word and I take a real 4 letter word for fuel/inspiration for each episode. The first episode is PINK and we talk to retro game store clerks, Nintendo Lawyers (he's retired so he doesn't have to worry about being fired) Producers who adapted Brat Pack classics to video games, a prog rock crash course in chip tunes, a very particular video game museum curator, and a fashion PhD.

Also, I connect John Waters to Pokemon.

Not sure if there's an audience for this, but it's real fun to make, so check it out if it sounds interesting, it's at all the regular places, itunes, soundcloud, stitcher, rss on libsyn.

*David Sedaris is even in the first episode. Kinda

Whoever recommended cane and rinse, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I've listened to nearly all of them and it's my favourite gaming podcast. Loved the metal gear and silent hill ones

Any good non North American podcasts by English speakers? I enjoy Giantbomb and a few other Yank podcasts, but I can only take so much of their culture.

Tom Chick is great to listen to. I don't really recommend the ones he isn't on.

Quality varies considerably, but when it clicks it is pretty good. The most interesting guy, imo, isn't on very much lately because of work and family commitments. But, the latest one features his top ten starting at the 1h10m mark.

* * *

I wish there were more podcasts that were face to face. The camaraderie of Idle Thumbs and the 2 Bombcasts never occurs over Skype.

Cane and rinse is so good, you should all listen to it.

I like it quite a bit but I don't think it's for everyone. Even I'm not down for it sometimes and I enjoy it. I appreciate their thoroughness but sometimes I don't need the first 30 minutes to be talking about every person that worked on the game and their resume, and I think they may have too many people on the show. The information is good I just think presentation is a little bloated.

After years of listening to most of the podcasts that are often in the top 10 on iTunes, I've found that GT Time (Gametrailers) is definitely my favorite. The main reason is because of the great questions the moderator (Kyle Bosman) asks. They are always very poignant and unique from the standard gaming questions you hear, especially the ones where he asks "What if you were tasked to market this game, how would you do it?", since much of gaming news surrounds announcements.

Mega64 Podcast is the #1 gaming stream on Twitch, led by industry leader Rocko Boaty with frequent guest speaker Will.I.Am.

The Gaming Cult Podcast is pretty good too, it features friends and cast of Mega64 and is a little more gaming centric, they go in deep on indie games.

Hey Guys,
It has been a few weeks now, but I recently launched a new podcast that I had in the works for a while. I am super excited to be sharing it with people and have everyone check it out. It is called "Final Games", it is inspired in part by the BBC radio show "Desert Island Discs", I talk with my guests about the eight games that inspired them. If they could only play eight games for the rest of their days, which eight would they choose and why?

My first guest is radio DJ and host of the Soccer podcast "The Football Ramble", Pete Donaldson. I would love for you all to check it out and let me know what you think! Feedback is greatly accepted :)

My current rotation is Insert Credit, Jimquisition, US Gamer, Axe of the Blood God, Tinycast, NWR RFN, HG101, Retronauts, Back in my Play and the entire Morning Radio suite (whenever they happen). All are great and well worth listening to. I miss Red Sun Gamer too.

I used to love 8-4 Play but find it's really been dragging and hard to get through lately. I dunno, it probably needs more interns and less Destiny.

I really like Retro Asylum. Episodes are quite long and in-depth, and they have a lot of different contributors who rotate each show. Interesting to get a retro perspective from somewhere where the games industry didn't collapse in the 80s too, whereas most American retro podcasts I listen to treat 83-85 like a black hole.

RetroCollect is another good retro podcast from the UK, albeit more irregular than Retro Asylum.

Thanks for the positive feedback. I'm one of the hosts (Paul Davies) of Retro Asylum and it's good to hear you like our work.

We definitely got a different gaming experience in the UK during the 80's, in fact it was a great time for us especially on the computer side of the market.

If you haven't already I'd recommend checking out Retro Game Squad which is a US-based retro show.

Other UK shows of note are:
Cane and Rinse
Midnight Resistance
Joypod
Videogamer UK

Whatever happened to WAHP--Warning! A Huge Podcast?

Such a great podcast, but it seems the regulars never developed a consistent schedule.

I haven't checked out your podcast yet so I can't give any feedback, but you might want to check out the Built to Play podcast if you haven't already, as it sounds like you're taking a similar approach.

i'm actually going to be using one of their stories in an upcoming episode. Was very surprised to find the show.

(let me know if you ever listen to my show!)

Not a big fan of self endorsement but once I saw this thread, thought some fellow Gaffers might appreciate a cast I've been working on (hopefully)

Recently a group of friends and I created a website and are now ten episodes deep in our own gaming podcast Easy Mode Ultra, a casual conversation about gaming for the hardcore and breeding grounds of tangential idiocy and often ignorance! In other words the best kind of barely edited cast.

Also just started an anime podcast, Sugoi Squad, the most sugoi podcast on the internetz this side of the third impact, we reference gaming pretty often if that counts haha.

Check it out if you're interested! Would definitely appreciate any and all feedback!

I like what they aim for and I like the format they use, however, I sometimes feel that some of the contributors they use don't quite make the grade and bring little to the table in terms of insightful discussion.

That being said, there is still some good stuff to be heard and it is nice to see individual games of note (not always positive) being given some real attention and thought.

I hear ya. It's more about us just wanting to give credit, which, sometimes, takes a bit longer than we anticipate. I do agree that, sometimes, we take a bit too much time with that section.

Three Moves Ahead typically does shows about just a single game. It's almost entirely focused on various types of (usually) PC strategy games, though, so if those aren't your jam it probably won't work.

Thanks for this. I'm not fans of Idle Thumbs proper, but as someone who hangs around /tg/ this is perfect for me.

Got a new episode of Game is a 4 Letter Word: CULT.

Talk to a cult movie historian and see how games can be cult classics, travel to an Earthbound/Mother convention to talk to super fans, and David Wolinsky of Don't Die contributes a piece about the subculture of indie games and game writing fame and what that actually means.

What are the rules on NeoGAF for promoting your own podcast? I just started one and we're now on iTunes. Am I allowed to post the link here? Or even create a thread about it?

Someone has to promote it for you. If you do, you many get your status changed or banned.

Sucks, I know as i have a long standing gaming podcast as well but the listeners don't frequent here.

This came out before Fallout 4's launch so the discussion about the screen leaks is outdated, but it's more about the graphic debate than anything.

-MP3
-Stream (YouTube)
Contents copypasta:
00:00 - Various Fallout 4 graphics perspectives

CTRL+F Podquisition... hmm.

Yeah, if you love Jim Sterling, listen to this. He is easily the most entertaining voice in the gaming reviews... thing/world/industry.

Someone on Reddit recently corrected me in saying he "isn't a journalist" so I don't know. Maybe he can chime in here and tell me what he would like to be called.

Podquisition is pretty good. Jim of course is great. I have to admit though that I find Laura kind of annoying. I'm sure she's a nice person and all but even after a year I still get turned off by her contributions.

SuperBestFriendcast - My goto podcast. Extremely adequate fellas discussing games and shooting the shit.

Roundtable Podcast - they're just kinda getting started. Every show guarantees a new cover song by the one and only Northernlion.

Co-optional Podcast - TB's podcast. Feels like the most well structured podcast.

GT Time - A team I think shows a really strong passion for games.

Podquisition - If you like Jim sterling and enjoy hearing people abuse their taste buds for your enjoyment, this might be for you.

Absolutely. I think she, herself, has acknowledged that part of her online persona has been amped up so that people would notice but I think that now that they have, she either has nothing beyond the initial shtick or is too afraid to reveal what chops she actually has.
Either way, something has to give as after being sick on the podcast there's not much lower to go.

Are there any podcasts that focus on the video game industry? Something like a Stratechery for video games? I haven't been able to find anything capable of filling that hole since 2007.

I've really been enjoying Power Pros, if you want a good Nintendo focused podcast. Hosted by two former Nintendo Power editors (Chris Hoffman and Chris Slate)

A few of my underrated favorites are:

1. Player One
2. Talking Games
3. GameInformer

Love the personalities on all of them.

Off topic but a few of the most overrated podcasts IMO:

1. Podcast Beyond (IGN)
2. Kinda Funny
3. Maybe too early, but PS I love You XOXO.

Unpopular opinion I'm sure, but Kinda Funny personalities seem to love themselves WAYYYY too much. It may be typical of a patreon funded indever. Don't like all the self praise though. It's a bit excessive regardless.

Can't stand all the yelling that goes on during "Beyond". And the fact that Colin and Greg have resurrected their PlayStation podcast to be identical to their Beyond format I think is a power move and really does not send a respectful message to their former employers.
