Saw "Your Name." tonight. It was great.
One thing that's been bugging me about Persona is everyone constantly bothering you to go to the dungeon. In universe it makes sense why there's urgency, but I'm right before the end of the dungeon with a week to spare, and first I get approached before I even get to school asking to go in, and then I have messages saying "Did you forget the deadline? We should go in" when there's a whole 7 days left and I'm right before the end. A daily reminder is fine. But I don't need 3-4 reminders a day

I watched F7 right after Fury Road so I was a bit disappointed with some of the car chase scenes but goddamn it's the only franchise that seems to be truckin' along and improving after each film. (Fast Five is still my favorite though).

That and maybe Mission: Impossible. After 1 and 2, it seemed like a meh franchise. I remember rolled eyes when MI3 was announced. 3, 4, and 5 have revitalized that franchise. As for Mission: Impossible, it can't be a coincidence that the leap in quality coincided with J.J. Abram's involvement (directed 3, produced 4, 5, and next year's 6). Even Jeff spoke very, very highly of 5 (Rogue Nation).

Mission Impossible 5 is so good. Like so much better than any other movie in that franchise. Its crazy
The first Mission: Impossible is still the best film of the franchise but it's a very different movie from the later ones.
In the end the second oen is the only bad one.
I'd probably rank them 1 > 4 > 3 > 5 > 2
Mission Impossible definitely has a pretty similar history as F&F. The first movie was a pretty tight stand-alone movie that didn't necessarily have to spawn a franchise. The second movie was a disappointing heap of trash that really should've killed the future viability of the franchise. Then the later installments find their groove and just go all-in on the stupidity and become awesome.
There is a divergence in that Mission Impossible never had a Tokyo Drift style side story or a complex timeline, but still its probably the closest comparison to F&F.

Personally, I think Tim Curry would be the perfect villain for when they inevitably go into space, but, unfortunately, he had a stroke a few years ago and I don't know if he has recovered. Last interview I saw was rough.

What I like about Mission Impossible, until this newest sixth, is switching directors each time. There's a different vibe across the series...which is helpful when so many are about the powers that be not trusting Ethan.

I first read your F&F as Fast and Furious (you had just used F&F in that manner just posts above) and I was veeeeeeeeeeeeery confused as to what you meant.
As for EoT, Bill Paxton was set to reprise his character in the upcoming sequel. I wonder how far along the movie's development is and how much it needs/needed to be altered following his death.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one on the planet that liked MI2. Though when I think about it more, I like individual scenes alot more than the whole thing. Film had some memorable ass sequences.

I haven't seen it many times, but I did enjoy it enough. Probably my least favorite, though. Of the whole franchise, I think Philip Seymour Hoffman's villain in MI3 is easily my favorite of the antagonists.
Maybe a cross-coast stream?

The way they handled the ending of 7 is kind of mindboggling in how sensitively done it was.

Personally I think it's a bit overdone. I understand why they did it that way, but I would've preferred the movie ending with Vin Diesel driving away and just a "For Paul". In 20 years time if my children are watching this movie they would have no idea why this scene is being made so awkwardly emotional when his character is just going to raise a family (until "For Paul" comes up and they realise the actor died).
I think it's well handled as a tribute, but its an awkward end to the movie in my opinion.

It's the weakest one but I enjoy it because of how over the top and dumb it is, It also has a good score as well by Hans Zimmer. Yup, Hoffman was definitely the best antagonist. That damn MI3 opening is great because of him.

Well, Brad Bird didn't disappoint for sure. Speaking of Brad Bird, more people should watch The Iron Giant(voiced by none other than Vin Diesel). A very underrated masterpiece.

I think 5 has the best score, personally.
1 had Danny Elfman, 2 had Hans Zimmer, 3 and 4 had Michael Giacchino, 5 had Joe Kraemer (the only one I had never heard of beforehand). At first, I was disappointed that Michael Giacchino was not returning for 5 (if not for John Williams, he might be my favorite composer), but the soundtrack ended up being so, so good. Also, the integration of the music from the opera scene was awesome (even though, that particular opera is starting to become overused (it was awesomely used in Daredevil Season 1, though)).
Mmm. Hmm. Very good movie. Brad Bird has such a great knack for animation (Iron Giant, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille). Not to mention that he was a creative consultant on the Simpsons. I often wonder if it's a coincidence that the drop in quality happened around the time he stepped away from the show. Also, if you ever get a chance, you should see his "Family Dog" short cartoon within Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories series (his homage to The Twilight Zone).

Hmm can't rank the scores, have to listen to them. Generally though, they all had good/great scores.
I regret belittling the F&F franchise and assuming it was some dumb mindless thing all these years. Watching all of these movies on a weekly basis for the last month and a half has been an illuminating experience and some of the best content on the site ever. So glad I got to watch them like this along with the Beast crew. Also that ending was gut wrenching.
Now I gotta find myself a friend who's seen em all so I can go with them to watch Fate.

Speaking of Mission: Impossible, how cool is it that the opening sequence of 5 was inspired by Uncharted (the cargo plane sequence from UC3).

I saw the Fast and 40's for FF6, and oh my god this movie is amazing. That stinger on the end.

Yup, it's pretty insane. What's more insane is that he did the stunt 8 times IIRC(it has been a while since I've seen the behind the scenes stuff for that film).

It's because of him, I feel, that the Mission Impossible franchise overshadow James Bond now. Skyfall was like the last bond film worth a fuck and it wasn't even Casino Royale tier.
e: Speaking of MI5, he also held his breath for 6 minutes underwater because the entire sequence was done in a single take.
people always mention the final race and the montage as the part that made them tear up, but what got me was when they're all on the beach and tyreese is yapping away and luda shuts him up and tells him to just stop and look

Until 4 MI:2 was my fav. 4. MI 4 is the greatest action movie in 21st century along with Hot Fuzz.
Now for some trivia. The bad guy (Dougray Scott) in MI 2 was the OG Wolverine actor but Hugh Jackman took over because MI 2 went over schedule. He also said no to being James Bond so Daniel Craig got the role. Personally I can understand why Dougray Scott was cast in those to roles, if we go by his looks.
