12:23 - 22:27 Dan loved Wolfenstein The Old Blood, yay. Brad hasn't finished The New Order...

I really believe that Brad finished The New Order. I have to believe. I think I remember him saying he did so, but I don't know!

Next week there needs to be a fig challenge for Dan in order to balance out the chaos of his nacho cheese shenanigans.

Jeff doesn't like the Witcher 3 because The Witcher games just don't click with him. That's fine. He fully admits that Witcher fans will get more out the game than him. Not every franchise is for everyone, and that certainly applies to The Witcher. Glad he gave it a fair shake, though.

They, along with every single podcast who has the same ad network, has been pimping Ex Machina for a while.

It's made me hate the movie because I just keep hearing bad ads for it.

I've seen that film and absolutely adored it. One of the best near future sci-fi films I've seen and years and one of the most interesting explorations of what AI means I've seen on film.

That's what makes these ads so baffling. They're trying to sell this sex and "men creating women machine" angle, when that is really just a small subset of what the film is about. It really bothers me because it sells that film so damn short. Makes it sound like soft-core porn with robot ladies.

Reminds me of that discussion Alex and Brad had two weeks ago on the Bombcast regarding Metroidvania games.
Brad: Why don't you like the same things that I like?

Alex: I don't know, but we should probably fight about it.

I feel like the Alex and Brad stuff wasn't really fighting. It was more of an dissection of tastes and why they each gravitate toward certain games. That kind of discussion can be very interesting and productive.

The problem comes when people have an insistence on uniformity or you must have a concrete, unbiased reason for not liking something before your opinion becomes "valid". I've already seen some of this around Jeff's impression of The Witcher 3, and that sucks. Some people acting like Jeff is just stomping on their fun which, listing to him discuss the game on the podcast, he clearly isn't.

I kind of wish someone else had played Witcher to have a second take on it or more of a conversation. Jeff is good at concisely explaining what about a game doesn't click with him but sometimes tends to downplay the things they do get right - if there are any to speak of, that is. For a game that's been seemingly scoring pretty highly across the board I would have been interested to know what people who are really into it see in it (granted, I haven't read any of the reviews yet).

Looking forward to more open world Vinny quick look hijinks, in any case.

Inevitable QL will fulfill some of that. I'm really hoping the GBEast podcast they've been hinting at almost being ready hits soon enough for a real discussion of it.

Nah obviously not, they were just making fun of the internet's tendency to boil these things down to conflict.

i listened up to the part where people said it skipped. i didn't hear any of that in the Premium version. was this because they spliced in an ad in the regular one and it caused the skipping?

Wow, I love Jeff's speech about Silent Hills and Konami during the emails section. It's like one of those intelligent Jeff rants that he sometimes gets into, mostly on Jar Times. I'm gonna need to remember to iso that part of the Bombcast.

Still without luck

I started playing the platinum reward copy of Tropical Freeze I got from Club Nintendo. Dan's right: that soundtrack is SOTY material right there. Here's a specific track from the game that he played on this bombcast that even stubborn Kirkhope loving Jeff liked.

David Wise the best.

Who would pick sword over whip? Play one of the 8 million other games with a dude with a sword in it if you want a sword.

Except in most games with a whip, you only end up using it for a little while for novelty. Then you quickly notice it is impractical as hell, and go back to kicking ass with a sword.

Whips are for showing off, or getting off. Nothing more.

Whips are great in Castlevania. That have a satisfying windup, a decent range, and usually have wacky hitboxes that allow you to hit enemies behind you on the first few frames of attack.

Swords are boring as fuck in comparison.

I forget which games have it other than Portrait of Ruin but it's fun to use the whip and then hold the attack button to make it dangle. You can then spin it to attack enemies by rotating the dpad.

PoR having that was a love letter to Super Castlevania IV, which introduced it and had a lot of expanded whip mechanics.

I think the fig talk is making me more interested in them. The description the emailer sent in is pretty cool.

I find it pretty funny that they keep bringing up the Hyrule Historia as though it was a book about the Zelda time line when really it was an art book and the lore and time line was like 3 pages.

Probably because of the hilariously pretentious title ;)

No frontin' against the book, mind you, I've held it and flipped through it and it's amazing.
