Gran Turismo 5 Photo Sharing Thread

I'd have to take a good look at GT4 but I thought they used to have bilinear filtering on the alpha textures. If they've stopped doing that it would make the pixelated edges look (slightly) worse in GT5.

Can't wait for digital foundry's analysis because I'm completely baffled by GT5's image quality. I have no clue what they are doing there with anti-aliasing.

Isn't there a temporal component to GT5's anti-aliasing? Like the PSP game?

If that's the case, looking at isolated shots to try and derive info about the AA might be kind of pointless. And would explain if aliasing appears to be better in motion.

There is. Apparently you can toggle it on and off in the menus.

Those captures from Taxigamer are accurate. Download one of the gameplay videos from their website (they also capture at 60fps) and display it on your TV to get an idea of what this will look like for you. I'm really starting to get the impression people don't even know what type of image quality they can expect from systems they've been using for years now..

There does seem to be a chroma bug in their captures. Reds look pixelated, even in pictures of the hud.

Accurate but misleading, in the sense that when you watch in motion, at least in GT5p, the jagged edges don't call as much attention.

I don't feel it's misleading. But I do suggest, like I stated above, to download their gameplay videos and display it on your TV. You can just use your PS3 or Xbox to watch those if you don't have your PC connected.

Maybe i should just NOT use the internet during these 2 days of most intense waiting to get my copy...

Too much rumours and photos that may or may not be bullshots or fakes or GT4.
Bu-but the standard cars still look better than anything out there!

Guess I won't be using them for photomode or replays at all.

Or even display the direct feed pics on the tv screen. Direct feeds always look better on a decent sized HDTV than they do on a 20 inch monitor you sit 3 feet away from. I happen to think Taxigamer's pics look good. (besides that hideous standard car pic)

The car says Gran Turismo 4 on it...

And is that a "Standard" road texture? This is GT4

It's GT5. That car model is from GT4, just like 800 others.
Race cars are bound to look shitty thanks to the crappy textures.

At least normal cars can still benefit from the improved lighting and shader effects.

It's interesting to see the trickery they used on the PS2. Lots of flat, sprite-like polygons used in the "standard" cars.

Tryckser said:
I think they would at least change the Gran Turismo4 on the car to 5?

Why would they? That's how the car looked like in real life.

I'm thinking there's a lightmap or some other effect cutting through the car there. The same comical jaggies happen when other cars' water spray hits windscreen wipers. Patchable perhaps?

No, they didn't. Also, the road texture looks a bit strange because of the motion blur in that particular shot. That effect does look better in motion.

The reason why that car, and I'm sure some others, looks bad is because of the alpha textures. It makes those edges look quite horrible. For premium cars that's polygonal, so not an issue.

There is motion blur in the shot which is why the road looks as it does.

The quality of the motion blur in GT5 isn't all that hot, though. There are plenty of other games that have handled the blur with many more samples. Even Lucas Arts managed this with Force Unleashed II. There were so many samples used that you could not really see any artifacts in still shots.

Jesus, those are insane.

Just goes to show how far we have to go in terms of image quality. Even on the PC, you just don't get results of that quality (at least not without a massive loss in performance, though even the best SSAA doesn't look quite that good).

Photo mode dude. PC could run that in real time if they had a car porn dev house like PD.

Does anyone have any GT4 photomode vs GT5 in-game comparison shots?

I want to know if it's unreasonable to expect this insanity in-game with the next generational jump.

The colors in those last two have definitely been messed with in Photoshop.

Looks like someone brightened them and then re-compressed badly. Definitely not the original pictures.

Not with that kind of image quality. SSAA can do amazing things, but cranking it up to a level THAT high would absolutely murder the framerate. It could get reasonably close, but there would still be jaggies. Even older games like Half-Life 2 can't hold high framerates when SSAA is maxed out.

The replays in GT5 ARE 30 fps.

The only time you get motion blur like that in GT5 is during replays, which run at 30fps as well :)

Where did you find this screen grab Noisepurge ? (we didn't grabbed it so I'm curious)

To those having doubts about the way the game will "truly" look on their TV, do as others said. Put our videos on a USB stick or stream them to your console. That's pretty much what you would see if the game was running on your TV (ie : pure awesomeness).

Anyway, this is getting ridiculous seriously, I mean even the most beautiful game in the world will always have graphics shortcomings. It reminds me of this old pic of the Mazdaspeed Miata in Forza 2 taken by Gamespot or IGN...:lol

PS : I guess people really focus on the standard cars because I'm actually surprised that there is no bitching about the weird dithering-like thing going on during SSR7...:lol

It's probably a screencap of a video.

Btw, this thread is officially ruined... I feel sorry for LiquidMetal.

I'm pretty sure this game is being dissected so much simply because of how good it looks. The shortcomings start to stand out a little more. I for one can't wait to finally get my hands on it and enjoy the heck out of it (both playing and watching!).

What the fuck is with these direct screenshots?

Prologue didn't look this fucking jaggie on my tv, neither did the TT demo.

Either your TV masks the jaggies or because of the distance you sit from your TV they are less obvious. This is how the game looks, and prologue doesn't look any better.

Alright, so how many standard tracks are there and how many premium? The standard tracks look awful.
