Having it at PS4 launch seems stupid to me, it could scare off third parties and most people simply don't like buying hardware at launch, so they would surely lose some important sales. However, having a demo available at PSN on day 1 and the game releasing ~8 months later with a proper build up would be amazing.

This is the most logical scenario.

If third parties aren't scared of Halo or Mario, they're not going to be scared of GT.

And launch games get a sales boost if anything, because they're the only games new owners can buy. See GT3.

If I had to guess, I would say GT6 will be available within one year of the PS4 launch. I think we will also get a GT5 Spec 3 sometime next year, with new tracks and new cars (hoping for a porsche car pack would be asking for too much wouldn't it?)

Is there any possible chance that the guy was saying GT6 but actually meant GT5 Spec II?

PD was calling it an upgrade big enough to be a new game or something along those words correct?

They've still got loads to do. There's just over 200 cars that are worthy of GT6. Modelling those apparently took ages. They need to at least triple that number, if they're gonna get rid of the Standard models, which needs to be done.

.

They "need" 600 cars? No they don't need 600 premium cars. Let me guess where you got that number though. The notion that you need that many cars especially when the other big games in the genre have like 80 is kinda ridiculous and unfair imo.

I'd be more than happy with 300 unique cars at PS4 quality for their first next gen title. I want a better selection of cars though.

Here is Bathurst with F1 car. Amazing.

And here's me absolutely sucking at it in Project C.A.R.S.

so many mistakes -.- That track is terrifying.

The number of premium cars in GT5 is already closer to 300 then 200 anyway.

Yep, devs need to find a way of incorporating more tracks into their games. It's all well and good to have a gazillion cars but monotony tends to set in pretty quickly when there are a limited number of tracks to race on...

It suits the kind of game though. GT is celebration of cars, a museum, a showcase, etc. I often spend much GT gaming in a single car, so I agree, it doesn't need 600 cars. But that sort of number allows for a huge variety that is totally unique to GT. GT6 would be a very different game to GT4 and 5 if they ended up with 300 cars. Perhaps for the better? Who knows.

Well of course it would be great to have 600 cars but its not realistic (assuming Ps4). The time it takes to model cars will only go up I think, so expecting them to more than triple their output next gen is far fetched. Again, I'm referring to unique cars.

Let's say they keep 200 cars from GT5 with little or no improvements necessary (apart from audio, amirite). So I'm proposing they make 400 new cars, many of them based on the most popular Standard cars from previous titles, and a whole bunch of new ones. It was obviously a big step up to model at GT5 quality, and they don't really need to go much further. Lighting, shadows and effects will be more important. So they have the infrastructure in place to model like this... it'll be easier to churn out 400 cars this time round.

Does the process to model cars with the same quality decrease as time goes on? I don't think it does tbh. You would need to change your process of data collection or whatever they do now. And they probably had 4-5 years worth of modelling cars.

Its pure speculation on my part but I'm trying to keep my expectations in check (not low though).

I'm sure it does. They would have had to develop loads of new tools to model GT5 cars - that process doesn't need to be repeated. The experience gained from modelling at that quality would have increased the PD modellers' abilities and efficiency greatly. And moving forward, I imagine that new production cars become easier to model when the car companies have loads of CAD data to share.

This thread has reinvigorated my interest in the series. Is GT5 awesome now?

Spec II and the DLC have really helped. I would say 70% of the bugs have been fixed (and there were a ton of bugs). Its still not all that great if you are looking for a single player mode, but the online is fantastic IMO. Spec II (comes with the first batch of DLC) is only $40 IIRC so its a decent value.

I don't play games online hardly at all (and I don't have the time to sink hours and hours into games these days), but I would like some graphics-porn to pick up and play with here and there.

If they are only taking photos of the track now then a finished version of the track could be anything from 6 months to over a year away.

Call me crazy but I was kind of expecting GT6 for this year as a quick turn around that was more of a refined GT5 with a few more cars + tracks so if they are still getting basic track stuff now I think the game is nowhere near release.

If its out next year we could get that Forza 5 vs GT6 fanboy battle we always wanted. Turn 10's spokespeople are quite the loud mouths when it comes to bashing the competition normally so going head to head with GT would be quite entertaining.

Polyphony deserves a lot of commendation, in my opinion. It may have taken them a long time to release GT5, but they've also supported the game post launch and listened to what the fans want. I also think that they're strategy of making GT5 with the future in mind was a great decision that will pay off.

I think that most people are hoping that it's a PS4 game, so that would rule out a release for this year. It would be a dream scenario for Sony to have GT6 ready to go for launch. They should at least let PD attempt to pull that off.

i think gt6 is a ps3 for game but if sony really wants a killer launch app for ps4, gt6 is the game.

I think they have been surprised at how well DLC is selling. They probably did the math and realised that if they keep releasing new tracks for DLC, they'll make more money in two years than they did with GT5 in 6. So my guess would be that we either see it in GT5 as DLC, or we'll see a revamped GT6 for PS3. Of course it would be even smarter if they can do two things at once, work on GT6 and get that out on time (and really they don't need all that much more than having a smoother DLC integration (this repatching the whole game each time seems silly) with online modes and good a-sync multiplayer support (i.e. beat each other's times). Just add something that allows them to periodically release new events of all sorts of types regularly, and release this early or at launch for PS4. Then build a full old-school GT6 from there if you still need it, for disc-release for those few still offline or wanting to be offline. Heck, you can make the initial 'framework' free to play, perhaps installed on PS4 by default.

Something like this would be way less awkward than doing GT:HD, GT Prologue, and then a game proper.

Also state openly that you'll do both, and that you'll leave it up to players to decide whether they want to take part in the online build-out of the game, or whether they want to wait several years for an all-out release in the style of previous 'full' GT games. After all, we all know that's the choice we have. And I personally like the 'get bits out periodically' way better than waiting another 5 years for the next one.
