GTA 6's new release date seems much closer, but it comes at a cost

GTA 6’s rumoured new release window could be much closer than we thought. However, it might come at a cost.

While we know that Grand Theft Auto 6 is on the way, Rockstar Games hasn't officially announced a release date or even a release window. Yet, that hasn't stopped rumours from running rampant on the internet.
However, the most recent GTA 6 leak suggests that its launch might be arriving sooner than expected, but it might come shipped with cut content. As reported by Dexerto, prominent Rockstar Games leaker, Tez2, claims that for GTA 6 to meet its current release window, the developers are “cutting portions of the game”.

Furthermore, it is also claimed that the content being cut from Grand Theft Auto 6 may later release as DLC. Whether it will arrive as paid DLC or via a free content update, remains to be seen. After all, Rockstar Games have released a plethora of free content for GTA Online over the last decade.
That being said, if this cut content would arrive as paid DLC, assuming it is story-based content for the main game, this will be the first time this has happened in 14 years. The last time Rockstar Games released story DLC for the base game was the critically acclaimed The Lost and the Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony for GTA 4 in 2009, respectively.

What’s more, going back to GTA 6’s potential release window, Tez2 believes that while “holiday 2024” was a possibility, “early 2025” is now looking more likely.

Tez2 also claims that “upper management” might not be in a “position to delay” GTA 6 for multiple years. As a result, that is where the content being cut comes into play in the hope of not delaying the game any further.
“Cutting more portions of the game to package into DLCs to release later on may be sustainable for management than delaying further,” claimed Tez2.
Obviously, we should always take rumours and speculation with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. However, whether it be GTA or Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar Games is no stranger to delaying its biggest titles when it needs to.

If they delay, it would be a good nod to the industry that despite the change in personnel behind the production, quality and culture are the same.

If they don't, it's probably a sign the company has changed and so will the game...

As long as it's multi-player nonsense being cut

Sure sure, we'll cut out the stuff that makes us a bazillion dollars for sure and focus on the stuff you've already paid for

All I know that reviewers are going to be hard on this game even the end user.

These devs were wasting time for a whole 10 years and people are fed up . They are not gonna be easy on this game.

To be honest I kinda also hope it bombs hard . Might teach this shit company a thing or two

TBH get this trash out of the gate so that they can focus on a RDR Remaster. Other than a new legion of kids ready to play their first GTA (, kids born when GTAV released will be 10 years old) I don't see the point on releasing GTA VI.

Yeah, its going to bring a truckload of money but what can a new GTA bring to the table gameplay wise? Will they finally evolve from the 2001 style mission design? Also part of the reason GTA V is so successful its because it can run almost everywhere. I don't see GTA VI online being as big as GTA Online.

GTA V was basically the perfect storm: Released at the end of the 7th gen taking advantage of the massive playerbase. Then on next gen consoles with improved features and then the definitive version of the game. An amazing PC port that can scale to run on toasters or max out high end PCs.

I really don't know what to expect in a GTA sequel that's been cooking for a decade. Looking at 5 I was already like, "Welp, they've practically done everything, I really don't know how they can keep the gameplay fresh." To be honest, that feeling still remains.

Along with the folks that have left over the years, I really don't know what to make of anything of it. I'm sure it'll still sell well because of its name regardless. But, will it actually be better? Will it be the best iteration yet in some way, shape, or form? No clue. At all.

We knew this two years ago.

One plan that management has laid out for the next game, a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, is to start out with a moderately sized release (which, by Rockstar’s standards, would still be a large game) that is then expanded with regular updates over time, which may help mitigate stress and crunch.

I don't get the outdated mission design criticism. Which games did it better? The problem with open world games is that you can mess things up in a million ways and each one has to be taken into consideration when designing those missions, so some limitations and invisible walls are unavoidable unless you want the game to be janky and buggy or take even more time to develop.

So 2 years out is now "sooner than expected". I remember when 2 years was enough time to make an entire GTA game.

There're different beasts now.

The production into these games is astronomical, however its going to be 10+ years since the last GTA game came out.... even with all the updates GTA Online has had in that time i do think is too much.

But the GTA name is multi-generational now, it's the James Bond of gaming, it's evergreen and GTA customers in 2010 are the same customers in 2023 + a whole new generation of gamers.

Modern game development is not sustainable
This bullshit, it absolutely is, it's all the forcing of Microtransactions and figuring out how to fuck over the players with cutting content for DLC that slows down everything.

Also let's consider the source:

As a PC player I honestly struggle to give a fuck. If it doesn't come out on console until 2025 then likely i'll need to wait to 2026.

Only way I'll play it at launch is if I buy a console to play it. Maybe by the time it comes out there will be some good exclusive PS5 games to convince me to buy it. Or if any my friends buy a PS5 I can play it at theirs.

Im not interested in GTA Online so there needs to be a good amount of single player content for me to even want to play it

Could not care less about GTA6, pretty sure it will be shit.

Give me the next gen version of GOTG RDR2 instead please.
Dont know how can people comes to this conclusion without even playing the game🤷

RDR2 is old news you can play it on PC 4090 on max setting if you want nextgen version

Eventually Rockstar has to deliver new content cos they havent delivered anything new this gen and tbh i rather hope they dont stuck or recycling old content like they did with GTA5 🤷

In the Xbox activision court documents I believe GTA6 was mentioned as a 2023 release. I don't know that it will hit that but cutting content would be a way to help meet the deadline. Maybe they can cut the escort missions.

How is any of this bad news? Content gets cut all the time. And I'm tired of every game needing to be 40 hours long. Plus, I've always wanted GTA to have story DLC so no big deal here.
I'm also tired of games being 40 hours long but in the context of the game in question releasing in less than 3 years not in 10+ years since the last installment. You wanna take a whole decade to develop your shit? Well then your shit better sparkle and last me as a consumer for the next 10 years.

But it's modern development so in actuality it's 3 years unproductiveness since crunch is frowned upon now,3 years corona excuse where everyone is busy scratching their asses talking to their supervisors on zoom while working from home and 4 years of actual development. So I expect cut content up the ass and it wont be from GTA online.

They are not cutting shit. They will release it when it's content complete, whenever that may be. GTA5 copies are in the top sellers all the time, nevermind the cash they get from Online. Take2 will not push to release it earlier than R* wants.

A little extreme, but yeah........basically this.

Just a 60fps mode and a boost of image quality (which is absolutely awful on the PS4pro version running on PS5) would be enough.

Come on Rockstar it surely is not that much work. You should treat your magnum opus better.

They should treat their customers better too. It's rediculous they havnt patched Rdr2. 30 fps doesn't cut it for this game which already has input lag.

Shitty company
