Have you ever skipped or dropped a game due to the VA used in it?

Almost quit Bastion because of it.....the voice acting and talking about every single thing i did annoyed me at times. Was waiting to be offered a Funky Cold Medina.

Thief.
In a ye olde London-like town lived a grizzled thief with a thick and awful american accent who talked like a cheesy protagonist in a bad 90's comic book film adaptation by Jerry Bruckheimer.
Fucking atrocious.

No, but I had to change the dub from spanish to english in the witcher 1 because it was absolutely atrocious.
And I say this as someome who enjoys a lot castillian spanish voice acting when is well done. For example Zelda BotW seems to be a treat.

But holy shit The Witcher 1. Horrible acting all around with some actors i really hate their that were really common during the late 90's begining 2000s (they even appeared in blizzard games, thank god those now are top quality).
So there are 3 voice actors that I really hate and only work on games (and sometimes in some shitty documentaries). One of them only made a good job with george stobbart in broken sword, he was shit in anything else and even he was thrown out of the industry because of some shit he did to other better voice actors when he was a voice director. The other 2 I think are still in the business but you dont hear them anymore, or at least I had the pleasure of not having them in any game I pñayed lately.

I also hate when they get some famous guy or nornal actor (not voice actor, and it really shows in Spain when that happens) and put him into a animated movie or videogame. Sony is actually doing this and I dont understand why the fuck they are doing it because 99% people hate it.
They did it in heavy rain and it was atrocious (they actually got a lot of flak because of it), then didnt do it again, and now agaib with Horizon.
Some fucking actress of an old tv series or some shit because she says she is a gamer. She is a horrible actress and even worse voice actress, and even if the voice actress of Aloy, Michelle Jenner, is a really good voice actress (coming of a famous family of voice actors) im sure they got her not because of her voice, but because she is now more famous as a normal tv actress (hasnt work a lot as voice actress lately, until now with Horizon and retuning as Emma Watson for Beauty and the beast) as she is cute, thats why they are using her on the news when promoting the game, etc...
So fuck sony for going that route.

Another story, of not not buying the games, but being less interested on them as i plat. The series Desperados. The first game had a magnificent spanish dub, bought the two sequels but I never could finish them because the game wasnt dubbed to spanish and the english voice acting was mediocre.

Megaman X7's English VA is pretty grating to the ears...I've seen online Flashes with better voice acting then that game. Doesn't help that the gameplay is atrocious as well

The GBA remake of Link to the Past, with its godawful Link voice. I don't need to hear HAH HAH HAH HAH every time I swing my sword.

See also: GBA remake of Yoshi's Island. Why you gotta ruin games with shitty voice clips, Nintendo?

Drop a game just for the voice acting? Whaa...

Well if Spears ended up in a game I was looking forward to, I'd most certainly skip it yeah.

I'll skip games I might otherwise enjoy if they lack english voice acting, and I will buy games I'm not sure I will enjoy because English voice acting being a surprise addition to me. (Lets see how Akiba's Beat is)
maybe you can now, I dunno. I feel like all the gen 6 and 7 jrpgs I played didn;t have this option.
Not JRPGs, but I bought steins;gate because I confirmed you can disable the voice acting, and on my import blazblue central fiction I was able to turn voice volume to 0

Wouldn't have played FFXV at all if the English track was the only choice. I can deal with one or two crappy actors in a game, but when the entire cast just sounds awful, I can't deal.

Oh, wait, I lied. There is one game that stands out. I had to drop Deus Ex Human Revolution because of Adam Jensen's voice actor. I don't think he was a bad actor per se, but something about the gravelly tone he struck gave me a massive migraine.

Most of the newer games you can turn the voice volume to zero. I have never had a real issue with certain character voices but I won't defend them as there are some real bad ones out there. VA is a small part of the entire package so I overlook it if the rest of the game is polished.

I didn't skip the game completely, but I played the majority of Rise of the Tomb Raider on mute because of Camilla Luddington's excruciatingly bad voice acting.

I personally hate it when anime-looking characters talk in English. It just seems so unnatural to me for some reason. I definitely would not have enjoyed Persona 3 and Persona 4 if undub patches didn't exist. I have Golden on the Vita and I simply can't get used to the English voices now. So happy P5 will have Japanese voices at launch now.

I almost did this with Danganronpa UDG until they told me that you had to download the original voices as DLC.

A real problem I'm having is The Witcher 3. Translated to spanish, but no spanish dub. While the translation keeps the same names as the books, the ones in the english dub are completely different and gets in my nerves. Like reading Jaskier and hearing Dandelion. Might set the voices to Polish. I won't understand thing, but...

I dropped Persona 2: Eternal Punishment after listening to the characters 5 minutes in. Gross.

This was like 6 years ago and there wasn't an undub version of it yet.

FFX-HD. I loved the game at the time when I was a kid but going back now...holy shit Tidus' voice is irritating.

It's a lot of games from both the sixth and the fifth generation are like this now. I never played FFX back in it's day, but I played it a year ago on PS4 and enjoyed it. You could try to watch the video where his voice actor shows some of the lines he read, he generally seems like a nice guy and it makes listening to Tidus more tolerable.

Yes, the PAL version... which I own...

That's why I immediately sold it and bought a US copy. Thank God for region free consoles!

The English VA is actually pretty good too, most of the cast are Atlus regulars. Too bad the same can't be said about ZTD...

I dropped Telltale Batman after a few hours. Couldn't get over that Bruce and Catwoman sounded exactly like Rhys and Fiona from Tales from the Borderlands. First time that has happen to me,

nah not really, i can't recall a game in which the voice actors were THIS bad. I tried out The last of Us in German once out of curiosity, switched back instantly after the opening cutscene.

Yep..

If Johnny Yong Bosch is voicing a main protagonist, I know I will not enjoy the game.

Haven't been able to stand his voice since Fragile Dreams...

Yes, he is that whiny overacted stereotype of anime voice.

Never really had this issue. I will switch to Japanese if the dub is bad enough though. Thankfully we seem to mostly be past that.

Play Persona 4. He's silent 90% of the time.

Badger from Breaking Bad being one of the voices in FFVII:R is gonna make it hard for me man, his voice is so distinctive and annoying it'll be impossible to invest in the character :'(

Not really but VO's who tend to repeat the same voices can pull me out of the scene quite badly. Steve Blum for example. If I see his name I know I'll be hearing that "gruff guy" voice somewhere. He is basically the wilhelm scream of actors to me

Lol, man. I couldn't play those games out of my speakers after my housemates randomly asked If I was watching fuckin torture porn from hearing her through the wall.

Tales of Berseria's English VA is getting really close. I could tolerate Karol from Tales of Vesperia, but something about Magilou's performance and Bienfu's literal voice has given me nothing but painful headaches and cringe. It's extremely uncomfortable and grating to listen to. I'm seriously getting close to just give up on the game.

You telling me this isn't hilarious?:

The VA seems like she's having the time of her life in some of these IMO.

This thread, sadly, is indicative of why the current SAG-AFTRA voiceover strike is likely to fail.

The players just don't care very much.

Can't say I'm much different, though, TBH.

I do hope they succeed. The demands seemed mostly reasonable to me.

Arc Rise Fantasia's dub was game-breakingly bad. It turned what might have been a decent enough game into an unplayable mess.

I have bought every mainline splinter cell game and completed them except the last....played blacklist for about 15 minutes and will never touch it again.

Nope. Even really bad voice acting has it's charm to me.

See the first Bates Kaitos or the infamous example of Arc Rise Fantasia.

There was nothing charming about Baten Kaitos VA. I love the game but the english voice track was like fingernails on a chalkboard.

I can't think of anything specific but those excruciating voiceovers that sound like high voiced ten year olds are part of the reason I've soured on most anime style games over the years. I prefer JRPGs with no voice acting at all.

I do still play anime fighters but probably couldn't use a character that speaks like that as a main.

Mighty No. 9 Voice Acting threw me off completely.
Also I almost skipped the Sly game on Vita because it came with ps+ and would only let me download the german sync. IT WAS HORRIBLE.

Voices were a huge factor in making me quit Xenoblade, Valkyrie Profile, and Star Ocean 2. Those repeated phrases in the battles were so annoying in all 3 of those games. I couldn't stand it.

No but it can severely lessen the experience.
Which is one of the reasons I've always been an opponent of introducing voice acting to Zelda, but fortunately everything we've heard so far sounds alright to me.

Also I have to admit that I'm really tired of hearing Troy Baker and Nolan North in everything.

Waited for a significant price drop for MGS5 due to snakes voice actor. He sounded like a grizzly alcoholic instead of the legendary solider.

By the end, I didn't care so much and...
