I see no reason to upgrade your RAM. You won't see any noticeable increase.pseudocaesar said:I only just built mine a little while back, but I have a better paying job now and little debts.
Here is my current set up.
Phenom II X4 Black
Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P Motherboard
4 GB DDR2 800
Radeon HD4890 1GB
WD Caviar Black 640GB
Antec Two Hundred case
Arctic Cooling Fusion 550R PSU
Main thing I wanna upgrade is my RAM, and the Mobo to go with it as it is DDR2 only. If I get a new mobo, say the Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4, and some 1066 DDR3 ram, will the rest of the computer keep up so to speak? Is anything else glaringly obviously bad?

I saw a screenshot of someones desktop earlier that was using this and it was far more details and less annoying than using Windows Gadgets. Does anyone know the name for this?
Edit: Off topic-ish?

If you're gaming at 1080p, the only thing that is there that could even benefit is the video card which you can try crossfiring or upgrading to a 5870.pseudocaesar said:Fair enough. Its just that perhaps I had too high expectations from it to begin with.

I haven't been in PC Gaming for long enough, but wouldn't they just discontinue them instead? That's seems to be why it's pricey. Lack of stock.Gerald Preston said:Ok, is there any reason why the 4770 is still at a high price? I was hoping these would drop so I could crossfire the one I got back in May but I can't justify paying over $100 for something I paid $85 for even with the improved cooler.
In Canada, Dell usually has frequent sales and coupons so yeah I'd hope you could get it a bit cheaper than that... Seems like a great monitor. I really wish I'd gone with an IPS as well.Fredescu said:Yeah they're ~$800AU. The HP LP2475w is a similar price, but I think I can get discounts on the Dell to bring it down a bit.

Well there was a shortage soon after they were released due to the yields they were getting from the 40nm process but all their other 40nm cards they released seem to be in stock. Would I just be better off getting a 5770 for $160-$170 and pairing it with the 4770 then down the line getting another 5770?

How competent, or usefull, will the following hardware be for Windows gaming:
- 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
- 8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
- 1TB Serial ATA Drive (7200 RPM)
- ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics with 512MB
What can I expect for performance? Will it handle Crysis on medium, or is it a pipedream?

Bump up to a 5770 if its to be used for gaming.

It's obvious I am not going anywhere with my LGA775 board so I need something that's affordable (I don't want to keep burning cash) while delivering the best performance for the price. I'll be using this same case, PSU and GPU, maybe use the same RAM sticks if compatible if not add new ones.

Those are the only 3 AMD processor's GAFers should be considering really. The Athlon X4 620 is worth throwing in if you're either not interested in gaming or want a nice OCing project.

The stock heatsink/fan is trash, gotta get something better before I OC' it. So far im impressed with it for a low price quad core CPU. I would even suggest it over the X3 rana for a low end AMD build since it's only $13 more plus free shipping.
I threw in my old ATI 4870, and a 2gb ram Geil ddr2 800 sitck I had laying around with a 750gb seagate drive. Gets over 14000 in 3dmark2k6, only bench I've really run I literally just put it together a couple days ago.

Rockstar really should ahve explained those sliders better. Its annoying as fuck to know that it would have been received better if they capped it at console quality settings.
