Sexiest map.
You've never seen a globe?
So where are the good maps in high res for a nice print out/wallpaper?

Are educational maps in North-America really like this?
If I'm not mistaken, this kind of map is use in the US to show travel routes. Are educational maps in North-America really like this?
Wow, it really blows that Africa has shitty climates.
it always baffled me that the USA was bigger than Canada in american printed text books.
0° 0°Pretty normal for maps to center on whatever market they're being produced for. Where should it be centered?
The bottom map seems to take the curvature of the Earth into its design, which just makes some shit harder to see.
I don't see a problem with the Mercator map.
How was 0 degrees longitude decided, do you think?0° 0°
How was 0 degrees longitude decided, do you think?
No. The Peters is accurate for relative areas of things, in the same way Mercator is accurate for constant bearings. Africa really is that big relative to everything else.
You have to realize something's wrong with Mercator when you see Greenland is almost the size of Africa.
There is not a map that can show the entire world without any sort of distortion. Just the globes, of course, that's why they are so cool. Mercator always shows Greenland, Canada, Russia and Alaska much much bigger than they really are.
Does it really matter whether the US is in the middle or Australia?Does it matter now?
That is pretty neat.Meh, if you want to compare continent sizes etc., this is pretty much the only way to represent the actual land mass on a 2D plane:
Yea, but remember Alaska.I never knew China was slightly smaller than the US.
Peters Projection flipped is truly the best map.
There is absolutely no reason why the map shouldn't be that way up. It is neither right nor wrong.
This makes Canada look badass. And Russia looks like it owns the world.
It would totally make the song "Land Down Under" make no sense anymore, so thats a pretty big reason.
Bullshit. It's never been that bad.it always baffled me that the USA was bigger than Canada in american printed text books.
Imagine the highways on this:
I wish maps would always include "Here be Dragons" Would make things a lot more fun.
I get a kick out of the maps that have crazy sea monsters roaming around.
Imagine the highways on this:
Thank God US claimed sub saharan africa. I dont like sand.
This is blowing my mind.
Wouldnt the most accurate map be the one that properly depicts total area?

I never knew the map I had been looking at all this time was wholly inaccurate when it came to the actual sizes of the continents and countries.
