IGN: EA says "no one's getting access [to Sims 4] ahead of release" for reviews

Can any more reviewers confirm this?

Hmmm, what strategy is this? Genius! Zero bad reviews on day one.

They can't run all their franchises into the ground, now can they?

Hey now, give them a chance. They're trying their best, wait and see, they'll run those franchises so far down there'll be nothing left but hollow husks.

There's no way this will review well.

It's won't review at all on Day One, son. Remember this day, this is the day the dinosaurs began to go down the path of extinction. Wipe your tears, boy, save it for the dlc.

Hyperbole aside, what's the positive in this or is this just damage control?

I can't get over how fake that racoon or whatever it is looks.

No early reviews, OH NO SUB 8 SCORE

Rocket Raccoon looks amazing if you see the movie not just a gif clip of it. The CGI in Guardians of the Galaxy is really really good.

On Topic: Stay way from Sims 4 and just buy Sims 3 with some Exp packs.

Pretty sure it's a GAF inside joke

OT: Just like SimCity, the creation tools in this game actually seem really great in this game but everything surrounding it looks to be a hot mess. You think they have the apology already written?

Thats what I'm think is going to happen.

The path finding and clipping looks awesome.

Why do people (specially the press) still give a shit about EA and all it's crap? Let it die, FFS...

Any word on what happened during development that explain all the missing/dumbed down features ?
SimCity happened.

For several years The Sims 4 was originally developed as an online game. After the SimCity debacle they had to salvage what they could from this project to make an offline single-player game and still meet the original deadline.

This release is going to be an unmitigated disaster, and personally I don't think even The Sims brand is going to save this one. The failure starts from the very top: They chose to make an online-based Sims game (despite the massive failures of The Sims Online and The Sims Social) instead of iterating on what has been previously successful. EA will no doubt squeeze as much blood from the stone as they possibly can.

On a sidenote, how is Simcity now? Did they fix traffic routing to home and work?

Define "fixed". The aspect of each agent going to the nearest available job, and then returning to the nearest available home is fundamental to the game and can't really be changed.

However, they did implement new traffic algorithms that help the agents take alternate routes when the primary route gets to crowded. The vanilla game is somewhat manageable now, especially with the offline version now available. What is really helping the game nowadays, however, is the modding community which has added such things like freeways, one way streets, on/off ramps, larger city sizes, improved UI, and a bunch of other improvements.

Here is a post I made in the official thread not too long ago that highlights some of these changes. No one replied, though, since most people have given up on the game (and I don't blame 'em)
I've been messing around with mods, and I find myself having a lot of fun with this game again. Here are a few shots from a concept city I had in mind.

The concept: Pack over 700,000 sims into the city, have no mass transit, and keep traffic manageable.

Result: Pretty easy with a few choice mods. One way roads, and highways really help out in this regard. I can add all sorts of outlets for traffic so that the main roads don't get too congested. The regional roads mod helps out a ton too, since I can utilize the space outside of the city box for my road network, and leave more space inside the box for actual buildings.

Here is a bottom section of the city. The basic "neighborhood unit" is one giant one way street loop. It goes from the top of the pic to the bottom. the community college eats up the students, and the workers have lots of space to go to the factories. I've highlighted the tunnel where the road loops around and goes all the way back so that the sims can go home. You can also see the additional elevated highway that I have looping all around the city. It adds yet another path for sims to drive, which eases congestion.

This is the top section, so you can see the residential buildings that the sims came from. You can see each loop feeding back into itself. There are also onramps and offramps that connect each loop to each other seamlessly. Since ramps don't have traffic lights, traffic flows very smoothly between them.

Here is the bottom part of the city again where you can see more of the regional roads that I've put in that adds inlets and outlets from the main regional road. No longer am I bottlenecked by that tiny ass city entrance. I can add more entrances wherever I like.

For funsies, I also added casinos and landmarks to a section of the freeway, which adds even more cars. My layout can handle it with no problem, whereas in vanilla SimCity, this would probably kill your roads.

Everyone gets to work and school on time and then back home. During nighttime, the roads are clear since everyone made it back home very quickly.

Welp, EA has chosen the highway to destruction of an IP :( That was a nice ride, Maxis. Decades of fun with the Sims and SimCity but you are going to achieve an extraordinary exploit of destroying both of your cash cows within 18 months. Bravo :)

people complain about this, but i guarantee many on Gaf will still blindly buy this game. it never fails lol. people bought Sim City day one and then whined when they realized EA fucked them over. its the same story but different year, you'd think people would learn.
