ThatCrazyGuy said:Great trailer!! Man, so good. Next up is a gameplay trailer. But they have my interest now, which was a good trailer is supposed to do.
And why do people say there are too many zombie games? How many are there really? LFD2, Dead Rising? Plus zombie modes in some other games?
I love zombies personally, bring more zombie games!!! I want Zombie street fighter.
dyergram said:Trailer was awesome when did games stop giving a fuck about showing kids die?
kaizoku said:for those moaning about the (awesome) trailer not being indicative of the game, surely we learnt as much from that as we would a stupid hollywood style trailer which shows tiny clips of in game action meshed into one incoherent mess.
What we learnt was the setting, some of the cast, what the zombies were like, how far the game was willing to go, that its going to be brutal and how ambitious it is. In general it just set the tone - which is a darn sight more helpful than say a shot of a melee combo then a shot of jumping over a fence then a shot of opening a door and finishing with a shot of getting killed. All those scenes taken out of context could be in any game ever and leaves you with nothing.

There was that infamous screen from an early version of Fable showing you driving a sword through a kid's head. (Can somebody find this online?)
Prey showed living, non-zombie kids dying in scripted sequences.
Limbo had your silhouette kid character die in various ways: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7z60YyuJsk
Dead Space had baby necromorphs and Dead Space 2 added another 2 varieties of child necromorphs.

But will a first-person melee combat action game with RPG elements really work?
Didn't Dante's Inferno have you fight the souls of aborted fetuses?Anticitizen One said:Doom 3 had you killing babies from what I recall

Archaix said:Did we? I could have sworn we learned nothing at all. We have no reason to assume the game's tone is anything like this trailer, or that it is in any way indicative of what the game will be like. As for learning what the zombies are like, we learned they're fucking zombies. I didn't need a trailer to tell me the zombies in the zombie game act like zombies.
It was well done as a short animated piece using some sort of game art/assets, and it was effective marketing. It isn't informational in the least though.
kaizoku said:I'm gonna repeat myself, we learnt about:
a) location and environments
b) cast
c) hint at a story
d) hint at combat style
e) awesome example of how things go from being in your safehouse to suddenly fucked up. Something no zombie game has ever come close to capturing before.

Fantastic trailer that creates an immense buzz about a game that was all but dead. Game is now on the radar.
All this from a trailer that doesn't even show game footage.... Compare that to all the shitty 10 second 'teaser' trailers that are just the name of the game and a company logo.
If this had been from some big name studio everyone would be jizzing themeselves. Now some people are strangely butthurt that a small outfit outshines the shitty COD etc. reveal trailers.
I don't think they were trying to fool you....-Pyromaniac- said:It's a nice trailer for sure but I won't for one second act like I'm fooled by it. Gameplay or bizzzust.
is disappointing.Special zombies, such as this straightjacket-wearing tank, will be a lot tougher to take down.
J-Rzez said:That's in your opinion that it was "a great trailer", no humanity on anyone' s part.

Mank said:Ughhhh. So, so, so very forced "artsy/sad" trailer. That so many of you are eating this crap up is kind of annoying. Ok trailer maybe. "Artistic godsend best trailer ever" because they point in a sad song and showed a dead child boohoo, bleh.
Maybe if it wasn't so hyped I wouldn't be so annoyed...
I'm... assuming this is a retort disagreeing with me, but I'm not quite sure how it's supposed to make any sense.WanderingWind said:Yeah, right back at ya.

Fine, so I don't come off as a "pro troll," how about this: the trailer was clearly gunning on a strong emotional reaction. It's a shame that they simply decided to do this in such a blatant and forced way, by going with "it's sad because it's a little girl" as the crux instead of something with actual meat to it, and slapping a sad song over-top of things. Add in a backwards-play "gimmick" that doesn't really seem to contribute in any meaningful way, outside of making a few parts of the trailer look unintentionally silly (though that may be the fault of the animation not the effect) and it just seems like it's trying too hard to be "artsy." Add in a little bit of awkward animation/modeling here and there, and I can't help but feel disappointed in something that everybody was claiming to be some sort of masterpiece.Twig said:I'm... assuming this is supposed to be a criticism, but I'm not quite sure how it's supposed to make any sense.
Haha I just noticed you have a FLCL avatar. Pro troll. :3
Techland is not known for quality, hell, I even beta tested one of their games and they couldn't even afford to host the files.disappeared said:Yes, god forbid a game from a foreign and nearly-unknown developer gets any sort of attention.

Perhaps my tone was a little over the top in the last post as I had just had a bit of an argument on the subject in real life, but I still hold that this trailer really doesn't deserve the praise that it is receiving.
Heh. They used to have a place in legitimate debate, but they have so much baggage these days that it's nearly impossible to take seriously any argument based upon them.Zeliard said:The words elitist, pretentious and artsy should be stricken from the English vocabulary.
