I recall Bayonetta be blasted by a few poster for its content as well, so I wonder if that was for the same reason as this or for some entirely different reason. Also, I'm aware that this isn't one of those "GAF hivemind" things, since that is a completely absurd construct.

I certainly agree that objectification is a substantial part of games that are targeted at the otaku market, but I'd argue that when a game panders to an extremely specific niche, it can be of lower quality precisely because it panders. That's not an excuse for this game, but a theoretical reason for the existence of its contents. In a shrinking market like the Japanese one, developers really need any advantage they can get. Unfortunately, I think you're exactly right for reading the sexual content in this game as an indicator of low quality. I hope I'm wrong and the game is fucking awesome because I want every game to be fucking awesome, but we'll see.

Also, back to objectification: are you as disgusted when other mediums resort to objectification, like movies and pornography, or do games stand out as especially egregious?

It's probably fair to say that it depends on the game. Most sports games would appear to have a lot less objectification than the sport itself has - see American Football vs Madden, Basketball vs NBA Elite. Most big budget blockbuster shooters have less female objectification (if they have females at all thanks to COD domination) than big budget summer blockbusters.

On the other hand, there are games like this.

I guess you can say that at least the characters aren't wearing high heels or hookerboots. Seriously look at how many female characters wear one or the other these days.

and it just so happens she is the psycho-les. I like her design out of all the characters. though they all have something appealing. the hair is (oddly enough) the most common aspect.

Would the reaction be different if the game was extremely good but still "disgusting" or "embarrassing" in its sexuality, or do those concerns trump the actual quality of the game? I'm just curious if this is a case of games conditioning people into thinking that sexual content in games is terrible, like the terrifyingly bad sex scenes in Heavy Rain and Bioware games, or if this is a cultural thing, like some have mentioned it not having a chance for localization, or if it is something else entirely, like a complete ambivalence or disgust towards obviously otaku-aimed,pandering goods.

The reaction to threads like this has nothing to do with the artstyle, and everything to do with the fact that most of them are blatantly exploitative and/or pedophilic in nature. You don't see these kinds of reactions in SRW threads for example.
