That pic was meant to be used in forums, it was all planned.

Actually, only a few guys have expressed their disgust here, the rest of us want this.nckillthegrimace said:Maybe "uproar" was the wrong word. The reaction is pretty negative, though. I apologize if I came off like I was ranting, but I'm genuinely curious about the reaction as it doesn't seem to be based on the quality of the game but because of its sexual content. I recall Bayonetta be blasted by a few poster for its content as well, so I wonder if that was for the same reason as this or for some entirely different reason. Also, I'm aware that this isn't one of those "GAF hivemind" things, since that is a completely absurd construct.
There is nothing wrong with erotic imagery in games. This game, however, isn't erotic. It's just a childish way of portraying women as mere tools of sex fantasies with enormous boobs. Okay, women is the wrong word. The characters in this game are actually school girls.nckillthegrimace said:I'm surprised at the extreme negative reaction that a seemingly large portion of GAF has at "erotic" imagery in games.
That style in Japan has long passed, good sir. Bow down to your new moe blob overlords.StickSoldier said:Why can't they look older, like the girl off of Ninja Scroll?

Heh, there will always be a next time. As long as there is a Japan, there will always be next time.AzureJericho said:It's funny how such a weird (re: batshit insane) premise could have been worth it slightly for the novelty were it not for the really really boring art style they used. Ah well.

It's probably fair to say that it depends on the game. Most sports games would appear to have a lot less objectification than the sport itself has - see American Football vs Madden, Basketball vs NBA Elite. Most big budget blockbuster shooters have less female objectification (if they have females at all thanks to COD domination) than big budget summer blockbusters.nckillthegrimace said:I certainly agree that objectification is a substantial part of games that are targeted at the otaku market, but I'd argue that when a game panders to an extremely specific niche, it can be of lower quality precisely because it panders. That's not an excuse for this game, but a theoretical reason for the existence of its contents. In a shrinking market like the Japanese one, developers really need any advantage they can get. Unfortunately, I think you're exactly right for reading the sexual content in this game as an indicator of low quality. I hope I'm wrong and the game is fucking awesome because I want every game to be fucking awesome, but we'll see.
Also, back to objectification: are you as disgusted when other mediums resort to objectification, like movies and pornography, or do games stand out as especially egregious?

Huh what? No they don't. This game may be juvenile and exploitative and they are indeed supposed to be schoolgirls, but their bodies are completely mature.Neiteio said:Hmm, these girls look like they're 11.

Are you saying all anime faces look ten years old?StickSoldier said:Yeah, but with the anime face of 10 year old. I really dislike the way their faces are, but I guess I'm like the old grumpy guy who's upset with changes. I'd much prefer them to actually look older in the face, but I guess it doesn't really matter what I want, lol.

nckillthegrimace said:I'm surprised at the extreme negative reaction that a seemingly large portion of GAF has at "erotic" imagery in games. Does the same uproar occur when something extremely violent happens in games, or does this outrage only happen when a game plays around in the sexual space, even in an obviously playful, cheesecake manner? Would the reaction be different if the game was extremely good but still "disgusting" or "embarrassing" in its sexuality, or do those concerns trump the actual quality of the game? I'm just curious if this is a case of games conditioning people into thinking that sexual content in games is terrible, like the terrifyingly bad sex scenes in Heavy Rain and Bioware games, or if this is a cultural thing, like some have mentioned it not having a chance for localization, or if it is something else entirely, like a complete ambivalence or disgust towards obviously otaku-aimed,pandering goods.
People already forgot the "Naughty Edition" of Record of Agarest Warmeltingparappa said:Blonde girl's boots look like they were forged from "jrpg final boss-ium".
So, Nippon Ichi didn't back down from localizing a game with the name "Dawn of Operation Panties Dood". Is it really inconceivable that someone would dare localize this? There has got to be a guaranteed minimum sales rate for the sheer novelty.
JustAnotherOtaku said:GAF + anime does not mix. Have a look at any thread about a game involving anime girls in states of undress, especially those with 'icecream' anywhere in the title. Remember this and learn to ignore it and you will be fine.
lol, I know, right?meltingparappa said:Blonde girl's boots look like they were forged from "jrpg final boss-ium".

They're not real, nothing to feel conflicted about.Neiteio said:Hmm, these girls look like they're 11.
But still. Blonde. Boobs. Inner side boobs, to boot.
I'm conflicted.
