My take on jun-aug releases

>60k LTD

3DS

Tales of the Abyss
StarFox
Pokemon Scramble

PSP

Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2011
Taiko no Tatsujin Portable DX
Sengoku Basara: Chronicle Heroes
Queen's Gate: Spiral Chaos
J-League Pro Soccer Club o Tsukurou! 7 Euro Plus
MonHun Nikki: Poka Poka Ailu Mura G
Black * Rock Shooter: The Game
Mobile Suit Gundam: New Gihren's Ambition

None of these will be big games (>250k LTD) with the exception of maybe MonHun Nikki.

From the list of games announced, 3DS won't have a big game until Kid Icarus (maybe) or Mario Kart and FF Type-0 will be the last big psp release unless Capcom decides to make MHP3G.

EDIT

Well, there's still that AKB48 dating sim in October.

How can you forget AO NO KISEKI?? 100k+ seller for sure. And PhotoKano and Hatsune Miku 2.5

What caused the Wii boost? It also seems like the PS3 won't get a boost no matter what new games come out. It needs a price drop.

I was kind of expecting zelda to hold up a bit better because of the high sellthough rate and the reported sell outs last weeks. What's the status now? Has it been restocked everywhere or are there still any shortages, or were the shortages exaggerated in the first place?

I just love the success Gust is having with the Arland series. While some larger developers whined about HD towns or retreated to handhelds they did exactly the right thing: take an existing, free, capable engine and make a game with mid-tier assets and good image quality using it. They focused on their strengths (the alchemy system, 2d art, music and uncharacteristically -- for JPRGs -- nonlinear gameplay) and continued to improve on their foundation and the sales show that their effort paid off.

Yep they done really well this gen .
They say there making games for ps3 have done so at a good rate and they are getting good sales.

even if we add that girl moon priestess fighting girls to 3DS list, I can't see it selling more than PSP for more than few weeks till November. It not only lack of games to play now, it even lacks new releases. Partly to blame being released too soon, I think DS is getting better games till then.

Maybe in 2007, but PS2 has been selling next to nothing in Japan for a long time at this point.

The fourth Dept. Heaven installment was Gungnir. This is "just" another Union spin-off.
What? Really? I thought The Gugnir one was the Spin-off game...

Maybe Sting are the ones that killed the series legs.

Ooh, mixing apples and oranges (Famitsu with Media Create) but Meruru beated those PS1 Ateliers opening:

[PS3] Atelier Meruru: The Alchemist of Arland 3 (Gust) {2011.06.23} - 82,585 / NEW
[PS1] Atelier Marie: The Alchemist of Salburg (Gust) {1997.05.23} - 80.354 / 212.307
[PS1] Atelier Elie: The Alchemist of Salburg 2 (Gust) {1998.12.17} - 80.118 / 161.351
[PS3] Atelier Totori: The Alchemist of Arland 2 (Gust) {2010.06.24} - 72.836 / 91.826

Won't beat those Salburg LTDs though.

Also...poor 360, just about when we can say it had a hit last week with the Steins;Gate sequel, it gets steamrolled by PSP with a 6000/8200Y port of the first game that just last week was released at budget price for 360 (and in a bundle with the sequel). Amagami and Steins;Gate ports have certainly done great on PSP lately...

Oh, about predictions, fuck me and my kindness. I'm going to go berserk with anyone missing deadline after this week outcome (will post results later today).

Why even post if you have nothing worthwhile to add? What you said is downright rude and unnecessary. Sure, Chris' post have more additional stuff, but in the end there's only one thing that matters: the numbers.

Whether or not they are posted by him, Takao or anyone else isn't of importance.

Just 2, last week 360 saw the sequel, the budget release of the original and a bundle of both. This week PSP got a port of the original.

Will be interesting to see how Zelda holds up from here. It's one of those games where a new system owner will want to buy, but by then they'll probably be buying used copies instead.

Thanks for posting Takao.

It's got nothing to do with him. It's just something I've been used to. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Come back in 5 years with that same argument.

For now, the 3DS, which has a much higher price tag than the PSP with two other product lines competing for its handheld space, is chugging along just fine. Once those other handhelds taper off, you will see the appropriate 3DS price drop.

The 3DS is doing just fine.

I wonder how Atlus's Atelier-like DS game (Nora and the Time Studio) will do.
The Atelier games haven't been too hot on DS, but that was before they got really big with the PS3 games. It's also from the Etrian Odyssey team, so that might help it as well.

3DS dropped below PSP AGAIN???
Not really a big deal. For awhile, the PS2 outsold the 360, but that didn't really mean much in the long run. The 360 ended up being pretty damn popular and successful in terms of Microsoft earning more marketshare and brand loyalty.
The 3ds will be fine in the long run, it's not super important it outsells the PSP.

Not in the slightest. You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but I just hope that Nintendo doesn't think the same thing.

*shudders at the thought of Nintendo thinking the Wii is doing just fine*

Pokemon Black/White, dem legs.

3DS back to where (imo) it belongs. Hopefully things change when compelling software comes out, but until then...

I was going to say I was surprised people are still buying PSP games at retail in Japan, but then I realized PlayStation Network has been down for them since the unveiling of the Vita.

Takao doesn't have experience with the creation of Media Create threads, he does his best, stop complaining all the time.

Until October, when we have Winter time again, there are 50-50 chances I'll be online when 4Gamer updates.

I have Famitsu top 1000 translated since last Monday but the database is under major changes, and unfortunately I can't give an update until they are finished. It will take some more months but you'll see that the wait was for a good reason when the update comes out.

Never doubt the trainwreck of dying consoles, indifferent public, and artsy-looking titles. :/

Too many dead, dying, and irrelevant Japanese consoles and portables. Can't wait to see the market come back in a big way under PSVita.

Predicting PSVita is the Japanese sales powerhouse of this era now.

You say that as if the Vita is some magical machine that will sell just because.

It's not and it won't.

Someone needs to heavily invest in the Japanese market again, this status quo is such a mess and with Vita I fear that COD and Need for Speed ports will be more important to Sony than their usual Japanese third party output. Just looking at the first party games(Uncharted, WipeOut etc.) you know it's going to sell fuck all in Japan. Maybe Nintendo can turn things around with the Wii U console/portable hybrid but at this point I highly doubt it.

Square Enix totally fucked up too there's no 3DS support from them at all so far. Even though the PSP is 'winning' that number is still quite low.
