Media Create Sales: Week 33, 2011 (Aug 15 - Aug 21)

A handheld getting a boost in sales after a huge pricedrop so close after launch doesn't really come off a surprise to me...

Nintendo can impress me after retaining this succes without releasing more games within the next few months.

Hahaha, Nano Diver is going to be so bad. I read some 2ch summaries of the review and apparently not only are the controls clunky, dodging in that game doesn't give you invincibility frames. It's like they're a cargo cult trying to emulate GEB/MH without understanding the underlying gameplay behind them.

I had no idea that Rhythm Heaven was that popular in Japan. Selling so well.
The first was one of the last fair successes on GBA--up there with Final Fantasy V & VI and Mother 3 in 2006. The second was a DS game which got pretty near 2 million.

Good second week for 3DS, weak PS3 bump though.

Neo Geo.

Which they'll have to do, considering there isn't really anything until Super Mario 3D Land.

Senran Kagura will save the 3DS :p

18256 bundled, 2713 standalone.

Oh ok, that explains the pretty constant number it's been selling then.

NeoGeo was iirc. It's price actually went up too with the CD systems.

edit: damn it BKK! Outta my head! :3

Let's just say that *atm* it looks like people itt calling the 3DS price drop almost futile with no big games to give enough reasons to buy the system were definitely WRONG.
No, we are not wrong. More quality games and releases, more sales.

Could have sold way more. Software drought is coming (actually, it's already here) and PSP is about to eclypse 3DS yet again.

*waits for Chris to post the list of upcoming games*

Could have sold way more? After the price drop? Uhm... no. Not really.

3DS's performance during and after the week of the price drop were great and better than most people expected. That it stayed above 100k for another week is a really nice achievement that many people (me included) doubted. Saying that it could have done way better during this time is just wrong. The price drop fared great and there's absolutely no reason to say the opposite.

However, the question is how long the effect of the price drop lasts and at which number 3DS sales will stabilize. Considering that the line-up of upcoming games in the next weeks, even months, is pretty grim it's a very realistic possibility that 3DS's sales will be stabilizing at a not-so-great level in some weeks time. There's nothing that Nintendo can do about that, though. If the announcements made on September 13th are good the reputation of the 3DS might rise again, which won't help weekly sales much, but will build up some new confidence in the plattform. That has to be enough until Mario Kart / Mario Land hits.

Zelda is cruisin thanks to the price drop. With only so many quality 3DS games to buy for the next few months I wouldn't be surprised to see it stick around in the top 20 for quite a while.

Not sure what the the original AES was selling for in 1995, but it was certainly more than $200/¥20.000.
Not sure about Japan, but US AES was down to like $199 or something when Samurai Showdown II released. I remember because I looked into getting one and the system was less than the game (lol).

But Zelda is not alone!

07./06. [3DS] The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D | ACT | (Nintendo) {2011.06.16} | ¥4.800 | - 21.465 / 335.540 (-32%)

Just look at how little has been the drop for both of them...especially much lower than the 46% drop of 3DS.

Funny that N+Cats still have to reach the first month of sales of the first one... But overall it will do fine, the original on DS sold 2 million units which is great but nothing compared to what has done in the rest of the world, and smaller than other successful titles as Animal Crossing and Brain Age. A million copies is a certain mark for this pet simulator on 3DS.

I really can't remember, it must've been in mid 95 though since I'd just gotten a Saturn. I just remember the game costing more than systems in shops.

Super Mario 3D Land

To bet against those two games pushing hardware in crazy numbers in the holiday season is like betting against the sun will rise from the east in December.

Yeah.I wouldn't bet against Nintendo in the handheld market as long as Big N continues to create million sellers out of thin air.

The ps3 price drop is kind of a failure.... I expected 40k for the PS3 :/
It was a sudden price cut,so consumers were caught off guard. They didn't have time to react and delay the purchase of the console, thus PS3 sales didn't sink ahead of price cut, and therefore PS3 sales are not artificially inflated.
PS3
20,704--> 18,338-->20,239-->29,666

3DS
31,826--> 16,415--> 4,132-->196,077

On top of that,it's quite possible that there was a lack of awareness among consumers, and that's why PS3 sales are not going to decline in the coming week (Well,MH will help a little bit,but anyway it is not going to be huge.)

[Nintex] said:
Sony kinda messed up with that one the drop isn't big enough. Drop $100 or go for bundles, $50 is more like a regular retailer promotion/deal than an actual pricedrop that could fuel sales.
-This is going to be one of the worst weeks until Feb

-¥20,000 – 25,000 are the mass-market price points in Japan for home consoles. There is one exception though: The mighty PS2

-The PS3 has just reached one of the sweet spots

-Third parties are ready to unload their stuff

-This combination will work well, and retail sales will grow in Japan during this fiscal year. PS3 sales will probably be around 1.7-2.0 million units.(PS3 retail sales in FY 2010:1.54 million units)

3DS software will be in the shitter as long as it doesn't exist.

I will say it the way I think it is.

Of all nintendo consoles, 3DS has received the biggest backstabbing middle finger ever from 3rd parties. There were always excuses (even kind of understandable) to not support nintendo consoles from the get go.

"Sorry, we are already too busy doing PS2 games (gamecube)",
"Sorry, your console has no decent online and graphics (wii)"
"Sorry, 2 screens? weird I am not sure that will take off (DS around launch, it eventually got 3rd party support after a year or two)"

but with the 3ds? Nintendo left the succesor to the most successful console ever unprotected with a poor first party schedule release so 3rd parties would step up and get the spotlight, not only there hasn't being much on the 3rd party front in the console's 5 or 6 months of existence but announcements are few and scarce. Now the console is tainted and labeled as with "no games.

I am yet to see anything from square-enix on 3DS that is worth my time. I am yet to see anything from Konami on 3DS that is worth my time. For all the right things Capcom is doing with resident evil: revelations, they fuck it up with megaman legends. The west has ignored the 3DS like they have done with every single handheld in the past.

In the last few days I've seen more interest (as in honest investments in form of game announcements, not hollow E3 bullshit) for the PSVita from third parties that I have ever seen for 3DS.

In short: yet another nintendo console dead by lack of support, only this time was from the get go instead of the typical "oh is nintendo, we'll wait and see (lol)".

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Its Nintendos own faullt they overpriced theit hardware and thought they wer invincible. They knew which project 3rd partys had announced and were workin on and expected the system to sell with THAT launch period lineup for 250 bucks.... lol.

Im so happy that they shlashed the price before the holiday season, otherwise this could have been a disaster. Right now it doesnt look great....but once the 2nd Gen titles hit and they put out their 3ds revision i dont think many people will think of its pathetic launch.

Since when SE and Co. are ready to release their big titles 3-4 months after the release of a plattform ? Games like Revelations or Kingdom Hearts were never expected to hit at launch - at least i didnt expect them to.

too limited I was hoping it was much more open to everyone but sold by raffle on a website ouch

DSi XL went from 30k to 41k (MC data) the week Love Plus+ was launched along the "limited" bundles.

I didn't expect that either, I am talking about announcements and the future here.

if the promise of a bright 3DS future consists only of RE:R and KH:DDD then the handheld is fucked as it can be regarding support.

Nintendo will save it as usual, I am not talking about the death of the 3DS because of 3rd parties. It's just that they will miss the boat as usual, nothing new here actually.

To bet against those two games pushing hardware in crazy numbers in the holiday season is like betting against the sun will rise from the east in December.
It is not about betting against it, it is a question if it will move about 1.7 million 3DS units in the last 4 weeks of 2011 :)

Those were just two examples, but it isnt realistic to expect 3rd party to put all their egg in one basket when the 3DS userbase is so small and there are better options avaiable(PSP).

3DS will be just fine once Nintendos First Party title have broaden the market 3rd Partys will announce more titles, the time between announcment is getting smaller and smaller especially for handheld titles. Things could already look different 2-3 weeks from now.

I found it weird that people are so quick to write off a plattform, 3DS hasnt even had 1 holiday season but people see it als the virtual boy 2.

Let's just wait what games will be announced at the September 13th event, before we are discussing about the future line-up of the 3DS, kay?
