Media Create Sales: Week 52, 2012 (Dec 24 - Dec 30)

It's a salute to the (probable) last entry for a GBA game in the Top 1000.

Overall Software
(system - total sales - # of games)

1. PSP - 13,781,228 - 275
2. PS3 - 11,999,888 - 230
3. WII - 8,778,813 - 97
4. NDS - 7,288,899 - 181
5. 3DS - 7,088,267 - 75
6. 360 - 1,246,675 - 112
7. PSV - 387,688 - 16
8. PS2 - 150,530 - 12
9. GBA - 15,763 - 2

What?. PSP and PS3 were the platforms with more units of software sold in 2012?.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Seriously, what happened to Vita, why did it rise so much. Any explanation?

I've been saying people are calling the WiiU in trouble too early.

No longer too early. Go ahead.

Nice sales for NSMBU though.

I agree, this is (to me) the first bad week for Wii U. So, it begins (cit.)

Fantasy Life supply-constrained?

Could it be due to the high (if I remember correctly) ST % at launch? I don't know if there was another shipment during the week.

Can't wait for the interpretation of those 30.000 Vitas that have been sold

"Japan finally welcomes its new handheld overlord"

Bad Wii U numbers. Wtf Vita numbers. Not good numbers by any stretch, but just kind of weird. Was there a promotion or something?

first week of the year confirmed to be positive all around the board for Sony hardware (at least that was always my impression).

This is also my impression. Anyone could confirm this?

Above, if correct. Usually Sony's platforms see good sales in the first week of the new year, probably thanks to new year's eve "money-gift" received for the holidays

True, but this is by far Vita's best holiday week by far.

Actually 30k is a good number, isn't it? Considering there were no new releases this week for Vita and no game in the top 30...

Unless we're going to start using qualifiers like "for Vita" than 30k is by no means good in any sense for a holiday week.

Mario Kart 7 in top 10 for Famitsu, wow. Paper Mario will do 500k for sure in the end.

Yes, could be that those "money-gifts" are better spent on a new expensive system rather than an old cheaper one (PSP)?

To me yes it is, for a console that was doing lower numbers on the previous weeks of the holidays. It testifies also that there could be interest in the product, in Japan, probably

Yes, of course.

The recent Soul sacrifice and tales of hearts demos may have generated some good word of mouth for the system, maybe the final fantasy ps1 half off sale during the week helped too?

Decent, but do we expect it to remain?

No, but it is showing there is some potential in the platform, because really, for what was it selling? Most likely just the nice hardware itself and some mildly interesting games.

WOW.

Wii U sold poorly, the only system that sold less than last week.
Good that NSMBU and Nintendoland are having good sales.
NSMBU have such an amazing attach rate!

30k was still pretty bad, it's the numbers the 3DS was pulling in the middle of the year before the price cut. If it stays at 30k sure it may do ok, but the chances of it happening are slim and it's getting new year boost. It's basically like time it did 30k with persona/akb, unless something changes it far from sustainable.

Clueless kids bought Vita with their New Year's money thinking it was PSP? The only explanation I have.
I mentioned this earlier in the thread - but while I was in Japan over New Years I've seen Softmap running some deals on PS3/3DS/Vita for Jan 1st (17.800 yen for Vita, with added "goodie bag"), so if this was nation wide and perhaps other retailers followed suit, it could explain a bump.

What games did people actually buy with this vita increase?

I think the amount of games sold is the real success story for the 3DS!!

Eh, I doubt the Japanese PS+ lineup will have huge numbers subscribers lining up. I do wonder how Vita downloads are doing in Japan... The difference between the tracker numbers for Persona 4 Golden (193,412) and Atlus/Index official reported sales figures (260,000) were considerable, but it's hard to know if that was an aberration.

Sales should be spread among the existing library with no single title making the charts. Similar phenomenon was evident after the 3DS price drop with hardware sales surging but little rises on software sales.

There's also digital sales and used ones of course, bringing down the tracked retail sales somewhat as well.
