MLB '12-'13 OffSeason OT: Magic is the New Market Inefficiency

Caribbean World Series starts today if anyone needs their baseball fix pronto. New stadium hosting the games. Ur goin down Heart Attack and Fenix!!

lol. not happening. Mexico is winning it because the other team's do not take it that seriously. Also, as much as i hate the Yaquis who beat my home team, they have amazing starting pitching and great defense.

Kevin Millwood has announced his retirement from baseball. He finishes up at age 38 with 169 career victories and 2,083 career strikeouts over 16 seasons with the Braves, Phillies, Indians, Rangers, Orioles, Rockies, and Mariners.

Going into the offseason, Millwood told his agent, Scott Boras, that he was only interested in accepting deals with the Braves or Rays, the two teams closest to his home in Gainesville, GA. Neither team expressed interest, so he called it a career.

After graduating from Bessemer City High School in Bessemer City, North Carolina, he was an 11th round draft pick (320th overall) by the Braves in the 1993 MLB Draft.

His finest season statistically came in 1999 with the Braves, going 18-7 with a 2.68 ERA, finishing third in NL Cy Young voting, behind winner Randy Johnson (Diamondbacks) and first-runner-up Mike Hampton (Astros). It was his only season with over 200 strikeouts (205). He also recorded a WHIP of 0.996. It was his heaviest career workload, pitching a total of 269.1 innings (228 regular season innings, 41.1 postseason innings). 1999 was also Millwood's lone career All-Star appearance. fWAR has him at a 5.7 WAR for 1999.

Millwood pitched in four career postseasons, all with the Braves from 1999-2002. He was 3-3 with a 3.92 ERA in 9 postseason appearances (7 starts, 2 relief appearances).

Millwood pitched a no-hitter with the Phillies on April 27, 2003 against the Giants. He also participated in a combined no-hitter on June 8, 2012 with the Mariners against the Dodgers. After throwing 6 hitless innings, Millwood was forced to leave the game with a groin injury. The Mariners bullpen finished it off with 3 hitless innings.

Baseball-Reference estimates Millwood made a total of $90 million over his 16-season career.

California Institute of Technology's baseball team ended a 228-game losing streak Saturday with a 9-7 victory over Pacifica - the Beavers' first win in nearly 10 years.

HAVE IT ROUGH?
Here's some big-time major sports losing streaks.
After dropping the first game of its season-opening doubleheader 5-0, Caltech won the second behind a complete-game seven-inning effort by freshman Daniel Chou. Caltech hadn't won since Feb. 15, 2003.

''It was almost as if they had been there before,'' first-year coach Matthew Mark said.

It was a non-conference game, though, and Caltech, mainly a Division III participant, has not won a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest since 1988 - a span of 463 games.

Caltech's men's basketball team ended a 310-game conference losing streak in 2011, while the women's volleyball team ended a 56-match losing streak last year.

Jesus christ their sports teams suck dick.

The Pirates will continue to find new ways to crush their fans' dreams of a winning season. In fact, I predict they will be more games over .500 than there are left to play, and then will somehow lose games retroactively.
