bish gets all the credit :)
All it would take is Honda refusing to fight. She doesn't have one of those special deals with Reebok, does she?

How does the Expo work when fighters can't have other sponsors? Lol

This has been one of the fun questions for me too.
No clue if those have been making enough money or maybe had dwindling numbers.

Another thing that looks like the UFC is only interested in burning the ground to get a quick buck, zero long term ideas.

Dana would simp hard if she did that.

Shit will hit the fan once the deal actually kicks in. Schaub was on JRE a couple weeks ago saying how it might be good long term for a lot of people and that he may be in the minority of fighters who're losing money. Meanwhile Benavidez says its great for him but for every one fighter who says its a good deal there's ten who're saying its bullshit, Aldo being among them. I don't see this this thing lasting more than a year without some large scale revolt. I mean you already got TJ Grant coal mining and Young Melvin working security and that was WITH sponsors and 6k6k.

I remember Baszler on TUF acting like she was the biggest badass in the world, only to get completely embarrassed in her first fight on the show. Her two fights in the UFC afterwards were just as bad--she gases as fast as a heavyweight. She also got TKO'd by a leg kick a couple minutes into one of her fights.

Thats what I predicted. Baszler is so weak I actually said "Shes gonna fall" out loud in front of my monitor. That other anorexic girl is just as bad.

Watch a live stream of today’s press conference about the UFC’s new drug-testing program on MMAjunkie beginning at 2 p.m. ET (11 a.m. PT).

The media event takes place at Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa in Las Vegas. Scheduled to attend are UFC Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta, UFC President Dana White, UFC Chief Operating Officer Lawrence Epstein, and UFC Vice President of Athlete Health and Performance Jeff Novitzky.

The officials will unveil details about the company’s recently announced “Athlete Marketing and Development Program” (formerly known as the “Athlete Health and Performance Program). The initiative is expected to include expanded drug testing, as well as other programs geared toward health, rehabilitation and career services.

This turned out to be a pretty big deal (Ariel Helwani's twitter has a good recap: https://twitter.com/arielhelwani ) - Probably new thread-worthy once a good article goes up.

This is the big one, the UFC's drug testing arm is going to be completely independent.

Recreational drugs too, although it should be virtually impossible to be banned for coke or weed:

They're also going to be able to administer a huge volume of tests!!

Their biggest hurdle was cost. It cost approx. 45k to test an athlete. I'm not sure how many tests that entails, as the cost was given "per fight" and if an athlete fights twice a year that means 90k. The UFC wants to test each athlete in and out of competition, so 5.5 tests a year.

The number of tests required to test every athlete, randomly, year round meant costs potentially way over 100 million under the old "45k per fight" cost plus additional "out of comp" tests. So the UFC getting some kind of deal with the USADA is huuuge.

This is a red flag for me:

Failure to properly notify USADA or miss a drug test altogether constitutes a strike against a fighter. Three strikes in a year is the equivalent of a failed drug test.

So you can pull a Wand three times a year? Their locations are being tracked by an app on the phones.

Also...lol:

A "whistleblower" line will be made available to fighters.

Dana said they are looking at Gus va DC. I'm so happy they aren't doing that damn Bader match up. I hate how those 2 set that one up.

He also said Weidman vs Rockhold next.

I'm joining the team. The Luke Rockhold team. Does it have something to do with the fact that Rockhold trains in my city? Yeah, maybe so. But I don't care, I think he's gonna win. Unless Weidman comes out with some crazy spinning back heel or something...

Only in the UFC where a guy gets destroyed in the first round and his next fight is for the title. Makes total sense.
I love shitting on the UFC, but look at the LHW division. They have pretty much no good options. Ryan Bader is a complete can and is ranked #3, Evans hasn't fought for 2 years and is #4, Shogun and Jackson are also somehow in the top 10...Division straight up has no young and upcoming talent, and the current top 10 is full of cans and/or fighters way past their prime.

UFC probably is smart enough to realize that Cormier vs Bader would maybe draw even worse than a DJ fight.

Gustaffson got destroyed by Rumble, but unlike Rumble he won't gas against Cormier in 2 minutes. I expect Cormier to wrestlefuck him to death anyway, but it could be a decent fight. Gustaffson managed to stop Jones takedown attempts (he has way better TDD than Rumble). If he manages to keep it standing for most of the fight, who knows, maybe he could get an upset.

You know what would be more worse? Watching Bader get a title shot. Or Rashad. Or any other bum in the top 10.

Besides, won't matter, Jones will be back to fuck everybody up early next year. No way he will do jail time.

DC Vs Gus is official, date and venue TBD.
Yup, LHW division is on life support.

I'd wager that Jon Jones outright discouraged new talent in that division given his dominance these past four years. Everyone dropped down or moved on rather than take him on. Let's face it, Ryan Bader is next after Gus. They can't ignore the guy with the best win streak in that division forever.

Ryan Bader is a scrub, no amount of wolf tickets is going to let me see him in a title fight and not laugh hysterically

Lol I still love the phrase "wolf tickets". That's a Diaz special right? Is it a legit phrase or is it something he came up with while stoned in Lodi?

Maybe if you joined nerd chat more than twice a year you'd be up on the terminology yo.
I really should - those chats are a good time. Any events coming up where body parts might get glued together or trash bags are being used to cover the floor of the ring?
