I went and saw Safe House last night. Denzel was great as always, Ryan Reynolds was ok, the plot was entertaining if a bit predictable, but I'm tired of the handheld camera approach that's apparently become popular since the second and third Bourne films. I don't like sitting in the theater with my head cocked to one side being held up by my arm to prevent myself from getting a migraine. I'm tired of the rapid editing of shots that leads me to not having a clue what's going on or who's who in a fistfight. What does this contribute to the film? There are ways the director and cinematographer can contribute to the mood of a film without being completely obnoxious. I mean when you have a closeup of someone during some dialogue and you realize the camera is still panning in small circles, it makes me want to throw my hands up in the air and go "why?" Definitely would've enjoyed this more without this kind of crap.

I watched Die Hard last week for the first time and really enjoyed it. I tried to watch Die Hard 2 last night and stopped half way through, what a piece of shit.
I need to watch Die Hard... The last two Bruce Willis movies I saw were Tears of the Sun and The Fifth Element. Boring and fun, respectively.

DH2 is a poor copy of DH1, DHw/Vengeance is more original, has Samuel L. Jackson, and Jeremy Irons playing
Hans Gruber's brother
Simon. Y'all be tripping if you actually think DH2 is the better movie.

It's definitely decent, as in, not terrible; it just feels like a segment of a larger movie with no real satisfying arc or conclusion.

I'd go with Shame
since Steve McQueen is a better filmmaker than latter-day Scorsese.
No need to spoiler tag the truth

To be clear, I have not bothered to watch the 4th one.

2 is a fine movie, but it is redundant.
I haven't seen the dh3 yet, but I've never understood the derision for 2. It's by no means great like the first, but it's a mediocre facsimile. why does that attract so much hate?
dh4 deserves it.

Watched Spork on Netflix last night.

It was a fun and quirky little movie. I very highly recommend it.

I don't even understand the complaint that it's a facsimile of the first? How so more than 100 other action movies? Cause they both have terrorists? Cause they both predominantly take place in one main location? Cause they both have action?

And DH4's hate is over the top, and mainly leveled at two scenes in particular; the car-into-the-helicopter absurdity, and the damn VTOL jet. Take those out, and you've got a solid action flick with equal levels of over-the-top action of the first three, with BW being awesome and a solid villian. If anything, I liked Olyphant's more original-ish villian. More reminiscent of Hans Gruber, a kind-of-but-not-really tough guy who's more smart than anything.

... how does this happen?

while die hard 2 isn't as good as the first and the third, it's still very fun and watchable.

1 > 3 > 2 > 4. duh.

I heard the ending was really bad and that it was very abrupt. Any true?

The only reason why I haven't seen it is because apparently there is no wolf-punching. I'm serious. I'll rent it to see it for the existential survivalist stuff, but not worth going to the cinema.

Regarding The Grey, I thought the ending was built up nicely and was perfect for the movie. I didn't see too much of the marketing going in though.
I would say it's definetely going to see in the cinema. I plan on seeing it again for the soundtrack alone. Go when it's cheap if you have to. Worth it, trust me.

wolves do get punched though.

people are just mad that it has the same ending as butch cassidy and the sundance kid.

Sweeney Tood
Ugh... didn't care for it at all. Probably didn't help that I found most songs and tunes embarassingly bad. I should'nt have had any sort of expectations though: Burton hasn't done anything remotely worthwhile in more than 10 years.

Zack and Miri make a porno
Some funny parts. Jason Mewes was the best one. Dutch rider got me good.

30 minutes or less
more of an adventure movie than a comedy really, favorite scene was the cop running away.
Also, Eisenburg wasn't a good fit for the role.

edit: can't beleive i forgot about the best part of the entire movie, the hispanic hitman, lolol

"Cosmo, call me a cab." "OK, you're a cab." God, Singin' in the Rain really is wonderful. Only part I didn't like: Broadway Melody Ballet drags for a bit too long.
Is it true though when Hugo completely refutes it?
I loved Hugo. Liked Shame even more.

Only Die Hard I didnt enjoy was the second. 1>3>4>2.

And Capt, Beauty and the Beast is definitely NOT the best Disney film. Top 5 probably, but I don't think I'll give anything other than Lion King that title.

A Clockwork Orange

Another great Kubrick film, it's strange and has alot of humor.
Great performance by Malcolm McDowell.

3.5/5

Before Sunrise

One of the best romance films i've seen. The interactions between the two leads
kept me engaged from the start. The scenery is nice as well.
Going to watch Before Sunset next :)

I made an OP but sadly no one cares, so here it is here. A must-see. Such a fantastic documentary, from Hoop Dreams director Steve James.

From producer/director Steve James and author-turned-producer Alex Kotlowitz, The Interrupters tells the moving and surprising story of three “violence interrupters” in Chicago who with bravado, humility and even humor try to protect their communities from the violence they once employed.

Perfect Blue last week.

Strange film, (Satoshi Kon, whatcha gonna do). I liked it, didn't love it. The twist was okay I guess, but I usually appreciate subtle hints at the very least. That one just came out free as the wind.

DH2 is just so tonally different from 1 it is kind of ridiculous. All of the cartoony side-kick characters feel out of place in the movie. And the director has a hard time filming interesting action scenes. The plot of the movie could have been just fine... but the pieces do not come together.

Regarding dark comedies, who's hyped for God Bless America, Bobcat Goldthwait's next film? World's Greatest Dad is my favorite dark comedy ever.
I have not seen World's Greatest Dad, but this movie looks right up my alley since I can relate to the main character so much (judging from the trailer).

Only heard about this yesterday, thanks for the heads up.

WTF I told you guys to watch that shit yesterday, I gave it a 9/10. PAY ATTENTION TO ME.

Also, yeah... rent blu-ray; then see it available to stream for free. Oh.

Lionheart One of the greatest tragedies in all of film is that this gem is not on blu ray!! Van Damme kicks ass, and takes names. He also brings a lot of heart to this movie. You could see he was trying to sharpen his acting chops.

The Perfect Weapon At some point in 1991, I thought Jeff Speakman would be as big as Van Damme, and Seagal. Today he does match Seagal in weight, but that is about it. This movie is one of the best of its kind. It introduced the world to Kenpo, and its fight scenes are indeed jaw dropping. I will never understand why his career didn't build upon this gem of an introduction. It was as stout as Above the LAW in terms of introducing us to a new hero.

Primer
Interesting concept badly executed. I mean it's very nicely shot for such a low budget movie but the pacing is atrocious and the content is confusing enough not to warrant such a muddled form. This was really not the kind of movie to have characters repeatedly speak at the same time and/or about obscure and unrelated balderdash.

Still gonna research exactly what the fuck it is that happened though :)
