I dig this a lot. I feel like the breaks still need something, but the main piano groove is really awesome.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to redo some stuff. I tend to like things when I export them way more than I do a day later. This is the case as well. I borderline hate the verse's drums as well.

So I've been trying to incorporate strings and stuff into my music...this was my first shot. It came out like this kinda chill metal...or is that just rock? Is this even a thing? Anyway, would appreciate any feedback.

I like the melody of it for sure, but the strings themselves sound too fake. I don't really feel like the pizzicato fits right either. If you had some better strings, or tuned these ones up, I think that would go a long way.

Yeah, I feel you. They came out pop-synthy which was not what I was going for and doesn't work with the guitars well. Gonna have to go back to the drawing board on how to use these strings, I think.

Great idea for a thread! I never knew it existed. Some fantastic music in here, although I'm not at all surprised.

My band just released our first demo recording (home recorded), so it would be great to get some opinions on it:

https://soundcloud.com/buriedgiants/i-can-breathe-without-you-demo

I may tweak things further, but we solely need something to send to venues and build up a small following.
Hell yeah, I love this. What do you do in the band? If you're looking for mixing opinions, I'd just say that the second set of guitars that come in on the pre-chorus seem a bit on the loud side.
Thanks very much! I'm one of 2 guitarists in the band (the other being the singer).

I definitely agree with you there, although I'm not sure if I should bother adjusting it yet or just wait till we get it properly recorded in a studio at some point in the near future.

I'm going to try and send the music out this weekend, which will hopefully lead to some gigs soon. I've been itching to play live for a while!

Loving your music as well mate! It's nicely composed.

Sounds good dude. What did you use to record the demo? My band really needs a decent home recording solution.

Hey guys. So this is the first serious attempt at writing/recording music for me. I just finished all the demos for the album and put together a compilation preview and had a friend make some visuals. I did everything myself so it's taken a lot longer than I thought it might. If you are into instrumental/progressive/experimental/indy rock I'd love if you checked it out and let me know what you think :).

This stuff is really groovy. I especially like Video. Is that your voice on all three tracks? It's really nice and deep, a great match with the music.
this is legit stuff
 I love this. Your style is really unique and I dig the soundscapes you make with your vocal style.
Video is interesting. Sounds very Odesza/Stumbleine-y though I'd prefer a bit more synths and melodies but I guess this genre of music doesn't really do that.
thank you guys! yeah, that is me doing the singing/lyrics/majority of vocal production/weirdness. I'm gonna check out the stuff that has been posted so far..
Sun & Sky - This is our best song, from what I'm told. I think it needs an intro, my guitarist insists it doesn't.
this is awesome, I come from a folk background so this is right up my alley; your voice and lyrics are killer in this track. I agree with you, though; it starts off too quickly and could benefit from an intro, maybe a play on that medley at 1:02? anyways, really dig it.
holy shit, dude - Many Doors, Many Worlds is incredible. following you and will listen to the rest of the EP later for sure.
I looooove the darker vibe going on in this and the little drum-rolls. would love to hear more stuff like this.
I'm not huge on metal but I respect talent and Evergreen slays.
I like this a lot, especially the vocal samples later in the track. I don't wanna call it trance cause I don't have a PHD in EDM but uhhh.. yeah, felt trance-y to me and I liked it.

again, thank you guys for all of the comments. I've started to make some new music under a new name, one that people hopefully won't automatically assume is death metal.

they aren't super traditional structures but I do try to keep stuff somewhat? catchy.

Cool man, good luck! I've always been afraid of playing live. I tend to mess things up a lot. I feel much more comfortable in the studio. And thanks for the kind words. :)

Thanks man! Yeah I have to admit at first I figured Voidguts would be either metal or some Kill the Noise-style EDM / Dubstep.

I dig the new tracks. Could just put Morning 0 on repeat :D Is there a theme going on with the track naming, as far as putting 0 at the end of both tracks?

Finally put some stuff up on Soundcloud after making empty promises on past "Make your own Music" and GAF mixtape threads. Shamefully long overdue.
Loungy, trippy, downtempo, ambient, instrumental rock. Lately I just play and record whatever sounds chill to me.

I've been listening for the past half hour or so, mostly super chill, and nice to work to. I like it.

Here for this:

I do rap stuff.

I love how analog and rough everything sounds. I like the purposfully clippy drums too. I dig it.

Thanks very much! I've only ever played open mic nights before so it'll be quite daunting I imagine, although I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. Also no problem at all! :)

Currently making a relatively intense track. Originally didn't think I'd want to put this on my next planned release but I'm having fun with it so far and I might just do that. It's relatively videogame inspired, bit of Hotline Miami inspiration but mostly just my own sensibilities.

Just got the update for Maschine and testing out some of the free vsts that came with it. So far so good despite having to get the library to register :/.

Thanks a lot :) I'm making a song in a similar vein now, but it's a little lighter in tone than Rye. Maybe I'll post what I've done so far later on.

The shit in this thread though - basically everything here is great and sounds incredibly professional! I really need to step up my game!

I did a silly "Punk goes Pop"-style metal cover of BlueBadger's song S.O.S. Thanks for letting me have a go at it, dude! I had a lot of fun.

Posted a new track today, a pretty folky cover of sam smith's "I'm not the only one" with an awesome female singer Jolene Fisher.

Damn, this is really awesome! This is also the first time I'm hearing your other solo stuff, and it's fantastic! Your acoustic arrangements have a lot more depth to them than a lot of the stuff I've heard in that genre.

Thanks man, I'm really proud of that acoustic sound since it's such a high capo and I've struggled getting anything great out of it with this guitar before. Good to hear someone else thinks it sounds good haha

I sent my bands music off last weekend to some venues, but I've heard nothing yet. :(

I just want to get out there and gig.

No need to thank me dude :) I should be thanking you! It's really cool to see my song spread across different genres like this. I love it :)!

Aww thank you! <3 rObit did all the work! He's awesome.

I also posted this in the music production thread, but I think it's more fitting here (didn't know this thread existed :p).

Just finished up four songs that I had been working on for a while. If you're into psychedelic electronic stuff, you should check it out

Really nice stuff. I love 'Ashes from a Better Time', very relaxing

loving this man, reminds me of burial + your own vibes which is honestly some of the highest praise i think i've ever given, haha. do you have a soundcloud, bandcamp, anything I can add you on and help spread the love?

If you're into psychedelic electronic stuff, you should check it out
this is also amazing but to offer some constructive criticism, it's a little on the quiet side - I have to play Ashes from a Better Time (amazing track, by the way) at almost twice the volume of any commercial track.
