Naughty Dogs story telling and attention to detail is second to none.

I'm near the end of Uncharted 4 on PC, and although there is a lot on the gameplay i'm not super keen on (overly scripted, constant QTE's, clunky combat, etc), the story telling and attention to detail in the environmnets are fantastic.

Honestly the story's and scripts from Uncharted 2, 3, or 4 would of made great movies and way better movie than the film we actually got.

Graphically the game looks good, not as good as i was expecting but very good overall, and the detail packed into the environments, environemnts that you pass through in seconds a lot of the time, well it goes above and beyond a lot of current AAA games, even ones that look better overall.
From the impeccable voice acting, to the story telling, and the environments and world building. ND obviously use all those big budgets they get and use them well.

I still much prefer Uncharted 2 and 3 as games (manily due to the severly cut down action in U4), but as a game world and narrative, U4 is an impressive showpiece.

Its just a shame ND seemed to take those 'Nathan Drake is a mass muderer' memes to heart, and toned down the violence considerably in this game.

Cant wait to get into that Lost legacy expansion as many of you said its a better game.

Enjoyed my time with the game. It felt like a movie at times, specially at the beggining, but oddly enough that didn't bother me as much as in other games. Probably because they did a good job with the writting.

I don't remember much of the script tho, my memories of this game are fun shooting, cool vistas and graphics, and grapple hook sexo.

Yeah I mean their production values and attention to detail have always been through the roof…

Lol I kid .. but you should try uncharted 2 or 3 . 4 was a let down for me compared to those two.

Uncharted 4 is really really bad story wise I thought. TLOU 2 was much better

TLOU2 is as good as it gets, as far as I'm concerned. It was masterfully done, start to finish.

I did enjoy Uncharted 4 a lot, and actually enjoyed it even moreso the second time around when I played the Legacy of Thieves collection earlier this year.

OP, dunno if you've played TLOU yet or not, but I can't recommend TLOU Part 1 enough. HIGHLY recommend picking it up when it hits PC.

For me that one was paced much, much worse.

Also, the quality of what little I saw of it (2 days of Ellie's story iirc) was more boring than U4. Maybe it was the theme, probably a matter of personal taste.

TLOU on PS3 was the last console game i ever bought before going PC only.
Great game too.

Nice. The remake is quite a leap over what you would've experienced on PS3 and in many parts looks so much better than it has a right to.

Hopefully the rumors of a Director's Cut to TLOU2 are true and you might get a chance to try it. I'm speculating that they could drop that late next year, before a season 2 drops for the TLOU HBO series

I didnt discover Naughty Dog's brilliance until I played Tlou1 when it originally released. Although I was big fan of Uncharted series, it didnt "wow" me like Tlou1 did. After I finished that game, I couldn't point another developer that ever made me feel like that.

I'm replying it on PC as well. I'm in the orphanage and the way the levels are design is so artificial, no amount of detail will help me see past it.

The layout of the room where you slip outside through the window. Furniture placed in non-logical way, only so you as a player have cover to go around the nun.

Ledges and other stuff that you can hold on to / climb that wouldn't make sense in a real world.

I hate stuff like this. It instantly takes me out of the experience. I much rather take a less detailed world but one that is designed as a believable space.

They have a unique way of making characters interactions and dialogue feel very natural, something rare even in film tbh

When it comes to story Uncharted 2 and TLOU1 are peak ND. Uncharted TLL was pretty good too. I personally felt Uncharted 4 and TLOU2 are both a bit of a bloated mess with questionable pacing and story developement. Uncharted 3 was probably the worst.

Yeah for sure but how else could they really do it when you take into account the platforming style gameplay?. I mean even with the obvious jumping ledges and stuff, i still got lost a few times through the game in terms of which is the correct route to take lol.
Gameplay wise the game isnt the best but i was talking purely from a worldbuilding and narrative angle.

It certainly kept me playing.

Story telling they are amazing but I’d love to see them develop from a gameplay standpoint. TLOU series has some of the best story telling in gaming but from an actual game play standpoint they’re very very by the he numbers. I’d love to see the differentiate themselves from other Third person games. Play into their play forming background some maybe idk.

I think what bothers me most about Uncharted is the no risk platforming and how every other foothold/handhold crumbles beneath you in an attempt to ratchet up the excitement. It becomes far too predictable and boring. Naughty Dog is great at presentation and pushing the graphical limits of the hardware they are designing for, but they never go for originality in design. Uncharted is just an simplified amalgamation of Gears of War (environments littered with waist high cover to tip you off that a combat encounter is coming) and Tomb Raider (which in itself is funny as modern Tomb Raider aped Uncharted).

i'll give them TLOU1 and 2 (yeah) but uncharted can't be taken seriously in terms of story. uncharted gameplay... the best one is TLL.

ND has mostly average story but pretty graphics. gameplay is the same old across most games. TLOU2 and TLL they kinda stepped out their zone. Hopefully their next game isn't TLOU/Uncharted and we see them going further.

disagree. both games are blatant examples of emotional button-pushing as 'mature narrative'...

you can tell a serious, adult story without resorting to this. what's weird, of course, is i've never really wanted or needed serious storytelling from uncharted, & really disliked it...

This isn't a knock, but the stories aren't all that special which is fine. Uncharted is just Indiana Jones styled pulp fiction and TLOU is a riff on Zombie tropes that were massively popular at the time. I'd say what ND does best is taking those well used story themes and bolstering them with a really good voice cast and well defined relationships between their characters.. That's especially true for TLOU as the voice cast for Joel and Ellie are amazing. That's all part of the presentation that is ND's calling card.

Ehh, i disagree, i dont like their storytelling, the only one game that i thought had good writing and story was The Last of Us 2013.
They seem to rely a lot of Hollywood tropes in their gaming and the way they tell stories is becoming stale and outdated now that every story dev is doing it.
I played Uncharted games and i didnt like them, the one thing they excel at is presentation, they do make games look good graphically and they have talented voice actors and actors who can help capture a good cutscene, thats about it.
But the actual stories are nothing more than average (except TLOU1), Uncharted in particular is simply an adventure Indian Jones with Tomb Raider inspirations, nothing impressive at all, gameplay, level design, mechanics, plot, nothing except presentation.
Actually Uncharted 2 the so called masterpiece was a piece of shit for me, the story sucked, i found it to be terrible and the final villain is such a stereotypical one dimensional awful character. Even the gameplay itself is a mediocre TPS that makes Gears of War look like a masterpiece in comparison. The only Uncharted that i kind of didnt hate was Uncharted 4.
As for TLOU, the first one was good but not legendary masterpiece its proclaimed to be, its a good game though i give them that, and the story in it was good. TLOU2 was a trainwreck that relies on cheap plot twists and shock factor and torture porn to try and subvert, but the gameplay was decent, again nothing very impressive imo.

Anyway just wanted to try and give me reasoning instead of just saying no, so yeah Naughty Dog excels only on Presentation, not a big fan.
When it comes to detail, probably RDR2 is the better candidate, but i never was obsessed about details, i dont care if the grass i walk upon gets dirty and moves in real life physics.

Plus the characters themselves in these games, Nathan (who is an amazing loveable character, even with the killing), Sully, Chloe, Cutter, etc, just great characters.

They're (Uncharted) great summer blockbuster type games that have fun narratives, interesting characters and adequate gameplay, along with looking great. They're perfect for when you want to turn your mind off and just have a fun time.

I'm all for ND sticking to their strengths. It not like we have a ton of studios able to match that level of quality. In TLOU2 I got to Hillcrest chapter and realised that I was literally sitting at the edge of my seat.

It’s funny that you mentioned the film, because it did include inspiration from UC4, such as the auction and young Nathan and Sam sections.

Anyway, on topic, the thing that ND seem to get right is giving soul to the characters. I can’t think of any recent game characters I love more than those in the Uncharted and TLOU games.

Lost Legacy was very under-rated, imo. Best Uncharted game after 2, imo.
Agreed. 3s opening bar scene, plane and other set pieces were phenomenal, just fell apart story wise, and I think a lot had to do where they scrambled to rewrite the script when Graham McTavish had another acting gig, and they had to improvise him out of the game.

Apparently from what I remember reading, he was supposed to be there for the long haul and was going to be like your Mission Impossible mask maker of sorts.

I think ND's writing is generally below average for video games. I hated UC 4 it was boring and filled with unlikeable characters except Sully. I still loved Sully in that game. The rest of their games are completely forgettable and cliche. TLOU I kind of liked though. It too was cliche, but I thought it was told well and it kept me interested.

I like ND but found UC4 was their worst game since the PS1:
- boring, predictable story which was written like a Dreamworks sequel;
- transparent antagonist with whom you almost never interact;
- plot twist visible from the moon;
- barely any impressive set pieces, the big one is Madagascar but it’s a chore to play;
- zero enemy variety;
- walk, shoot, walk, puzzle, walk, repeat;
- glorified QTE as a final boss.

Shooting was tight and there were a few good parts like climbing inside the church or the village ruins. But it was mediocre and unworthy of the Uncharted name.
