NBA 2K16 |OT| This Time With Less Cheese

Yeah it's funny how I'm complaining about a lack of competition and then we run into those guys. And they're crazy. They don't take any plays off. It felt like we had to win every damn possession or else they were going to make the lead balloon. And they're piranhas in the passing lanes so I can't just pass where ever. I think playing crap teams so much forms tiny bad habits and then dealing with the elite teams throws me off rhythm a little.

Hopefully we run into another squad like that so we can practice beating that kind of defense

BTW my whole issue that game with me was defense. I pride myself on taking my match up out of it but it was doubly frustrating to keep getting beat off the dribble by the same shit.

Yeah their defense was really impressive, overall I feel like they were legitimately one of the best teams we've played on both sides of the ball. They had a great defense and their offense was smooth.

We should start running more offense and sets against bad teams.

By the hesitation 3, Kobe Bryant cheese??? I know it's a bit risky but the percentages are on your side, of a guy plays like that then I just play the drive and give him the shot. So I'm playing like a good distance between us and probably have enough space to have a man between us. I'll give them the three, which they tend to take, and they don't make it that often. Only thing is that you can't gamble on steals or abuse the turbo button because that makes you over commit. So no turbo and no steals unless you have a help defender ready to pick up. That's how I deal with those cheese PGs.

My friend always jokes on me when we play 2v2s but he doesn't play perimeter at all. Playing against the constant hesitation 3 left right cheese is the most frustrating thing ever but I learned that staying still when they go through their animations help with the whole momentum thing 2K has that makes you get beat.

This team was actually really really good in how they attacked, it wasn't just the PG trying to create off the dribble 1 on 1, they used their PF to come up and set a high pick for him while he's doing it so eventually you run into the big man. I started going under the screen to help Phee and when I did he'd pass to the big man that was rolling to the rim who would either shoot or kick to the corner when someone would rotate to help, they were moving the ball like a hot potato off the high screen. Their wing players were scoring and playing off one another and looked like a genuine team. We've played Homicide Gang and they are cheesey, this team was just straight up good at execution and I feel like they were better than some of the higher rated teams we've played.

Going to try and get posterizer for my PG, his floater game is already cheesy as is, can't shoot worth a damn but with the Euro-step & floater I've had some success in the Walk-on scoring in lane. I think I'm going to use Harden's layup package & abuse the eurostep with it.

Really like the 6'6" PG, have to get Euro step badge though lol.

I agree. My 6'6 Outside Pg has been getting more burn lately then my 6'2. Can defend multiple positions and compete with rebounds. Relentless finisher, posterizer, and acrobat helps with inside scoring. Me and my cousin goes on 10 win streaks at a time on 2v2s now and my park record is almost 50% lol.

The only downside is that you get put at center in Walk on at times, which makes no sense at all. Also, I didn't realize you could get bruiser, I noticed that when I drive against smaller players they sometimes bounce off my guy, which is something that never happened with my tiny PG.

I'm well on the way to acquiring offensive crashers for my inside C (I don't think my outside one will need it)

The easiest way to do this is to put it on HOF Sim, and just pass Carmelo the ball and run to the basket

I think we should try some post up clear outs for Sizzle or Zep, it's something we've never done and since so many teams start small guards and our bigs shoot threes it could be really effective.

That's a good idea, although ideally that post up hopefully can be able to do something outside the paint too just in case the defense really collapses inside. My inside C can post up, but because of his lack of outside scoring, he's only effective inside the paint or if I take something close to the basket, or a really close fade or hook. And those can be hard to pull off due to the spam square nature of opponents. My soft ASS C has more room to operate due to range.

Gonna be out of town Friday/Saturday, and I'll be a bit limited tonight but hopefully I can play. It'll be kind of nice to break from the game a little though cause I find myself screwing around too much unless we got actual competition.

We're like a 4 or 5 seed right now, anybody seeded after us will catch an ass beating and we may surprise the good team once in a while, but for the most part the 1-3 seed will dispatch us in 5 games :(

It's amazing how I can go from being like gary payton one game and then smush parker the next :(

I honestly think all the break starter stuff isn't good for us. we aren't getting better by spamming it all game when given the chance

Yeah, I agree with you on the Break Starter stuff, it leads to bad halfcourt offense when we're not getting the easy points, it works great against the bad teams but good teams send men back.

I think I found my jumper for my little PG, I don't know the number right this second but it's kind of like Monta's where he jumps high for it but releases it much quicker. I was able to get the shot off in walk on against much bigger defenders after we were done, and even had several consecutive greens from three.

Yeah our half court offense is too improvised and our spacing is too whack too often. That's why I thought it'd be helpful if we just set basic guidelines so that we don't need to call out every play when something has gone awry. I think no matter what position we all are we need to have off ball action way more. I just noticed people would just run around aimlessly while creating minimal separation.

And as I said yesterday I'm fine if small guys want to set screens but if anyone sees that, go do something else! I'd look up and see a screen and then see an extra one or two people trying to do the same thing that is already being done. Like you said we beat the crap out of good teams but we fall into low IQ habits and then get out shit caved in when we are lost and making it up on the fly. I pretty much don't like to use break starter for this reason. It's gotten old and I'd rather execute better.

I feel for our default offense if we just have a pair of two man actions, one off and one on, with the 5th spotting up elsewhere, we'll be a lot more fluid and consistent. But we are going to keep struggling against great teams if guys are always cutting to the basket, setting bad spaced triple screen, or not doing much else besides trying to score (it got really bad seeing two teammates do it simultaneously)

I just went over the rules and it's going to be near impossible for us to make it, the event day winner is the only team that gets selected for the tourney. It's not the top 10 teams, it's the number 1 team for that particular event. What we did today was just the preseason, the events start next week:

GameDay 1: Monday, February 15, 2016
GameDay 2: Saturday, February 20, 2016
GameDay 3: Saturday, February 27. 2016
GameDay 4: Saturday, March 5, 2016
GameDay 5: Sunday, March 6, 2016
GameDay 6: Saturday, March 12, 2016
GameDay 7: Saturday, March 19, 2016
GameDay 8: Saturday, March 26, 2016
GameDay 9: Saturday, April 2, 2016
GameDay 10: Sunday, April 3, 2016
GameDay 11: Saturday, April 9, 2016

Only 16 teams make it.

Damn. We might be able to get lucky on one of the later days when more of the better teams have qualified but I doubt it.

And it starts on a Monday?! 2k is trash.

Badge hunt on my 6'6 PG is pretty much over. Still waiting on the rebounding practice drills so I can get break starter tho. Seriously, it's like 2K caters to the cheesy shooters since most drills are shooting drills 90% of the time. Also, the rebounding drills are stupid when you get put on the outside of the paint when you're on defense and get boxed out by the offensive player. Just dumb.

And then I can move on to the center. Will probably just focus on the rebounding badges, corner specialist, deadeye, tear dropper (apparently floaters are based on shoot close stat), eraser, and maybe the post offensive badges.

I've been experimenting with other signature styles. Jamal Crawford is just too good but I want to be different. Going to be testing others soon. Right now I'm rocking Melo escape and it's pretty damn good. Need to Park test it however. I'm trying to take ankles.

I played against someone yesterday that was using Ty Lawson's inside out and crossover and it was really really effective against my little guard. How do you like the outside 6'6" combo? I absolutely love my inside 6'6" PG, the defense you can play with them is incredible and going against smaller defenders they seem to bounce off you a lot more.

Phee put the team on his back, the video doesn't show that we won in OT with Phee looking like Dirk in 2011.

2011 Dirk conference finals, sure. finals dirk is the most overrated player of all time

got post spin just now and need to get drop step and dreamlike and I'll have all the inside cheese

I love it. Use the 6'6 way more than my 6'3 and the shooting difference isn't even noticeable. I can defend positions 1-3 and I pretty much lock-up those left right cheesers unless I get bored defending it and start reaching for steals. Also, since I'm taller than most Park PGs, I can just pull up in their face when I'm feeling real disrespectful.

I really want to make an inside player tho. Just knowing j can't have certain dunk packages because driving dunk caps at 70 makes me really sad. I want to style on people man.

Really liked the pairing of our players in the backcourt, the defensive range we covered was great. Plus I don't like to always handle the ball and passing it off to another PG works out a lot better in the long run since it gives the offense another look.

Yup. We were blocking shots left and right and passing lanes were clogged up.

the who to guard experiment didn't work so well. I get lost really easily. But at least I don't get sucked into players. Pros and cons I guess.

Yeah, big fan of the big backcourt, and on offense our skills offset the other since I can't shoot and you can.

I think I'm going to try that again, I hate the suction effect and with the bigger guard it's more noticeable.

LOL, my player needs a tan, and I didn't see you doing the backflip during the game, that's hilarious.

popped the game in since I took a long break from the hot garbage and it's still hot garbage actually feels even worst then before. Controls and defense are just horrible this year and I can't believe they didn't even fix the horrible defense yet.

I haven't played an actual 2K game sine release. I guess I'm gonna have to learn the playbook over since Hawks playbook changed a bit.

You can also pretty much tell what era of basketball I was invested in from my team.

Haha same here. It was a bit of a wake up call yesterday.

We play next and that's my last game. I'll be around today whenever after 2 CT or so

Everybody on my team is on the block. Except for Yao

Arec I finished my business later than anticipated so I'll be on later. I'm sure we'll get it in though

I would hate to see what your 2k would play like. Defense is the best it has been in years.

GG there was a lot sloppy play on my end. half the time I couldn't get them to run the play properly or I was too worried about a substitution. I'll probably see you in the playoffs lol

GG. The funny thing is that I drafted a jump shooting team but it seems like I score most of my points in the paint. I guess that's what happens when you have the cheat code that is Russel Westbrook. I should've won against grbac but Kobe had like 4 and ones.

That was the worst game I've ever played, I'd catch the ball and my guy would just drop it.

Oh well, I've seen exactly how homicide gang plays by the way, there's a pretty long clip of what they do on Youtube, everything in their offense is based around break starter and their halfcourt offense is 1 guy doing the hesitation 3 near a screen until the defender runs into it then he drives, shoots the three or passes when the help D comes. It's actually pretty simple cheesey offense that we could replicate.

Yea that was crazy. I would've thrown my controller across the room.

I hope 2K adds more hesitation moves so that there are a variety. All the other moves beside 3 are either slow or don't create enough space like 3 does. 4 is pretty fast but it creates no space at all.

We should try that out tonight if everybody is on. How did you find that video just search homicide gang?

I get my scout on, was looking up the top teams to see how they play. Hesi 3 + Jamal Crawford + Screens when they're in the halfcourt.

They also try to steal every pass, like all of em. But if you watch the video, the team that beat them went to a 3-2 and is a lot bigger than HG on the perimeter.
