Was literally about to post asking about loading times. I had no problem at all during the first few days and then today suddenly loading times have reached 2K17 depths. As I type this I'm stuck on 30%, I couldn't open the closet or start a shootaround in my court either.

Good job 2K.

EDIT: It just finished loading into the neighbourhood and it's a ghost town.

servers fucked huh. well, at least VC servers are working. back to running MyLeague Simcasts!

I went home and did the VC trick for about an hour last night and it got me enough VC to upgrade from 77 to 80 OVR. I think I'm going natural the rest of the way, but thanks to whoever first stumbled upon that.

In any other game I might pay the $5-10 and save three or four hours of my time but nah, 2K aren't getting another goddamn penny from me and I only paid £23 for my copy. If I paid full price I'd be furious.

I only play play now and my league since vc is annoying. If i was to bother with anything else id rather burn cash than make 4$ an hour vc jeeze thats some nike sweat shop shit.

Your mentality is why they continue to go deepee with this stuff and get away with it. I'd rather spend a couple hours at a time doing this than giving them anything. I can watch a show and do this at the same time and gain 10k or more an episode so I'm not hurting.

Like I said I don't buy or use VC, i just find that sweat shop mentality demeaning as hell. I feel bad.

I hate myself for spending $60 on an annual NBA game (went digital on Switch), but I really feel I got my money's worth. Just started a season, and added two expansion teams for the fun of it. Was able to customize everything from the court floor to a third jersey. The depth of a season mode is incredible.

Meanwhile, the 3 on 3 online playground matches are a lot of fun, and well, I really get a kick out of the cutscenes during MyPlayer mode.

I haven't played a 2K game since 2K13, so maybe I am not burnt out on another NBA 2K game, but man, this game has totally been worth $60. Looking forward to playing this on my airplane ride back home tomorrow.

Where did you score it for $23?

A friend hooked me up via an employee discount.

The game itself is really good, I feel like the park is less cheesy than last year and that's all I play so that's cool. I'm enjoying the story cutscenes a lot too but man, this VC thing is total bullshit. Compare the career mode to any other sports game out there and it's by far the biggest grind and it's designed that way just to fleece us for VC.

Having to pay for the most basic haircuts without having any way to preview them? Having to pay for haircuts you previously had if you decided to change it at any point? There's no excuse for any of it.

I feel it. But it's either grind it now, over a long period of time "naturally", or just not play/be under leveled. Already bought the game, and the gameplay is enjoyable, so I'd like to have fun online with it, which means VC. Hopefully live is on the switch next year, heard good things about this year's, then I won't even sweat 2k anymore.

Not defending 2K or anything but I still have a good time, even being under leveled. I've smashed plenty of Legends and 98-99 overalls with 80 tier players. IMO, the only time attributes matter is when the skill level is even.

Or when you're going against Lockdown Defenders. Ha, good luck holding onto the ball.

I don't look at it as me grinding an hour for the equivalent of $5, but more like me grinding for an hour for the equivalent of playing the actual bullshit game for a week.

A week's worth of work being compressed to an hour of me listening to a podcast and hitting some buttons is more compelling than an hour's worth of work being compressed to $5.

Anyway they've got me for $70 already, they ain't getting any more.

It's a shame that these guys insist on fucking over their consumers, while the on court product is the best it's ever been.

These guys are some real talented devs, but their business side basically treats their consumers pretty horribly. It's amazing how much the community is okay with the treatment. You get some people ultimately dissenting and speaking out, but the community still basically forks over the damn cash for VC.

This IGN review is really good too (I think they contracted a guy from OS to write this): http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/09/20/nba-2k18-review

They bring up a lot of the downsides of 2k18:

Those are all steps forward, but NBA 2K18 has also taken a significant step back by bringing microtransactions to a place that feels uncomfortable. They were around last year, but now you're forced to use virtual currency to buy everything from a tattoo to a T-shirt, as well as increasing your character's stats. You can earn this currency by playing – very slowly – but if you buy the $150 version of NBA 2K18 you can get a big boost with the currency that comes with it. You'll see plenty of those artificially high-rated players around, and it feels like we're being steered toward spending money to avoid an insane amount of hours spent grinding for points.

This haves and have-nots problem is magnified because, again, individual players on the court play much more closely to their strengths and weaknesses than before. So when you start out, your 60-rated player is pretty much bad across the board. The people who paid money and have better skills are still not great at everything, but no one is going to want to play with your 60 because you're now even more of a liability. It just feels really perplexing to make a competitive online mode so focused on character stats, because that means getting up to speed means either paying out money or grinding for hours to make yourself viable. Most competitive first-person shooters hide cosmetics or at worst maps behind a paywall rather than more powerful guns because that would throw off the balance, and this is no different. It's a dangerous slide into pay-to-win territory.

Man, this game is so frustrating! The VC crap is annoying enough, but now I found out that audio is blocked when shareplaying for some reason.

My friend and I like to play the franchise mode together, but have to use shareplay since that's the only way you can play co-op together in that mode for some idiotic reason. We would happily buy another copy if I could just invite him to join my session and play the games with me, but it's local co-op only for that mode. Seriously, how is this still a thing in 2017? Regardless though, we've used shareplay in the past as a work around for this, and apparently the audio is blocked this year. It seems like it was block last year as well, but I skip every other year, so I didnt get it last year. I can sort of understand the whole menu music thing I guess, but why is the actual game audio blocked as well?

It really sucks. I'm enjoying the My Career stuff, but playing the franchise with my friend was what I sunk most of my time into with 2K16. I doubt I can get my money back, but stuff like that and the VC stuff really make me wish I didn't pay full price for the game.

I made a shot creator playmaker. Hope this turns out well...

I'm farming for a Rodman clone next...

I just made a 6'2 playmaking shot creator PG. That Dimer badge is going to be a ballache but right now I'm just happy to be an offensive threat. Coming from my pure lockdown small forward, the difference is like night and day.

Yeah, I'm marathoning Mythbusters on Netflix while I grind out MyLeague. If I can get to 2-300k by the weekend then I'll be happy. That'll be enough to max out both of my current players with enough left over for animations/headstart on a third build if I choose to do so.

What gold badges do you get? I'm still stuck doing this dumb ass prelude

Hmmm, gimme a minute to load up my career and have a look at the badges, it doesn't tell you which ones go up to what level which is yet more bullshit concerning the career this year, on top of the fact that you can't see what you actually get when you spend VC on increasing attributes.

According to this chap on Reddit (First reply), dimer is only silver which sucks as I kinda hoped it would be a gold badge even though passing is my secondary archetype.

EDIT: Let's see if we can work this out then. We know I get 3 HOF, 5 Gold, 7 Silver and 6 Bronze.

HOF: Ankle Breaker, Tireless Scorer, Difficult Shots

Gold: Definitely get Mid Range Deadeye and Tear Dropper.

Silver: Dimer, P&R Maestro

Bronze: Corner specialist, defensive stopper.

That leaves: Flashy Passer, Break Starter, One Man Fast Break, Glue Hands, Quick Reflexes, Free Throw Ace, Relentless Finisher, Post Spin Technician, Acrobat, Lob City Passer, Charge Card, Up&Under Specialist

Charge Card, Glue Hands, Free Throw Ace and Quick Reflexes are cards that everybody gets so I assume they will be bronze which means everything else will be silver or better. Acrobat and Relentless Finisher were shot creator badges last year so I guess they'd be gold? Not sure what the final gold badge would be.

I think Shot Creator is the best offensive primary. Good all around stats and good badges. Can do a bit of everything.

I was plugging some builds in on this website,

Nba2Kwishlist.com

And apparently most of the top builds stat wise deal with defender. It makes sense tho because defenders have the higher cap in the physical attributes.

Fucks sake, I saw he had 88 ball control at 6'4 so I made my guy 6'2 because of those little arrows saying it increase ball control.

Mine has maxed out at 88 as well, so I'd have been better off just keeping mine at 6'4 and having fewer shots blocked. Of course, there is absolutely no way to know this until you max out the attributes.

This whole hiding of the attributes is a goddamn joke. Sitting through the prelude and spending VC while having absolutely no idea of what the end result will be.

This will be the first year in ten years I will not buy the game. It doesn't matter if they improved the on court gameplay again, the shitty are to much (they were atrocious from the beginning but last and this year they just taking the piss with prices and progression.

MyCarreer just gets worse and worse, instead of building a mode where you can create your own story they now force a extremely bad story upon you with cutscenes that are way to long. If you want to do something like that take a hint from The Journey in FIFA at least that was well done....

I probably will keep playing 2k17 MyGM and MyCareer (when I feel I can stomach the stupid story and the atrocious loading times and transitions).

i think i'm about to drop this game

my character at 85 in 2k17 felt great, but my character at 85 in 2k18 feels like shit :(

Get those badges bro! Badges are really effective this year compared to 2K17. Even with bronze Relentless Finisher and Acrobat the layups suddenly goes in compared to being shit without badges. I can't imagine how good those gold or HoF badges are this year.

I'm pretty sure ur other 3 gold badges are Free Throw Ace, Quick Reflexes and Glue Hands, since everyone is getting them.
Wow they even nerfed the POTG VC lmao. It was 100 or 200 last year? Greedy suckers.
Yeah, but u still get 600 VC for a win and like 600 VC for an A+ grade. Felt more than last year where I would roughly get 1k VC per win.

They have an article on VC in NBA 2K on OS asking have they crossed the line, they have different editors responses.

Mike Lowe's responses is completely ridiculous

This is part of it

"For instance, we can all agree that it’s not ideal to have to pay VC for a new haircut in NBA 2K, but at the same time games have remained at $60 for how many years now? It’s a bit of a miracle that gaming prices have stayed stagnant, and I think we actually have VC to thank for it on some level. For someone like me who spends the majority of their time in franchise modes, VC is actually beneficial because it keeps the cost of a game at $60"

https://www.operationsports.com/vc-nba-2k18-crossed-line-acceptability/

That is BS, this game cost at $60 becouse it sales millions at that price, and even then 2K releases a $99 version and $149 version which is more then that last few years, gaming companies are not about to raise prices of base games that would piss of consumers, it has nothing to do with VC

At least the other editors on OS are ripping into 2K on the VC thing

Corporate apologists are beautiful thing. Thank you VC for making the game only cost $60 while other games without exploitation cost....$60?

Alright now make it so you get double VC at 65......not fucking 94.....what a stupid decision. Leveling up should feel good and fun. But it's a chore in this game. We have all seen rookies be full on stars by the end of one season, but at the current pay out and rate I'm saying we hit probably just above 70.....in a full season......where we come from 2k17......and you could be an overall 86 by the end of one season......

Fuck mike Lowe and that answer. What a bunch of
Bullshit.

It's even better when you realize they yet again spent 5 minutes on MyGM this year. All they did was add camera angles to the office visits and stuff. It's still THE EXACT SAME SHIT. There is yet again no reason to pick MyGM over MyLeague AT ALL. They literally spent the last year just doing the mycareer open world and figuring ways to fuck people over.

Why must the absolute best gameplay wise sports game be so anti consumer friendly, ggguuuhhhhh

Disgusting response.

I hope NBA is the only one that enters in this shit. Good thing EA keeps that shit enclosed into the Ultimate Team context, and never outside (at least that I know of)

It's such a shame, all this VC crap. It's my first time playing any Basketball game, and I'm loving the actual games and the presentation.

If Live ends up on Switch next year, though...
