I was close to getting an Apple Watch, but realized this fits my lifestyle much better at the moment.

I've been wearing this watch off and on since 2001.

It served me well, but my days have changed quite a bit since then and I needed something rugged, digital, and with alarms. It's my first G-Shock and already I want another.

My Seiko Pepsi Diver has been running fast since the day I got it (gaining nearly a minute a day), and I'm wondering how much I should expect to pay to get it repaired. I'm in Japan for the next month, so I might get it taken care of here.

Looking back over the last few pages, you guys have got me wanting to buy a seiko and a orient lol. £100 for a rolex looking watch that is automatic seems pretty good to me!

These are some nice watches, i actually really like this one http://www.christopherward.co.uk/autumn-event/menswatches50/c60-38-auto-swrt.html but not sure if its a bit feminine because of the colour and size?

They're suppose to be good watches but not worth the price they're when not on sale.

I bought the original Trident C60 and for the money it's a great watch. A lot of attention to detail and a hefty, quality feel.

But yeah, I wouldn't pay full price since they're tend to offer good discounts years round.

Sheesh. Forgot this thread existed. Spent way too much time on WUS over the last couple years.

I went through quite a Submariner homage phase during those couple years. Almost all have come and gone. I have one left that I will be selling soon. It's been fun, but I'm over flipping and my only interest left in watches is an Omega GoodPlanet. My permanents will be the GMT Master, Tudor Pelagos and Rolex Bubbleback. The Davosa Ternos is my wifes:

My trusty G-Shock GW-810BXD-1ER (Earl of Dawn) finally died completely after 8 years. Bought new battery but something else seems to be the problem. Tried to get the same model again but it's to old already and i haven't found any seller online anymore.

Looked around and there is no comparable G-Shock model available atm so i looked at the PRW models from Pro Trek. Especially the 3000 models.
Well, i could not resist anymore (i need a watch on my wrist. I'm not a complete human without it) and just bought the PRW-3000T-7ER (350 €). Was eying the 3100T-7ER with the new STN display but i don't really like the bezel. A dream would have been the PRW-3000YT-1JF but this is a rare limited edition Japan model and out of my price range.
I love negativ displays but i can't go back from steel wristbands to plastic ones and all the negativ display PRWs models are only with plastic except the rare japan model (black titanium wristband). Going to post some pics when it arrives next week.

Is it possible for a battery powered watch to have a mechanical movement, meaning that it has the smooth, sweeping seconds hand?

I think I've mentioned this here before, but I'm interested in buy this Nomos. Is there anything I should know about buying from Chrono24? It's £700 cheaper than RRP but are there any extra duty charges (shipping to the UK)?

In general I don't mind paying extra for convenience (i.e. straight from Nomos) but it's a lot of money

Anyone got an opinion on the Nomos Club?

I like it a lot, and it seems like a nice package but it might be a little too cuddly/vintage for me.

I've actually soured a bit on NOMOS after owning an Orion for a while. If you value in-house movements, they may be worth their price. But otherwise you get a rather simple case with decent but not mind blowing craftsmanship at prices that continue to escalate beyond the rest of the market.

I'd buy a Stowa before another NOMOS.

there are a few.
if you are into vintage watches, you could go for so-called "tuning fork" watches. Battery life is awful, though.

more recent, but really expensive are the Spring Drive calibers from the Grand Seiko line of watches.

Edit:
Bulova (a maker of said tuning fork watches in the past) has come up with a line of "UHF" watches again as well.

A rare OnkelC appearance!

You'll likely pay some import duties, but it's still a far cry from £700.
Lots of people have had success with Chrono24, I posted a thread before from WUS with lots of successful buyers.

I'm not a fan of the light colored dials of the Club personally.
The discontinued handwound Dunkel (dark gray dial) model (no date, or slightly larger date) both look a lot better. Or the LE from Timeless with dark blue face (which i have ;) )

Since you'd have to buy it 2nd hand, it'd be a lot cheaper.

Is it possible to get a (genuine) used men's Rolex watch for $3k or less? Where should I look?
How much are the cheapest new ones, $4k?

Don't know about used, but you're looking at right around $5k for a Rolex Oyster Perpetual which is the entry level model.

A no-date Sub, probably the most iconic model, will be around $7.5k new.

Used base models like Datejusts from the 70s/80s will be in the $2k range.

Why do you want a Rollie? It is a good watch, but I don't think anyone would disagree that comparable quality watches can be had for a lesser price.

If you want new, skip retail/ADs and buy from DavidSW. He is incredibly well trusted. Check out www.DavidSW.com. He's got the new OPs for $4,600 and no tax for out of state sales.

Mostly just because of the brand and I've never known anyone that owned or wore one. I also like the look, just as long as it doesn't have any gold on it. I haven't decided if I'm going to buy one though... have just been thinking about it for a while.

I'm generally of the opinion that Rolex makes a great $3k-$4k watch, but they price it as twice that or more. They fall into the trap of better engineering through marketing.

That said, we're all taking about paying silly prices for man jewelry. If a Rolex is what you want, then that might just be the one for you.

Go check out watchrecon.com for used Rolexes.

Let's be honest here - can't go wrong with a Rolex. Has the name recognition so your friends will be impressed yet still has plenty of heritage/prestige. Never going to be the best bang for your buck, but also will hold its value better than any watch that isn't Patek.

Those Stowas are really nice. I might lean that way too. Thanks for the suggestion.

Stowas are great - wearing one as I type. Also own a Nomos, which I adore (to put it mildly). You really can't go wrong with either, but Stowas are an excellent value and always one of my first recommendations for people.

I have a watch issue. I recently bought a Disney Store Watch Club Collection Genie (I've lost some of you already) and as soon as I got it I noticed that it kept time briefly before losing minutes and then the minute hand would end up stuck at around 25 past. Finally halting the rest of the hands. Due to how I received the piece I can't return it. And I want it fixed. I took it to repair centre (The Watch Lab) who kept it for 3 months before shipping it back unchanged claiming they couldn't find the correct parts (it's a watch from 1993) and that they shopped it around other companies trying to fix it.

I just want a working timepiece, I don't care if the parts are new old, authentic or close a possible. Is it really that hard to gut a watch and replace the broken innards with working ones? All I really want it the face and hands to be the same. Surely they could have found a similarly sized watch and just switch the movements?

Am I wrong in thinking that would be easy for a watchmaker?

Um, a quartz watch from '93 shouldn't have a lack of parts so I would get a second opinion, even if it's from a local jeweler/watch specialist.

If the movement is shot, you can replace the entire mechanism so that the watch works. It shouldn't be too costly and makes senses to do so if the item is hard to find or has sentimental value.

Also, who cares how expensive, intricate, historical, etc. etc. a watch may be; as long as you like it. I have expensive pieces but one of my all time favorite watches is an old Seiko Mickey Mouse Watch that's over 20 years old!

I thought this would be the case. My thinking is that they were hesitant to gut it because it's a limited edition and by changing it it would lose value. And they did want me to make noise about that. But a broken watch is worthless, maybe I should have made that clear to them. Ii'll take it to another shop at the weekend.

I'm a huge fan of the Bremont SOLO Pilot piece. I'm hoping to get one by my Birthday in the spring. Although that Tudor Pelagos is calling my name.

Does Casio make a G-Shock for children? I can't seem to find one in my searches. If not, is there a comparably rugged watch recommendation for a young boy?
