New Hunter x Hunter Anime |OT| of Hunters and adventure and NO MANGA SPOILERS

The first arc is probably the most straight forward and the weakest of the show. Its not bad but it was still focused on being kid friendly so a lot of censorship of things like a guys heart getting ripped out and suddenly appearing inside a baggie.

The original anime was so much better at the first arc, I especially love the sushi part.

Nearing the end of the anime, 2 episodes left. Should I start with the manga from the beginning or is the anime pretty faithful and should skip it? Where does the anime leave off and the manga begin anyways? I keep hearing that its on eternal hiatus

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

The manga has huge and constant breaks so the manga isn't much farther than where the anime left off. There is one really big event that goes down though so its worth it for that.

I'm starting to miss HxH and don't want to blaze through the manga so I'm probably going to give the OVA a watch. OVA IS 8 EPS? ARE YOU FUCKING SHITTING ME!!! Why the fuck does ep 1 drop you like right in the middle of the first 30 eps of the anime? Maybe I was supposed to start with the 2001 series where they botched Leorio's design. Now Mito looks like a character from Trigun. 15 seconds in I see fucking Kite. Kite done killed a bear and Bright punched a 10 year old...

Chimera Ant arc is really fucked up so far. I was dreading that moment with the kids since they appeared, man why :(

Other than that though I'm really enjoying it. It's interesting to see the chimera people learn and evolve, it feels like they're building up to be real threats. And these are just the minions

This isn't even their final form. The whole arc really does make you question what it means to be human. Lol at this fucking Jin Freaks translation. Even this version of Mito doesn't like Ging. "He dead, worked at a store." Once Gon even asked about him you can just see her face calling Ging a "Motherfucker." Which exactly is the more canon beginning? This or the 2011's beginning? God damn this Leorio is broke as fuck, just publicly stealing fish.

You ain't seen nothing yet. Prepare yourself for what you will be unprepared for regardless.

The Chimera Ant arc is escalation incarnate.
It's one of my favorite animated arcs. The narrator had to work over time, but the feels hit me like a truck when it was over. I still really don't get why people hate the arc and HxH in general...granted I've only really found them in the Naruto thread but still, shit just boggles the mind.

Despite everything else from the show and from Chimera Ant, Reina meeting her mom still gets me to cry/closest to crying more than any other moment

It just hits home how bad the devastation is for normal people, how terrifying and difficult it would be to recover from it, etc.

Slow pacing. Too much tell, not enough show. The narration works in print because it's a couple of panels per page; in animation, it's minutes and minutes of some person talking while the show drags at 2 frames per second.

That's the thing that kept surprising me. Just how brutal their reality was but how they humanized everyone at the same time. It's something I rarely get from anime.

I seriously was not prepared to be on the verge of tears during multiple parts of the Chimera Ant arc.

I understand the complaints and see them as valid, I just don't think they're bad enough to completely mar a perfectly good story.

They like Naruto, that's enough to know not to listen to them /s....kinda.

People thinking Naruto is the highpoint of Shonen are kinda sorta nuts. Togashi does some weird shit too, but he does a better job of achieving it in my opinion.

It's because it was many gateway anime series, just like people thinking DBZ is the best shonen let alone best anime.

Jojo should be everyone high point!

DBZ is one of my gateway animes, I sure as shit don't think it's the Shonen high point though. Yu Yu Hakusho blows the fucking shoes off of DBZ in my opinion. Anybody stating that as the high point needs to watch more anime.

Only Hunter x Hunter tops DBZ for me, as far as shonen series are concerned. The nostalgia factor with Dragon Ball is just too strong! It truly is a testament to the quality of HxH, because few things overide my childhood nostalgia. Watching the 2011 series made me feel like a fucking kid watching DBZ again lol.

I think at some point I just retroactively turned YYH into my favorite childhood anime...either that or that Vision of Escaflowne and I was in high school when those came out. I don't hate DBZ but it just doesn't get my juices flowing...technically Robotech is my nostalgia filled childhood anime. I love that shit.

I have more fondness for Dragon Ball over DBZ. Which is weird since I totally grew up with DBZ and I didn't watch Dragon Ball until afterwards. It just aged a lot better than DBZ did oddly enough.

I always feel that HxH is more like Dragonball than Dragonball Z since the original show is more about exploration and training while DBZ just seemed more about power escalation.

Hahha, DBZ has always had a very firm grip on me! However, YYH is a very good series to hold highly. Always been up there for me, and dub Yusuke is probably my favorite shonen protagonist. YYH, DBZ, and Rurouni Kenshin were my trifecta for good minute. Never really got into Escaflowne or Robotech, but have always heard that they were pretty damn good Mecha shows.

That's probably also why I love Toriko so damn much haha. I can really enjoy some power creep lol.

I blitzed through this in a couple months. I liked it well enough, but dear lord the Chimera Ant arc refused to end. Felt like half the show was spent on it. I wanna know more about the Zoldycks, they were neat.

Escaflowne is damn good. Out of all of the anime to attempt to turn into a kids show Fox tried and fucked up trying with that one cause it's just too damn mature to be a kids show. Robotech...technically Macross and two other shows is good as well. I'm pretty much an anime all rounder and I love me some Gundam. My last power creep show was Naruto. I don't exactly hate it even though probably the entirety of Naruto-gaf thinks I do, but god damn that's not a high point. I have went on countless rants about that shit in both threads. End of the Pain arc was like my breaking point.

Half the show is the Chimera Arc if not more. Killua has the best family though.

Up to 93 right now, some notes

-Despite having prodigious talent and months of training Gon and Killua are still pushovers in the world of seasoned fighters
-Poor Kite :(
-More child slaughter :/
-Meruem is one cold-blooded mother fucker. He seems way too similar to Cell
-Damn Gon is experienced, didn't know he had it like that

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

Are you talking about the fact that Gon was basically the child escort of Whale Island?

HStallion

Yeah that was one part of the story where I had to stop and go back because I was like,"Is Togashi implying Gon was basically pimped out to lonely older single women when they came to the island to sight see?" And yes, yes I think he was.

I have no idea why I didn't have much of a reaction to this statement. He's more experienced than Killua, but it makes sense with him. Killua was sheltered, Gon just did whatever the fuck he wanted as long as Mito was fine with it...though who pimped him out?

I have a question. Did Gon even have a plan for defeating Pitou? For the entire duration of the build up for it he was confident that he would be able to make her pay for what she did to Kite, but he would've died...easily actually if he didn't do what he did.

Gon's not really the type to have plans, especially when his emotions take over. And when he does, it generally involves in-the-moment decision making based around powering his way through.

Nah I think Gon was just planning on fighting her like normal and didn't have his sacrifice play in his mind before hand.

I guess he didn't want Killua there to witness him throwing his life away then.

You can't really fight Pitou like Genthru though. Gon gonna Gon though.

Yeah, I really don't think Gon had a plan. Gon is just a reckless fighter who doesn't think about consequences. Only one thing was on his mind, killing Pitou. He probably would have fought her conventionally.

Gon's plan involved throwing rock. Then rock again. Then rock another time.

that paper mixup though
Don't forget that 33% chance of him using scissor.

"I'm going to fuck up this OP cat bitch, I don't know how I'm going to do it, but I'll do it." Will never forgive Gon for threatening to murder Komugi though, that's a line in the sand for me though. Killua thought throughout that whole thing even if he was mad about Kite. Gon just recited that "Kick logic to the curb" mantra from TTGL and just went nuts.

Is it one of those "Togashi forgot" things or because Gon never fully mastered paper or scissors or just Rock's the easiest thing for him to do?

I think it was just Gon making up an ability on the fly that didn't really make much sense considering his nen type. So he ended up with a strong ability that is predictable and he uses all the time, a mostly useless ability and that one ability he can use like every now and then.

I think Rock just aligns with his personality more. He wants to use Rock while Paper and Scissors are more a "well, I guess I have to" sort of thing.

And yeah, Pitou would have obliterated Gon. Gon had no plan and even if he did, he would have still got wrecked.

*Slaps away Rock* "I have to kill you Nyao."

I do find it surprising how Killua got the more interesting and versatile move set. Gon's greatest ability is in being random and borderline crazy and hard headed beyond the logical conclusion. If Killua fought Genthru for example he wouldn't have needed to have a new hand deus exed for him

Gon probably has his family heritage to help him out as it seems being a total monster of a human runs in the family and on top of him basically being the wild child of Whale Island gave him a natural strength. Remember he was easily defeating every normal adult fighter he went against in Heaven's Arena until he go to the Nen users. He was literally shoving them out of the ring with one move each time without even trying.

All that combined makes a powerhouse even if he isn't the flashiest out there.

Lol this is true. Him and Killua just steamrolled those guys until Killua got Wing's apprentice...even then he beat him, but couldn't really knock him unconscious. Gon definitely does have the makings of a great fighter...decent human is debatable though. Who knows what kind of path he'd wind up walking. I'm not saying he'd be the villain, but teen Gon would definitely have the makings of an anti-hero.

At 103 now

-Was wondering whether those spider guys were going to do something. How do people even managed to live there
-Old man is getting serious. That's a combat outfit if I've ever seen one
-Murderface Gon got everyone shook
-I don't know, I still don't trust the chameleon dude. Gon is way too earnest
-The King of Chimera Ants is getting clowned by a blind snotty nosed kid in a board game. That's not a ridiculous scenario at all. How's that L feel though bro

Phantom Troupe is fucking legit, "Pain Packer!!" You haven't even seen the worst of Gon yet. Gungi is serious business.

104-109 (actually skipped 101 before lol whoops)

-Cell is still getting rekt, but he is actually enjoying it?! Becoming protective of her too
-Cheetah guy is such a scrub
-Morel is a boss
-Man the scenes where Knov infiltrates the palace was so tense, its like the second half of Yorknew all over again
-Lion guy is such a scrub
-Looks like Palm got snatched up RIP. Hopefully she was just killed if that was the case, the villains gaining any intel would be bad for our heroes. The guards didn't say anything about it so maybe not
-Damn Knov looking like he just came out of office
-Its finally about to go down, bring on the fights
