Anyway, you be even more off topic. Anyone has anything to say about SCD Saturn games? Never did play them :/.
I'll do a (confusing?) general breakdown of the system.
(Note there might be errors since I haven't played the games in like 10 years due to new games & backlog)
Common across all 5 games: Each of your characters can have up to 6/8 Troops (which consist of 10 man (1 HP each) each) accompany them.
Each character has a Command Range in which their troops gain AT/DEF Boni and if a troop stands at the beginning of a new turn next to their general they will be healed for 3 HP.
Each character starts in a predetermined class, hitting level 10 they can choose between two promotion classes which can be promoted again at level 10 - in special cases these 2nd promotions can be promoted again.
Langrisser 1 & 2 (mega drive, snes, pc-engine, pce-fx, saturn, ps1): Phasebased, charactersized tiles, like the Fire Emblem still are today.
Lang 2 offers a multipath scenario, meaning at certain points you can switch sides from light to imperial to choas to genocidal/freedom.
Langrisser 3 (Saturn, Ps2 with "censored" artwork): sort of Phasebased, but you do not move your troops individualy, instead you choose a formation (straight line, diagonal, etc), move your general - while the enemies plans their movement- and at the end of the planning phase all troops move automaticaly to their new position around their general - depending on their speed this can mean that your horsemen stand next to an enemys pikemen during the battlephase because the soldiers of your other general nearby were too slow to occupy that particular tile.
First game whith a "romancesystem" - each of your dialogchoices during a scenario raises/lowers affection with one/some of the girls.
If you manage to woe that st*** princess you can a slightly different endscenario. (she always suicided in my playthroughs -_-)
Most people dont like L3; I like the idea of trying to simulate a dynamic war and the comfort not to move all troops individualy; imo it's not a bad game, jsut different.
Langrisser 4&5 (Saturn, Ps1): Games are now speed-based and have smaller tiles allowing for halfsteps (4 minitiles make one standardtile, L5 and Final Edition only) allowing for more hexlike attack&movement pattern.
This speedmovement also resulted in L4 in troops that are slower than their general and lag behind (or was it the other way around, aaah) - though I
do remember having that problem in L5 too.
The Final Edition L4 uses L5s system.
Spells now take time to cast.
Romance.
L4 has again multipath scenarios (not as extensive as in L2).
Remove the visible tiles and troops, add delaytime towards every action and you got Growlanser.
