New Monster Hunter World trailer shows off Wildspire Waste

How grindy is Monster Hunter?

I kinda wanna jump into World but would wanna keep my expectations in check. As in how much of the same monster to kill to make an equipment out of it when you're at the high tier?
In my personal experience (which may not be similar to other peoples) going through low rank isn't grindy at all. The only times you'll need to kill a monster more than once is to get a full set of its armour. However, you only need to make a fresh set every once in a while unless you really want to specialise in random skills (you get your skills from your armour). High rank is a bit grindier however. Still, no where near as bad as Mmo grind imo. Mostly because you're not grinding dungeons, just bosses.

Did the bird just stop that Attack with the Boulder he was playing with... And does a "No, no, no" head shake to make you look like a fool...

Damn!

This is such a quantum leap for the series. Really hope it works out for Capcpom.

Nah, X to XX was a quantum leap. This is huge.

Anyway, the trailer was great but I wasn't really feeling the new main theme which is strange for the series, at least for me.

It seems like they're about to do that "big jump" that Game Freak is rather cautious about doing with Pokemon. It really will be interesting for not only for Capcom, but the Japanese gaming industry as well.

Saw Gaijin Hunter's video yesterday and my take was how hard we got screwed in the west by the name Barroth instead of Boruborosu.

For any other xbox player.. Microsoft just confirmed Monster Hunter World will be enhanced on the one X. So thats good to hear

Awesome. REALLY hope it ends up being cross play as well. Ideally it will be Xbox Play Anywhere like RE7, so there's some precedent from Capcom in that regard.

This is my most hyped 2018 release by far.

Didn't have time to comment on this yet, but looks really good.
The Hub video is a lot more impressive since it's gameplay, and not the classic action trailer (which had some parts bothering me a bit, but not that much).

I'm still a bit doubtful over the grapple mechanic to be honest, rest seems good outside of the bows.
Graphics look good, enhanced MT framework, nothing fabulous but looks better due to the jump from 3DS obviously. A bit disappointed by the UI that looks nearly too modern in some places (aka like MHO), but at least it either works mostly the same way, or introduces some cool new elements.

Looking forward to the PC version, shame it'll be out months later and that there's no crossplay at all. Oh well. Won't double dip.

I haven't played monster Hunter in a long time, if I remember right the town hub worked more like Diablo, have they changed it or any word on how it works in this game? Not sure if it's going to be more like a Destiny hub or stay more like diablo still.

If you're meaning a 3rd person camera following your character vs an Isometric fixed view, to looks to be the former from what I've seen. So more Destiny like? Outside of that comparison, Diablo and Destiny Hubs seem the same to me.

Monster Hunter World could possible be the biggest supported Japanese game on Xbox? As in it will sell alot on Xbox since most other Japanese games hardly sell on Xbox

Maybe? It seems like there's a lot more excitement for DBFZ, though that has the advantages of being tied to an enormously popular IP and looking as incredible in the graphical department as it does. MS was really smart to tie that to Xbox early on, even if it will likely be a title that favors the PS4 once it releases.

It's only grindy when you play solo. MH is made for multiplayer and decent skilled group of hunters shouldn't take a hunt longer than 10 minutes (except on some late game monsters).

Sony doesn't have a problem with PS4/PC cross-play but I think Capcom has a problem with cross-play between two platforms running on different frame rates. The Switch version of MHXX could have ran at 60fps but it's locked at 30 which I imagine is because of 3DS cross-play.

Or maybe they just couldn't be bothered to do it. Maybe DLC content on PC won't be available day and date with the PS4 version posing compatibility issues? Who knows.

There's notable performance difference between MH4U on N3DS and 3DS, and from my experience it doesn't affect gameplay that much.

This is what they show on their Japanese footage.

Just wish they would get rid of mining and farming. Hate it!!! And gathering actually. Or just let me gather everything by holding O. Hate having to wait and press it 90 times.

Watching the footage over and over again, ditching the 3DS is the best thing to happen to the series in recent memory.

So many things are no longer an issue. Beyond everything else, I'm so excited to not be constrained to the 3DS' unergonomic and shitty form factor. Especially for big hands. Good god, that handheld was so poorly designed.

Good riddance.

That starting monster with the rock is the best.

Monster Hunter G added the ability to let you hold down the gathering button for faster gathering.

It's not gonna be on sale in Japan for Xbox, it's gonna sell an ok amount in the west.

They added the hold function in Generations iirc.

Gathering is instant now so that's nice. The farm will obviously be the way to go for mass material gathering.

Oh that is great news. I have not picked up G.

Monster Hunter X and XX both let you gather until the resource point is exhausted by holding the button.

Personally I'm not really that hyped about this game, which is strange considering I've played upwards of 2000 hours of MH 4/X/XX. Part of it is that I'm extremely disappointed they ditched Arts/Styles instead of rebalancing them or iterating on the idea in some way. Instead they've doubled down on mounting stuff which is my least favourite thing to do in MH. Also I'd much rather have this game on a portable, as my wife uses the TV a lot and I'll never get as much playtime as I do on 3DS.

I'm happy you're all getting a console MH, I know lots of people here have been dying for that. Hope they bring out a portable one later on for people like me.

I really miss the farm.

It was always a big part of the MH experience for me.

I do hope this will be portable later, probably not on the Switch, but I assume it's spec'd to high to run natively.

PC release maybe? :[

Swimming is still confirmed for no? yes?

I wanted to fight HD Gobul again

I can see this running on Switch. Also it is coming to PC slightly later than consoles. I don't think swimming is coming back, and good riddance.

The best thing they did in regards to mining/gathering is getting rid of charms, so you don't need to go mining in the volcano for a tiny chance at getting a decent charm. Good riddance!

Charms were the fucking worst thing introduced in the series.

While I also hated swimming, but that fight with the giant whale thing was the best in all of MH's giant monster fights.

Glory days doesn't mean back to basics.

I've played every MH that's released in the West. While 3, 4, and Gen all brought something new to the table (and I loved all of them), they didn't majorly mix up the formula. Improved camera controls don't mean much when you don't have a real second joystick imo (PSP situation was miserable lol).

This game seems to be bringing the largest jump in features and QOL the series has seen since MHFU->MHP3. Opening up the environments alone is a massive game changer. That, wrapped up in modern conveniences of new hardware and a jump in QOL (including all of the nice things from the 3DS titles)... not sure why people are taking issue with his statement at all.

I haven't seen anyone say that MH was a ship that needed righting, but it's pretty apparent the games have stagnated a bit because they were limited by their hardware. Even the devs have said so.
Tri doesn't just bring something new to the table. It is the leap that turned Monster Hunter from something good when solo, great when coop, to all time classic game. Tri ditch all the chicken wyvern monsters besides the Rath and Diablos, which they have reworked the animation and hitboxes, and introduces brute wyvern and leviathan that pretty much changed the flow of combat. Gone the day where monsters are using instant 360 tail spin attack, oversized hipcheck, headcharging without windup and all of that cheap shit. That FU-P3rd leap wouldn't happened without Tri taking the leap.

The portable game are great and people who dismissed it should've check their head, but come on, let's not downplay the leap they take with Tri and credit it to a different game.
As for 'glory days', all I'm going to say is every release of Monster Hunter is a glory day and I'll leave it at that.
'Glory days' seems just a crying of people that long for objectively worse game from the past just because those game are on console or their platform of choice.
I think what GearFourth means is worldwide XBox, not just Japan.
Oh that's what he meant. But I still think it is just an afterthought for Capcom though, most of the trailers seems still to be released on PS youtube channel.

Did you play the base Monster Hunter Tri? Without subspecies the high rank became just a 2nd run of low rank with two new monsters. This game isn't reusing assets so I doubt it'll have that many unique monsters, so without sub-species I could see that issue happening again. Subspecies definitely should be in.
MHGen taught me to love and appreciate post-Tri subspecies.

Seriously, MH4U subspecies taking is the definite way to go since it is where they managed to reuse assets and renew old monster at the same time. Fighting only one species of each monster get boring quick.

Really? Ceadeus is cool and the way they handled the scale of it was rather impressive, but he's really boring to fight. I was really surprised that they did virtually nothing to spice up the Goldbeard variant, since he's probably the easiest G-rank initiation fight ever. At least he's a great source for money in MH3U, since his drops are generous and they're worth a ton for how easy it is to get them!

Oh I don't mean the camera. I guess I forgot diablo had the option to have random drop in. Was more curious as in diablo you had 4 max in the town hub, but Destiny had like 20+ or so people and you group up with people in the hub before heading out. Not really sure how much monster Hunter evolved with the multiplayer aspect of the game.
