They've got their work cut out for them. The thing about the original Deus Ex was that taken in isolation, every aspect of it was actually pretty bad: stealth was completely broken, gunplay was fairly boring, the stats augmentations had too many useless and dead-end upgrade paths, the art was ugly, the story was ridiculous. And yet somehow it was more than the sum of its parts. Every deficit in one area was somehow by balanced out by a deficit somewhere else.
That kind of thing is impossible to do twice, so the makers of this game are seemingly trying to make up for it by nailing the fundamentals, which is the best thing they could have done.
