The original Monster Hunter was a PS2 game. Count the number of functions you've just described and compare that to the number of shoulder buttons on the Dual Shock 2.Raonak said:

R was for dashing and special attack
L was center camera when tapped, select/use item when held down.
It's like they were intentionally trying to make the controlls complicated. Would have been good to offload some of the buttons to the directions, then use L/R as camera.

Curious to see NA numbers.

ExcellentI have a feeling post-price cut 3DS sales will surprise many people. Some of those predictions are embarrassingly low.
Nuclear Muffin said:Very good sales, about time we saw some good news for the machine!
Of course it all depends on whether or not Nintendo can keep up that momentum.
mutsu said:Between September and beginning of November, probably will continue to be "slow"-ish. But once we hit November and release of Super Mario 3D Land, then we will definitely start to see a huge spike again.
likeGdid said:Was going to go either 3DS or Vita wherever Monster Hunter went, but since the price drop I'd probably get a 3DS soon and a Vita way way later
regarding controls, if it does go to 3DS:
L/R: camera control
Slider: Running movement
D-pad: Walking
Item management: touchscreen
B:Roll/crouch
X/A: Generally attack moves
Y: Special Attack
EDIT: Wait, I forgot Guard and other things. Forget it. Back to the claw.

I look forward to our new 3DS overlords.

How does the touch screen "d-pad" control works? Using a stylus would "handicap" you from using the other buttons without dropping the stylus first (or maybe you can use your pinkie, but that sounds kinda clunky to me).Nuclear Muffin said:Wow you're not very creative are you?
Weapon Sheathed
This is pretty good. I think those 4 items on the top could be quick mixing instead, which would make bomb runs a lot easier. Button-like camera controls on the touch screen along with the d-pad should make it really easy to control the camera at all times.Nuclear Muffin said:

Ah ok, i see. Using your thumb would make more sense indeed. Then i can see that it works betterNuclear Muffin said:You would use your thumb. The stylus would not be used at all. It works perfectly fine in SM64DS (and the 3DS actually has a more responsive resistive touch screen than the original DS, so it would work even better here!) and considering that the MH series doesn't use analog camera controls anyway (even MH3 Tri uses digital camera controls when you use the analog stick), it doesn't make a difference.
Using the gyro, you could even do the underwater sections that they had to cut out of MH Portable 3!
BUT I CAN BUY MOBILE GAMES FOR A BUCK!gofreak said:Very good news. The specialist game device market isn't going to just evaporate, despite the bandwagon of doom-mongering that's been going on of late.

What is digital camera controls by the way?
Oh right, digital = just on and off (no sensitivity in between, either the camera moves or it doesnt). I havnt played any MH games yet, so thanks for the infoNuclear Muffin said:Basically, there's no analog sensitivity when using the camera in Monster Hunter. You can't tilt the analog stick slightly and see the camera move slowly like in most other games.
In the console MH games, the 2nd analog stick basically acts like a D-pad, so you can move the camera left, right, up and down at only one speed (unlike most other 3rd person games where you can make the camera move in different directions and at different speeds)

Nope. The claw started with the original monster hunter, with right stick analogue camera control being first introduced in Tri.Nuclear Muffin said:Wasn't there multiple controller options in MH 1 & 2? (I've never played the PS2 games so I don't really know) The "claw" is something that is unique to the PSP versions so I'm sure that there must've been an option to use the 2nd stick for the camera in the PS2 games!

Huh? The first Monster Hunter was a PS2 game. It had this weird control scheme where the 2nd stick controlled the attacks, not the camera.Tenbatsu said:Nvm, misread
Yea I misread it just now. The analog attack control scheme is not weird, its pretty innovative actually.M3d10n said:Huh? The first Monster Hunter was a PS2 game. It had this weird control scheme where the 2nd stick controlled the attacks, not the camera.
