Nintendo Downloads - November 2010

Playing through Robox and I kind of like it, but its also really flawed in a lot of its design decisions.

Anyways right now Im stuck on the goddamn bee hive midboss. Does anyone know if I need to attack the hive (which the arena design and my shots connecting with the hive seem to imply I must do) or if I just need to kill the bees?
The robot is also now spawning on the hive for some reason so I have to do the fight with only two pieces of health which is annoying.

Expected. They have spent so long developing it fully now that they probably want to make sure they make money on it this time around. That and Nifflas' PC fanbase complained constantly about it being WiiWare-only.

As for whether or not the release happens at the same time, that is going to be a problem. Nintendo has told devs in the past when the games would release only to be incorrect. I suspect the WiiWare version will be first, but that would be optimistic. WiiWare's luck when it comes to releases has been very poor (Super Meat Boy's shift to retail, Cave Story's delay to hell, No Puzzle Agent, etc).

I'm curious what Nicalis is working on once NightSky is finished, though. Cave Story DSi looks done, and Nigoro is handling all of its projects (La-Mulana on WiiWare looks to be an early 2011 release now). So, that leaves Nicalis without projects in the next three-to-four months. Any guesses? More Nifflas or Pixel games?

blu

Wants the largest console games publisher to avoid Nintendo's platforms.
Gods vs Humans looks yummy. Who's taking one for the team? I'd do it myself if my wii was here.

Expecting VC today. Maybe Rival Turf!? also, people on gamefaqs are saying they see the demo for Sonic 4 Ep1 on the Nintendo channel appear.

Would be nice to see Faxanadu, as I am pretty positive Japan has received it and (I think) Europe has as well.

Or has the game not been ESRB'd yet?

listen to the mad man
Balls are thrown and players must use the stylus to guide the puppy and collect balls.

The use of the passive voice here is bizarre. The player is not the puppy, since the players use the stylus to guide the puppy, but since the passive voice is used for "balls are thrown", the player isn't throwing the ball either. So there's some sort of ball throwing robot that throws the ball, and then the player and the puppy work together to go fetch the ball?

Japan got it back in early October, Europe is supposed to get it this month, but hasn't yet, and it isn't ESRB rated yet.

To be honest, all I'm taking away from that description is "balls"...

Update coming later today...

Would the Need for Speed be good?

Possibly. The retail NFS Nitro from last year is supposed to be decent, and I imagine this is just a cut-down version of the retail game.

A dog racing game? Awesome. Does it include a "greyhound hospice" mode? Maybe we can get a dog fighting game next!

There's something I don't understand with Nintendo.

It's the biggest time of the year and they release NOTHING!! We are served 99% crap for the whole year on their shitty download platforms and at the end of the year you can only see that they weren't even holding anything off. wtf

Wiiware's holiday season usually starts in late November. This year fluidity is their big title, and Mario Party 2 is probably the big VC title.

WiiWare is such a hit or miss. On one hand we have the superb ReBirth titles, Cave Story etc and on another hand we have all of this "family friendly" casual shovelware garbage. I would kill for new 16bit or even 8bit style console games.

Last year it was early November with Excitebike: World Rally and Pokemon Rumble the week after.

The year before it was at the end of September with The first batch of art style titles.

This year...one title! I think Mario Party 2 will be out due to the anniversary though, but other than that, I expect nothing else from Nintendo themselves.

There are 22 announced VC games left. add in three more(Windjammers, rival turf, and super earth defense force) and that makes 25 or north america. http://vc.nintendolife.com/games/soon

Once these are out the way we'll be looking forward to their 400th game, which should be special! I hope it's Pilotwings 64 though Yoshi's Island might be more appropriate.

I don't really know if this is the place to ask but, are any Gaffers getting a 'Site is in Maintence" message when they try to go onto the shop channel?

Because it's happening for me just when I was going to go buy a game :(

Yoshi's Island sounds like the obvious candidate to me considering that we already know that it's gonna be one of the 3DS' "Classics in 3D" games!

At least we never got Full Blast Hitchhike.

Its over now but there were two maintenance periods for Europe:
09/11 19:00-23:00CET
16/11 19:00-3:00CET
Looks like you were near the end of the second one.

PS_MAGICAL_DROP_II_rdax_90x69.jpg

Magical Drop II (Neo Geo) is confirmed as the next VC title for Europe. This marks yet another unannounced title for EU hitting this year. Unfortunately, the release is set for December 3, 2010, so that means no VC this week nor the next for EU.

http://www.nintendo.co.uk/NOE/en_GB/games/virtual_console_1778.html

Edit: The original four announced titles by Nintendo of Europe were:

Street Hoops -- October
Faxanadu -- November
Super Bonk -- December
Mario Party 2 -- December

So I guess Faxanadu is delayed?

I've been playing Snapdots.

Does anyone know if the people behind Guru Logic Champ worked on this game, or whether this game has stolen not just the mechanics, but entire levels?

D4 Enterprise absorbed Aiky who was the shell company all the non-Puyo Puyo franchise rights* went to when Compile died (funnily enough Aiky was run by the same person, doesn't this usually happen with IP and dying companies?).

So for all intents and purposes D4 Enterprise, the developers own Guru Logic Champ and its gameplay mechanics. That said, I am curious if any of the development team are shared between the titles (probably not, IIRC most of Compile went onto Compile Heart or Milestone depending on their expertise).

*-I think this gets a little weird with regards to Madou Mogonarti due to SEGA technically owning the characters due to their appearance in Puyo Puyo.

Edit: Here is the real facepalm moment for me...the Japanese name is...Kaiten Illust Puzzle: Guru Guru Logic. Hmm...

Well at least it when it comes out it won't be like Cave Story...oh wait, that also got rejected.
Well, least this ensures Europe has Cave story before North America has La Mulana, right, right? :lol NoE + Wiiware releases :lol
Fuck region locking. Seriously.

Speaking of Europe. You're getting Shantae in 3-8 weeks. Guess its having to swim across the Atlantic or maybe its decided to go via the Pacific and Russia.

Glad there are demo's now. I was tempted to get Bit Trip fate till I noticed the demo and found out how horrible it is.

they are thinking about a retail release on Wii. nothings confirmed by now though :/
They were struggling with the file size. They would rather a retail release then release a cut-down product or episodic (I think the tweet about this one called Sonic 4 a sham).

It is 90.4 MB on XBLA. I don't know how much space can be saved because I don't know the current state of graphics and music (going from streamed > sequenced saves lots of space but can hit quality and needs an engine capable of playing back the samples correctly, see Cave Story for how this goes wrong*)

I guess it shows you what happens when you forget what your lead platform is halfway through development/change direction thanks to some money generously given.

*-Old version had sequenced new music which didn't work properly. New version has sequenced old music which adds a slight load.
