As any customer of Nintendo's various DD services can tell you, they certainly aren't lacking in great software. Unfortunately, what they do lack is a great interface to show off that software. That's where GAF comes in!

Included below is a list of recommendation and review threads to give you a few ideas about where to spend your Nintendo Points - and where not to!

Channels.gif

Nintendo will occasionally make new Channels available through the Wii Shop, or update the system firmware of the Wii and DSi with new features. Any new Channels or updates will be listed here.

Thanks :)

Sorry for the late update this week. Japan's games will be coming soon, and I've a little tidying up still to do.

re: Demos. I'll be listing WiiWare demos alongside WiiWare releases, and as they will be rotating at an unspecified interval, I think I'll just leave the demos up until they're retired (be it a week, a month or whatever) at which point I'll put a strikethrough on old demos and pull them from the list the following month.

Sound sensible?

I might try a couple of the demos.

That said I downloaded the Crystal Chronicles tower defence demo last time around and I've never touched it.

I thought it was the best one, but the game was more than I wanted to pay. Ironically I was going to buy World of Goo due to user rating and hated the demo.

Sorry to ask, but... how do you download demos? Or are they only for specific games?

Demos aren't a shop function. Basically there will be an additional section in the game genres for demos where a select few titles will have demo versions. It's basically downloading 0 point WiiWare games.

I haven't had chance to log on to my Wii to check yet, but as I understand it there should be a section of the Wii Shop set aside for WiiWare demos now (and yes, they are specific games only at the moment).

You just download the demo as you would download any other WiiWare or Virtual Console title.

Thanks a lot. I will look for that section when I get home :)

BTW. Don't you think that Nintendo Store need a "deal of the week" equivalent? XBL, PSN and Valve have it. :-S

I think the Wii Shop needs a lot of things that it doesn't currently have, but we're stuck with what we've got for now :)

If the leap from the DSi Shop to the 3DS Shop (from what we've seen so far) is any indication, Nintendo's Wii2 digital store should be far, far better, but that doesn't help us now!

Better organisation, sales, more price points, proper accounts, more demos, ratings, a decent search engine... there are loads of improvements that we could use.

Everyone thinks that. Older games definitely need some spotlight.

Opened the DSiStore tonight, saw Bookworm, was happy about it, wanted to download, searched for it everywhere, doublechecked and saw "only in uk, ireland, australia and nz" FUCK YOU :(

needs to be added to the op that it's Aussie as well.

Will add that in a mo - the press release I saw just said UK/Ireland, but if it's available elsewhere I'll note it.

Some thoughts on the demos.

I think I am sold on jett rocket, like a mini Mario Galaxy, not as good, but still good bit of fun, and the graphics are amazing. Jett looks like he is straight out of something from CBeeBies though.

ThruSpace was surprisingly fun.

Zombie Panic in Wonderland was kind of disappointing, nice art style but it feels like i'm shooting zombies with a spud gun or something, the gun doesn't feel very powerful at all.

Furry Legends oddly felt like playing a PSone game, but for all the wrong reasons, has the weirdest attack controls, hold Z, aim with control stick, then shake the wiimote.
I keep trying to shake the wiimote into the direction I'm aiming ugh it's weird, they could have just made it lock on and done away with the control stick aiming.
The character looks really dopey as well, like he is a bit brain damaged or something.
Framerate isn't great either.

Thanks :) Had been meaning to make a change for a while, and I finally got a chance to sit down and come up with something. Not completely happy with it, but it'll do!

It's directly at the bottom of the "new releases of nov 5th in the DSiStore. There's the whole description of Bookworm in German and then this. :(

Like other have said there needs to be more than sales. Though, last Christmas there was that SEGA sale where some Megadrive games were dropped in price. Personally, if there are sales I'd also like to see a way of buying the things without logging a Wii onto the Wii Shop (you can purchase PSN and XBLA without connecting to their services, right?), though in a way there already is (download tickets from NoA and Amazon.com but the titles are limited and USA only).

Until then as far as sales go I bought a load of Wii points at a good deal so effectively my next 10,000 points of purchases are at about 30% off anyway.

did you change to the other weapons(shotgun, heavy machine gun, flame thrower)? the standard weapon is weak. I only use it for normal enemies.

Miyamoto mentioned in the investor Q and A that during November they are going to release new (free) download software allowing anyone to make and broadcast image/text/audio combinations.

So, shops can broadcast special offers, restaurants can broadcast today's specials, and I don't know... gamers can broadcast their gamertags to their neighbours without ever meeting.

Might be pretty cool.

Uh - what happened to the Jett Rocket and Zombie Panic demos? I went to grab them just now, but the only two up are for Thruspace and Furry Legends.

My thoughts exactly.
I used to hate these worthless DSIware releases, but the Bombcast actually makes me happy they come out.

Fuck Yeah! Disco Light!

I think Nintendo should really consider ad supported games for 3DS. And/Or allow users to build custom apps via Javascript and HTML 5.

From a PR I just saw in my inbox:

capcom pr said:
This winter, Capcom is bringing its classic arcade titles to the Nintendo Wii’s Virtual Console Arcade. As previewed at New York Comic Con, six titles will be released in all: SONSON, 1942, Ghosts’n Goblins, Black Tiger, EXED EXES, and Commando: Wolf of the Battlefield. These old-school classics will challenge and bemuse veteran gamers and introduce a new generation to Capcom’s arcade roots. All six titles will be available through the Virtual Console download service in both the US and Europe.

1942 – This classic vertically-scrolling shoot 'em up is perhaps Capcom's finest moment in the pre-Street Fighter era. Spawning a million clones and re-appearing throughout the history of gaming, 1942's biplane action needs no introduction. And now, for the first time on the Wii, the original and best version.

Black Tiger – Fight your way through colorful, action-packed levels in this 1987 arcade classic. Explore huge, sprawling levels as a powerful barbarian, seeking to defeat menacing bosses. Plus, upgrade your character with one of the first inventory and power-up systems ever built.

Commando: Wolf of the Battlefield – Experience the Capcom arcade game that spawned a multitude of clones as the original Commando comes to your living room courtesy of the Virtual Console Arcade. Take control of Super Joe and shoot your way—in all eight directions—towards the enemy's territory, using grenades to wreak havoc with enemy placements in this seminal genre creator.

EXED EXES – A retro classic from Capcom's arcade line-up in 1985, Exed Exes is a vertically-scrolling shooter that's sure to bring back fond memories. Dodge bullets! Collect fruit! And go for high scores in the most furious sci-fi insectoid shoot 'em up ever made.

Ghosts ’n Goblins – Ghosts ‘n Goblins is a classic game that packs a heavy punch (and lance). Experience the smash arcade hit from 1985 as you help Arthur defeat hordes of monsters in his attempt to rescue the princess. The first (and possibly only) game in which taking a hit reduces you to your underwear.

SONSON – Experience the original adventures of the Monkey King in this action-packed side scrolling adventure. Rapidly switch between different levels of play to shoot dangerous enemies in the face! A truly original concept, this quirky, old skool arcade classic has been a rare find in the west since its arcade debut in 1984. Until now!

For the latest assets, visit Capcom's press center at http://press.capcom.com. For information on this story, head on over to the Capcom blog at http://www.capcom-unity.com. Also if you're on Facebook, you can check out the Capcom Arcade Classics fan page here.

Here's some gameplay footage from Donkey Kong: Original Edition: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeXz_R8WLYI&feature=player_embedded

The only way to get this game thus far is to purchase the LE Red Wii in Europe. Grrrrr. Release this on the VC Nintendo! Dammit!!!
Wait, what is that? And when do we get DK Arcade? Nintendo, do you remember that there was a DK arcade game? No? Oh.

EDIT: I see, it adds back the cement factory. Rat bastards.

Cosmonaut X said:
So, looking at that and the Wiki entry it seems as though this is the NES version ported with the cement factory level reinstated?

I think that's the case. I don't think the cement factory level has ever been ported before, so I guess this would be it's first time being ported and viewed with NES-level graphics (The DK64 version is an exact arcade port).

I believe when it happened to me, it was instantaneous. The points never left the account. If for some reason it took a bit, I'm sure the points would be refunded with the notice, though.

Sonson, like from MVC2? Thats awesome!

I don't know about their appearance in that, but it's a fun little auto-scrolling platform shooter. I might pick it up for $5 (although it's $8 in Japan).

T-Rex Rumble on DSiWare sounds kinda nice. Downloaded right away. Woah does this look good. I read about some flaws. Need to check it out myself over the weekend. I like it so far.

That seems to be the case. This new version also has an added animation, where DK carries off Pauline after beating each level. That was present in the arcade game and DK '94, but not in the prior NES port.

oh my god they just couldn't let a nintendo published game have the same title in europe and america. they just couldn't.

Of course not - where's the fun in that? I used to think there was an issue with names being available for use in America but not in Europe, but now I think they've just a localisation team who enjoy winding everyone up :)

BTW - can anyone help put together the releases for Japan from mid-October to date? The usual sites don't seem to be listing them anymore, and I haven't had chance to trawl Nintendo's Japanese sites to try and identify and translate releases at the mo. Cheers!

I don't know where to look for the other stuff, but here are the virtual console releases for JP from Mid Oct till now:

October 19, 2010 -- albert Odyssey (Super Famicom)
November 2, 2010 -- Mario Party 2 (N64)
