Nintendos Q4 2012 Report : About WiiU

True, but it's his job to communicate as the head of software the required resources to work on the company projects, that way the CEO can authorize the staffing/facility/budget changes. It seems that Miyamoto failed to properly measure the changes/challenges that having 1 HD console to develop along side the 3DS required. It was his job to express the increased resources needed in order to comply with the forecasted schedule for the software projects.

really? M&A projects are usually not done or triggered by production managers. usually they are either triggered through strategic decisions of the upper management level or in cases were good opportunities arise (bancruptcy of companies in the same field for example). in many cases only the CEO and CFO and a few people are aware of such intention to keep the purchasing price down too. i dont think miyamoto ever was in a position to trigger M&A projects.

Q. What about NFC

Iwata : there are two trends. one is with figurines or cards. We are currently working with developers on this and we will see various games this year.

The other one is E-money payment. we are also working on this.

So I'm guessing there will be a NFC Pokemon game or a skylanders rip with Nintendo characters.

I don't think this is off-topic, but I just want to know any possible reasons why they decided to release GBA games on the Wii U VC? I thought maybe all 3 Mother games are on the GBA, so they are going to put them on VC.

Smash Bros.

Smash Bros. isn't like Skylanders though. I doubt they would do something like Skylanders with Nintendo characters.

I hope MarioKart U isn't rushed. I'm seriously not getting it if the battle mode is still shit. I just want classic rules for spiltscreen play at the very least Nintendo. Online battle mode with classic rules would be nice but I'll settle for spilt screen.

Well does anyone know how Mario Kat 7 does it for local play? I know online is points based, and thankfully not in teams.

It's good that Nintendo are aware that a lot of people know and are vocal about the hardwares power and Nintendo still feel that the public are underestimating it. Makes me feel that Nintendo didn't just shove any old CPU in there but made sure the system is balanced, and when used right can show good results.

Is NFC payment used actively anywhere in the world? What is the advantage of using this instead of using a creditcard or entering a redeem code?

NFC could potentially eliminate the braindead Age restriction in the European E-shop. Sell certified 18+ NFC tokens at Gamestop with age control by the store, and use these tokens to access 18+ content. Either through a one time unlock or through a case by case basis.

Battle mode being shit is almost certain at this point. What makes you think that suddenly they would go back to the N64 rulesets.

If they at least offered those rules, that would be enough.

It's so awesome to see Genyo Takeda still involved in hardware development at Nintendo. The man was a key figure in the development of the freaking Famicom!

I commented a good year back on my concerns Nintendo would struggle with the tech levels of the PS3, 360 because they'd been working on gamecube level specs for 10+ years. Fact they have brought in developers to help that process is hugely positive.

It will be crazy if all the games announced (except for the Zelda, of course) in the ND are to be released by the end of 2013. I think a great E3 is coming.

So Iwata going all-in for this year confirmed?

The man has nothing to lose, he's going to give everything to get your money. Either he wins gloriously or he loses and is fired and go work as a hair model.

Beware Sony and Microsoft and behold the fury of a man that fights until his last strengths

No, just no.

Then why did you state Smash Bros.? Did you mean they already have a character crossover?

Basically. It's a game featuring many Nintendo characters in it, like the poster mentioned. Disney Infinity has many Disney characters in it, and uses the Skylanders method of scanning characters, but it's not a similar game to Skylanders.

Miyamoto : For High End graphics there is a hurdle, since we have to reeducate our people. The development itself hasnt changed but we are recruiting specialists that can become core members in each specialized area. External Developers are used to shader techniques and we are collaborating a lot with external companies nowadays so we have a very good development structure.

I knew that Nintendo will have trouble developing HD games. It´s very dumb of them not to have prepared for this since 2009-2010. Recruiting people now and in the past year, is a bit late to get as many games out out by this year or the next.

I don't think it has to do with being rushed but yeah, Battle Mode has been an after afterthought for some time in the series and it's a shame(it's my favorite mode or used to be).

However, with the controller, I think it could spur some interesting ideas for it and while that's not what you seem to be hoping for, maybe it also leads to more options or customization.

7's Battle Mode at least wasn't that team-only nonsense but it still isn't quite there though it was ok.

They need to realize that some swore by the Battle Mode from the N64 game.

Iwata : we are not thinking about a long timeframe. We are thinking about Mid year up to End of the year 2013. We also have games that are slated for end of the year that we havent mentioned yet.
If this isn't a mistranslation, then wow. A lot of the complaining about the ND, including some of my own, was based on the idea that these games were very far out.

They actually started this quite some time ago.

to be honest its not enough. they should have aggresively bought HD developers&publishers with experience. its not like there werent enough options. unlike most of the publishers nintendo has no problem with IP and brands. what they lack is people with HD development experience

Hope that the new 3D Mario and Retro Studios game come out this year. It will have been three years since DKCR at the end of this year. Those two and Yoshi's Epic Yarn will be great enough for Holiday 2013 from Nintendo I think.

For people trying to lay out Nintendo's schedule, here's what's official for the west:

LEGO City: Undercover (March 2013)
Wii U Panorama View (Spring 2013) eShop only
Game & Wario (Spring/Summer 2013) *March in Japan
Wii Fit U (Spring/Summer 2013)
Pikmin 3 (Spring/Summer 2013)
The Wonderful 101 (Spring/Summer 2013)
Wii Party U (Summer 2013)
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (Fall 2013)

Everything else is tba:

Yarn Yoshi
Super Mario
Mario Kart
X
Bayonetta 2
Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem
Super Smash Bros.
The Legend of Zelda

This happies me. :D
Retro shooter and Monster racer and DOA5 port with Samus and DQX localization. And probably lots of eShop stuff.

I wonder if they seperate Wii U and the 3DS conference like last year. And hopefully have 3DS content. Or at least make a longer conference if you don't have enough time with 1 hour so its not too cramped with taking and taking and... well... taking!

for the games from mid year to end of year, I'll believe it when they are shipped. Right now it's still a lot of talk and nothing confirmed.

You can do NFC payment using a credit card.

Well if they go the same way as last year I hope they'll have something worthwhile to show this time around. 3DS conference last year wasn't exactly the most interesting thing in the world.

this had been my worry for a while... I wondered after generations of SD was the jump to HD a greater challenge for them than others?

Reeducation sounds like it takes time to get that Nintendo Quality up to the desired levels

Yeah, I use my phone (which has NFC) to buy stuff at vending machines sometimes. It's pretty convenient. It'd be a nice solution to be able to easily buy stuff on the eShop without Nintendo having to store your credit card information on their servers long term.

Say they have prepayed nfc cards. You wouldnt be needing to put a 25 letter code in.

I can see the advantage of that, but are cards like that used a lot? Especially the pre-paid cards.

NFC could potentially eliminate the braindead Age restriction in the European E-shop. Sell certified 18+ NFC tokens at Gamestop with age control by the store, and use these tokens to access 18+ content. Either through a one time unlock or through a case by case basis.
I thought it was some general rule that stopped this (accessing 18+ content outside of a certain time frame). But if it would work, then it is something positive indeed.

"Buying" an FSK18 NFC key wich you can only get through age check in stores would be awesome. You click on ZombiU on the eShop and it asks you for your nfc key. One swipe later you can access it and purchase it any time. I would be cool with that. Great idea you had there.

Could also enable FSK18 gametrailers on the eShop with that technique!

Miyamoto : It takes time to understand the charm of wiiu.

Right, and when you finally express that understanding, maybe I'll reconsider buying one. I'm not in the habit of dropping $350 and then waiting for something to prove its "charm." I doubt many people are.

Stop trying to sell this thing with promises, and just make some flipping games.

Would be amazing if everything announced at the last direct managed to release somewhere this year.

This is Nintendo though, I expect that to not happen.

Awesome news for Wii U owners. The hardware isn't as weak as a lot of peiple think it is. 2nd wave games are going to have that wow factor. I cant wait.

Holy shit, how do they still have unannounced tittles?
And also, it's going to be
This year:
3D Mario and Mario Kart
Next year:
Smash Bros 4 and Retro's game
?

I'm cautiously optimistic, seems everything i've been saying they have been doing in one form or another. Still think they should bring in someone from the outside to shake things up a bit, help modernize them and their tactics some though.

And this holding back announcements until some arbitrary time needs to stop. It's obvious they do it now, so who knows what the hell they have coming out for the system. At this point any guess would be valid.

I'm not sure exactly what he's referring to there, but it's a terrible answer. All I know is that the more I played games that went from the TV to the screen to the TV to the screen, I wanted to shut off the device. There was nothing charming about it.
