What is better: Shaidak's Generation or Big Things 3.0?

Been using Shaidak, but I feel it pulls from a very limited pool of objects for generation as every frozen planet seems to have the same trees and all tropical planets also seem to have the same really tall flat mushroom trees without variance besides recolor.

I'm hoping Big Things does the same in terms of size and density, but varies the "pool" of models to not just use the same on every planet "type."

On first glance, it doesn't look like your textures actually changed, it's just the overall change to the visuals. I'm assuming that old pic is pre-Path Finder? In Path Finder they added filters and changed the default look. The closest filter to the old look is Vintage, but that doesn't accurately reproduce the original look (unfortunately). So try changing the filter to Vintage and see if the ship colors look a bit more desaturated and pastel-ish like it used to.
I think he's referring to the decals which are pixelated in the second pic.

I feel like I've seen a lot more variety than that in Big Things screenshots

Did they add new words in one of the patches or something? I was maxed out on both Korvax and Gek, with 50+% done with Vykeen before 1.3, but now I'm learning Gek words again for some reason >_< Still no fix for displaying a correct amount of learned stuff etc.

New patch looks great though, so many non-game breakers I've noticed. Keep it up!

I've been using Shaidak's for 10+ hours and I'm pretty happy with it. Lush biomes in particular are so much more better. I tested Big Things on a few of the same planets and it didn't really add as much to be honest. Big Things seems to be more extreme, so some planets will barely be affected at all while other will be a lot. It's all pretty random so it's hard to properly test.

Btw whoever posted awhile back about slamming right on that d pad to find ships. 100% the truth. Found 4 or 5 in 20ish minutes.

No keepers (two S tiers with 19 slots..........) but still finding way more ships that way

33 slots already fixed some of that were broke so I'm very happy with it so far. Now I'm needing one more platinum to advance the base mission.

How can i clear waypoints from planets? Even if i visit an abandoned base it always seems to show as a location.

What does that mean and how do you do it lol?

Wow. Are they PS4, Pro or PC?

I don't know, I can't keep up. I just save a bunch of shots from reddit.

But I think the top and the bottom are both PC shots. The bottom probably uses the lush grass distance mod. The second to last is probably a PS4 shot, or at least PC shot with no mods. The panoramic shots are probably PC unmodded. Probably a lot simpler to do a shot like that on PC as opposed to PS4.

Oh okay, I see it now. I actually kinda dig the 8-bit look, but yeah...the parent poster should definitely file a bug on that. The ship itself sure looks cleaner though; I had forgotten how aliased the launch version of the game looked.

Welp, the experimental patch bricked my game. Investigating to see which mods have been affected.

I'm honestly surprised HG even allows (or makes it easy for) mods to exist. It must be a serious headache for them to be inundated by crash reports because of broken mods. If I was an indie dev supporting this many players, I don't think I'd do it.

Finally my diligence is rewarded! A class fighter, 38 slots.

What does that mean and how do you do it lol?
You literally cruise around hitting right on the d pad.

It's what you use in battle to lock on to enemies, but incidentally, also locks on to crashed ships.

Any point on holding Trade Commodities (Star Silk, Commet Droplets) and Tech Parts (Welding Soap, Ion Capacitaror) early in the game? I have them, but it seems I can't do anything with them :/

I still have not found one ship. I keep pressing right on the d-pad .... nothing.

I mean it takes a little bit of time.

Didn't do it enough to know if you should boost or not while looking either

I will try some more. I need a better ship. My repairs are unbelievable. I actually warped to my first system away from the starting one. I am on a lush planet for once! Not sure what to do. Hah!

So, as a newcomer how does this all work? Does the 30 hour story mode become immediately available? Is it only after certain events in the game occur? I'm curious to come back into it.

The new patch fixed my specialists so I was finally able to finish off the quests (again). I had to delete and rebuild their stations though.

I then went on looking for drop pods. The new backpack slots are a nice addition and I have enough cash to buy them all if I can find enough drop pods. Is there any benefit to putting stuff in the tech slots, or is it just another slot?

The new quest line appeared to me after jumping to a new star system, then u shall receive an incoming message in you ship that starts the new quest line.

Tech slots are exclusive to put tech on them, u cant put anything else there, so better fill them with your tech mods to gain extra space in the general inventory.

Can you check if u have the recipe to craft the materials needed to craft an holo door?

I did all the especialists quests again, but i cant craft a holo door cuz i dont have the recipe for one of the ingredients.

So I traded my Hauler which I found for an A class Shuttle. It was only 20K out of pocket and it has 23 open slots, vs the 16 I had on my broken one (max 26). I couldnt afford it. Probably a dumb move. No idea.

only a dumb move if you don't prefer the new ship.

Why does this planet in a system I discovered have a name already and is described as unmapped instead of undiscovered like other planets? Also, what do these white bullseye markers mean?

Wow...was flying in this new system and the asteroids were all crystaline blocks and spikey things. Never saw that before

Planets discovered pre-1.3 seem to retain their original name and discoverer until you land on them, at which point they're re-discovered by you.

As a newcomer as well, the new Awakenings story starts immediately when you begin the game (might need to hop in your ship first, but still). The old Atlas story I haven't actually gotten yet; though I've only made one warp and I think you need to make a few more before it pops up. I don't know what it was like exactly before, but so far the Awakenings story has been guiding me along how to do stuff and taking me different places which I don't think happened before.

Actually I think that happens when you scan a planet but haven't landed on it. I noticed a planet name popped up for me when I scanned it, though like you it said unmapped. I'll have to try it again sometime.

Yeah, but how did I "discover" the system? Wouldn't the other player have done that?
ooooh, yeah. It was probably discovered/named before 1.3 and then altered in the 1.3 patch when the universe changed. I rediscovered one of my own planets in the system I was in after the patch.

only a dumb move if you don't prefer the new ship.

So I just found a broken Class A Hauler with the same amount of open spots but the potential of 48. I figured why not and I grabbed it.

My question is with the value. It is worth WAY more vs my old ship. Does the value actually mean anything? Repairing a tech slot is like 850K! A General is at 30K (first repair)

I mean it's pretty literal- it would carry that value being traded in for another ship.

Not sure if it's a bug or intentional, but it will show the value as though all slots are repaired. If they aren't, the value is less, which you'll see when you try to trade for something else.

Also, congrats, that's a max slot ship I think

This is what I though. That I would not actually get that value. As a class A, is it worth actually spending all that moola to fix (will take me AGES)

Edit: How do I get a Dynamic Resonator so I can get the Hyperdrive working? I can not make one

Buy it at a station or trading post.

Yeah, I think that was it. It changed to me after I landed

Weird. Now I'm stuck on a freighter and it won't let me leave

Usually for sale in a space stations.

I also can't craft one yet and yet I've been asked many times to build something with that in it. The description always reads that I can craft it. It's weird.

hanging out in a trading post,on foot. He(She?) was just chatting with a Gek

Some of you guys' posts on finding ships :O i'm jelly

Though I think maybe it seems like they improved it with 1.3 (?) and granted most of my crashed ship searching was in 1.2 .... I spent weeks focused on crashed ships and I've been playing since about early June...

And I just only found my first >40 slotter (41 slot C class lol) and highest rank was a B class fighter with 35 slots XD jealous of you guys finding S ranks and 48 slotters haha I read on Reddit some guy said he found a 46 or 48 slotter A or S rank (forget exactly) on his starter planet o.0

took me 5 planets and a week just to find my first 28 slot C class hauler that I am still using stil today lol (those 2 I mentioned above are so expensive to repair haha)

that said, frugal ship inventory repairing is why I was able to afford a Freighter before 1.3 and in hindsight based on the price increases i'm pretty thankful for that prioritization :p

gonna start working on my new Mining Base this week... still sad the patch deleted my 5 AMUs but I got 3 big Elerium deposits at my base now :O literally, like exactly at the edge of the 'base border' limit for how close you can build AMUs

not looking forward to collecting 400 Gamma Root per AMU tho -_-

I'd really like to be able to own multiple ships by using my base's landing pads. It's frustrating that I'm basically stuck with the same ship because I doubt I'll ever be able to afford a freighter. I don't want to sell my current fighter because of the nostalgia factor (I've had it since before the Foundation update), but I really need a hauler to do serious trading. I was fairly close to being able to afford a freighter in 1.2, but with the new prices it's far out of my reach.

Wow. I guess I really lucked out on finding the class A hauler with 48 slots. Even if I have to fix a bunch (and tech slots)

It looks cool too. I wish I could change the colors! I found it in my second system. I just jumped to my 3rd following the awakening quest.

They are patching things quickly which is awesome.

However, they really need to fix the ship scanner on planets showing things 30 minutes to an hour away. Also fix the green question marks not disappearing when saving and the ugly ass white bullseye things(used as waypoints I guess)

I just lost 3hrs completely immersed in the game. The game feels completely different from a year ago. I started doing some missions, then got caught up on the Artemis story-line, then got distracted mining some minerals to unlock all the slots in my ship and finally started the Atlas story-line.

I really hope Hello Games keeps updating the game with more stuff, so it can finally be the game we all wished it was at launch.

On the ship purchasing screen, what is the new button in the centre? The one with the module-arrow-cogs.

Can you transfer upgrades to your new ship? Or does it breakdown upgrades into their components?
