About the 15 hour mark now. Probably 10 for others. I spend too much time doing other things. Anyway, the plot's finally started to get a bit more interesting. Actually hell, it was basically the moment that the shit hit the fan. Given a lot of it was pretty much foreshadowed, it still ended up playing out in a way that was rather entertaining. I'm pretty glad Yoshida was behind the character designs. Seeing one of his characters get demented is a pretty twisted display. On the whole story side of things, I know I really haven't touched upon the characters too much, so I was really thinking about it while playing it last night. Our 2 main lead archetypes actually haven't ever really been touched upon yet in the Tales series. At least I'm pretty sure when I think back thru all those heroes and heroines.
First off we have L'arc, who's pretty steadfast. A serious-minded guy, rather indifferent about the ladies, but mainly cares about everyone's well being. He's also pretty sarcastic and make a few snide comments here and there. (This personality bit fits so much too, since he's Tomoya from Clannad if anyone's seen that) Which eventually does lead into some other misunderstandings. In the end tho, he'll stick to his objective and get it done. I suppose you can say he's not too interesting, but he's not a complete idiot or a complete zealot like some of the other Tales leads I've seen. You can sorta say he's a less interesting Yuri in terms of character motivations and personality.
Next, we have our mysterious girl, Ryfia. You can honestly say shes boring as hell, but the way she composes herself makes up for it. And I don't think I've seen such a Tales char before, at least as the main heroine. Sorta similar to Eureka in Eureka 7, she's pretty emotionless, almost deadpan. She's a bit naive, but not like Collet dumb or something. She'll always keep a positive attitude, but in a really calm and gentle manner. I mean she does have emotion to her, but it's never super energetic or expressive. Sorta more like a "Is that so?" or "Really?" sorta reaction. I suppose coming off as flat pretty much explains it, but it's not the actress' fault, it's just how she was written. Otherwise, she's pretty cute.
That's it for characters for now. I was thinking about writing a little on Nicol since he's actually a pretty amusing char himself. Especially after the events that just transpired, but that'll be for another time.
