no worky. i powered off trough controller. and restarted trough controller. held my thumb on the button. booted straight to game

Yeah...so ummm how do you change games besides:

1. Eject the disc (hold button for 1-2 secs)
2. Power down the system (hold button for 3-4 secs)
3. Power on the system (hold button for 3-4 secs)

Because that's far too long and complicated for just popping one game out and popping another back in. At least with Blu-ray movies it drops you back to the XMB when you eject the movie (but again, I could not find an eject command in the software menu).

Also doesn't it leave their system more open for boot discs and stuff since ejecting a game disc doesn't drop you back to XMB?

As an aside, I forgot to mention that while trying to open my PS3 I slid my finger across the scissor blade pretty fast and OUCH. EXCITED OPENING OF SYSTEM + SCISSORS = BAD IDEA. TAKE WARNING!

Hey, I wrote up a summary of all the important PS3 information so it's accessible from one place. It's a wiki too so if there's any mistakes you can fix it. Most of the information everybody here already knows, but it should act as a good up-to-date reference.

Check it out here.

Yeah EB told me to come within the first 2 hours too. Luckly I'm going to be on vacation at that time. :D

Great job. Very impressive, especially with the videos built in as examples. Good read.

Only thing I noticed is 7.1 not possible through optical out? I'm not sure if that's right.

This is really good, but i noticed one mistake:

"First used with the PSP, the XMB interface makes its second appearance in the PS3"

The PSP wasn't the first device with the XMB. It was used in the PSX before. Also Sony TVs are already using it as far as i know (not sure about this). Oh, and the PS2 used the DVD Interface from the XMB. :)

B/G WiFi (Built-in with 60GB Verion Only) - it's unknown as to whether or not a standard USB wireless adapter will work with the 20GB version. So far Sony has no plans to release an official adapter, so if you want to use WiFi the safe choices are to go with the 60GB version or the 20GB version and purchase a wireless bridge. WiFi is used to connect the PS3 to the Internet, your home network, and to the PSP.

No one knows the answer to this question yet??? Japan-GAF??

Huh. Why do you have to turn the system off and on again. Just exit the game with the P button, go back to XMB, and put in the new game.

I can't f*cking believe it. So I just got a call from EB. I was # 16 out of 16 (it actually says 17 on the receipt) and obviously I'm expecting the bad news. BUT WAIT! Dude tells me since I was the only one to request a 20GB sku out of the 16 pre-orders, I get the first one in the store on the 17th. Apparently I found the one honorable EB in America. :lol Woohoo~! See you guys on the Res servers.

You can do that?

I only tried Tony Hawk and when I pressed the PS button while in-game nothing happened. It's like the button didn't exist. I was expecting the XMB overlay to show up like the X360 blade, but nothing happened at all...

K, thanks. If you can just quit the game and then eject it solves the game problem. Though I still want an eject button on the controller for movies >_< Not interested in buying a remote.

XMonkey

lacks enthusiasm.
Are there any leaks of BB allocation numbers like there was with the 360? It'd be really nice to know what my local ones are getting seeing as how Costco probably isn't gonna come through.

Totally happy with it. Jeez, this is the quitest system I've ever seen in my life, I can hardly tell it's on.

Controller works fairly well for the Blu-ray player though I can't figure out any way to eject the movie without walking up to the system and hitting the eject button. Blu-ray quality is niiiice :)

Stuck in Tony Hawk and it worked like NCSX had said. WOOHOO REGION FREE!!! Very happy.

First time I stuck in a game I got no sound!!! It was scary. But then I reset and everything worked properly.

Unwrapping it was very exciting. Holding it was like holding a newborn baby.

Don't have time to pop any real games in until after work ;_; But my early time with the PS3 has been like the first date with a beautiful girl. I am happy!

Though one question I do have is...where is the reset button/how do you reset? If you pop a game out through eject it still sits in the games menu and if you turn off the system with a game in when you turn it back on it starts the game. How do you change titles?

i am sooooo fracking jealous

I'm sure it will be added. The PSP didn't even support wallpapers when it launch.

If you're using Firefox, look under Tools-->Clear Private Data... then clear the cache.

but then , when i click next, i believe i receive an error message. probably i guess something about the user name or password not good or too short or long ? i cant understand it.

Are there any Easter eggs in Cross Media Bar that you could show us?

“A lot of these applications have been written by people who have written games, so I’m sure there are interesting little things in there. There are some secrets, but I can’t tell you otherwise I’d have to kill you.”

What prototypes did the external design of PS3 go through?

“There were two – no, three actually. One that was very much in the mould of traditional consumer electronics: slab fronted, and that never moved beyond the conceptual phase. This [the final design] is the one Kutaragi-san spent the most time on, although it did evolve a little bit from E3 2005. The basic shape is the same, even though it’s a bit bigger. Then there was another one that was a bit more out there, but I can’t tell you what it looked like because we may see it in other devices.”

What impact will downloadable content have on the way games are made?

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to continue to satisfy the demands of gamers, and having the community functionality embedded into the console means that on Monday I can launch a new level, on Tuesday I can see what people are saying about it, on a Wednesday I can respond to that feedback and on a Friday I can put into QA [Quality Assurance] a revised version of the next episode for delivery on a Monday. [At this point Phil has an idea for a Christmas-themed Motorstorm bonus called Snowstorm, and rushes off to write it down.]”

Is episodic gaming something that you are keen to experiment with?

“We are doing a couple of things which are bang on that objective. The area that I’m most excited about at the moment is empowering user-created content. Embedding the user creation tools into the game application and opening it up to a cloud of users. That’s the trend I’m most excited about.”

On the most basic level you’re talking about map makers, but how far could user-created content go with PS3?

“Well, I have to be really careful not to give the game away because we’re keeping this secret, but don’t think about it in terms of maps, think of it in terms of behaviours, environments, physics, rules… all the tools that you could want, but in a very consumer friendly way.”

Would you create this content using the pad, or a mouse and keyboard?

“The vast majority of the experience could be done with the pad, but for the small investment of plugging in a USB mouse there might be a second level, or a deeper level of finesse, that you could get in terms of pixel manipulation and paint programs or fine tuning things. Different users will have different wants; some will go all the way down to buying the special software that allows them to create their super levels. 95% of users are happy to be the consumer, but 5% are incredibly fanatical about creating a huge amount of content and the whole community benefits from it, and that is a really interesting trend. Look at Second Life. Everything about the experience is user-created content. That is a very, very powerful metaphor for where we’re going. We’ve got two things in development. One in this building and one with an external developer that, when we do share them with you, I think you’re going to go ‘Ah now I know what he was talking about.’”

Can you tell us more about Afrika?

“The game is non-violent, as you would expect. Videogames have always been a lot about wish fulfilment – I wish I could be a Formula 1 driver, I wish I could be a striker for Liverpool. That’s a fairly well established desire. One thing that hasn’t been explored is the ability to go places and have experiences that either through time or cost or safety you wouldn’t be able to do in real life.”

Finally, what is your favourite game-playing moment on any PlayStation?

“Bloody hell! The cardboard box in Metal Gear Solid. God Of War…just all of God Of War. On PS3, it’s seeing two cars collide realistically in Motorstorm, but the crash being nothing to do with me. Just the fact that I was hoofing it around, and I laughed at how they crashed. I had nothing to do with it – it was an event that just unfolded around me. It’s great that Evolution have delivered that experience. I’m so proud of what they’ve done.”

Ok got home. I went in to my local GS and picked up Resistence and RR7 (i moved my full auto money over), and he asked if I reserved a system, and what place was I? I said I should be first, and he said "oh you got the core pack right?" WOOHOO Still first and they remember me so i'm gold! So nice not to worry. Looks like all the people who there there early with me will get one : )
I also picked up:

2 optical audio cables
new 100 gig ps3 drive from the postoffice
new tv stand
new Sony str-DE598 reciever (not great but very nice and cheap!!)

It would be time to Mcguyver myself a nest for the ps3 but I just got called back into work for a double :( congrats those who got some good news today

Hope this hasn't been posted, as this thread and the Resistance one are impossibly long.

Sony and Insomniac, I am very, very dissapointed. Resistance will not output in 1080i. It's either 720p, or a 480p blur fest. What a pain in the ass it's going to be to change the screen resolution in the XMB everytime I want to play. Not to mention having to deal with the bad quality resulting from my CRT HDTV's crappy upscaling algorithms :(.

It should highlight a field in yellow when you return to the entry page after the error message, showing where the problem is.

That is rather disappointing for people with 1080p sets. The deinterlaced signal would probably look very nice otherwise.

Don't you just set the resolution in the XMB (once) and thats that - the PS3 will scale everything to that resolution ?

Well it wont scale dvd's or ps1/2 games. I know this is different, but I thought it didn't scale, it outputed set resolution.

Well that should be easy to check, put the ps3 in 1o8oi and play it... what happens?
