That dragons animated short reminded me of this parody SFM animation: Real Shimada Relationship. Don't watch this without headphones because while it isn't NSFW it's not really SFW. It's funny though.
It's funny but that's kinda how you can gauge the quality of something. If people are taking time out of their days en masse to draw porn of something it must pretty damn good

Yeah, but I think that's more of an echo chamber effect, where, like furries, they've been ostracized and booted out of most communities, and their own communities have no safeguard for quality or cringiness.

This can only be described as the Blizzard effect. First new franchise in 17 years and all of their characters are becoming instant iconic mass media pop culture phenomenons.
These characters look like something out of Big Hero 6 or How to Train Your Dragon, but I feel that these characters might be even bigger.
Their interconnected separate universes reminds me of how the characters of fighting games interact.
Hero shooters are not my genre. I was not really feeling Team Fortress 2 either. But I love the characters. All this work, money and design going into these! That gamespot documentary had one of the designers almost crying over how much he loved Tracer:3

See sonic has the benefit of time and nostalgia. So all that sonic porn is because the artists loved all the old sonic games so much that the character is still near and dear to them.
And yeah but it still points to quality usually the more rule 34 of something usually the better it is.

The only criteria is if it's popular and has any appealing characters. Quality is subjective, I could think certain shonens are crap but that doesn't stop them having more rule 34's than something else I think are better.
Also artists want to be "the first" and get loads of hits like some sort of cottage industry.

Yeah lol, one of the big reasons her design isn't too over-the-top is that they showed some restraint with her butt, so it doesn't overshadow the rest of her
When you draw her ass like that it basically takes all the focus away from everything else
Which is fine I guess if you just want to draw porn, but there's a lot of Tracer art out there that really doesn't match the tone of the character
All the promotional media featuring her somehow puts attention to her ass with the pose and all...including the cover art.
Looks like they went for a bubble butt rather than big ass.

Creepy is not the right word, but I understand why it's off-putting. Mei is one of the least-sexualized characters in the game. Big breasts themselves are not the issue, but when you have an ice cream cumshot dripping down onto extreme cleavage and very pronounced nipple bumps then yes it does rub people the wrong way.
It's really not difficult to comprehend that not everyone appreciates hyper-sexualized fanart.
