Since Blizzard announced Overwatch for PC last year, most of the gaming world has assumed it’s coming to consoles too. Now, GameStop’s all but confirmed it.

As of this morning, GameStop is taking pre-orders on the hero shooter for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, according to a NYC store I just spoke to. They’re offering the game for $60, which feels off—doesn’t this seem like a free-to-play game?—but who knows?

Wario was informed first and then it got confirmed by a Kotaku journalist. Source (Devil May Schrei)

Shoutouts to Gamestop

// Mod Edit:

Note that Blizzard sells retail versions of their f2p games with item/hero/etc bundles as well: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00X0GLXQG/?tag=neogaf0e-20

This would be an example of the types of things to expect out of a retail bundle if it's an f2p game:

This bundle includes:
Five Heroes: Sonya – Warrior, Zeratul – Assassin, Zagara – Specialist, Li Li – Support, and Jaina – Assassin
Ronin Zeratul Skin
Retail Exclusive Golden Tiger Mount
Quick Start Guide

It would cost 33,000 gold or more than $50 to buy these items individually. But why do that when you can get all of these great heroes, plus the exclusive Golden Tiger Mount, for a great value!

// Edit 2:

The retail pack is called Overwatch: Origins Edition: http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/11...aign=Blogroll&abthid=563b86899cdcaa694800000b

IGN has also contacted several GameStop locations in New York and received a similar response. Additionally, one store in Connecticut told us the game is currently titled "Overwatch: Origins Edition." We've reached out to Blizzard for comment and will update this story as soon as we hear back.

Console Authentication
Update 3:20 PM EDT: Two strings have been located which point towards console network authentication within Overwatch. We already has a pretty good idea that Overwatch was coming to consoles, but it looks like the support for it may be further along than anyone thought.

Major Nelson recently announced that the BlizzCon Opening Ceremony will be streamed on Xbox Live. I figured something was up then and Overwatch for consoles seems most likely.

Overwatch is Blizzard’s team-shooter for PC and consoles. Choose your hero from a huge roster of soldiers, scientists, adventurers, and oddities, each with their own unique set of abilities. Bend time, defy physics, and unleash a dizzying array of extraordinary powers in concert with your allies. Lead your team to victory in iconic locations across a near-future Earth. The world needs heroes!

It was bound to happen, but the price is weird indeed.

Aaaand, I think the source was actually Wario64. Weird Jason didnt gave him a shoutout.

So this also confirms no F2P?

Yeah tha tis something I am also curious about. I thought this was going to be a F2P title. or maybe this will just be one of those deals where they put the F2P title out with a bunch of the microtransactions bought as a hard copy. Similar to Heroes of the Storm having physical copies.

I'd be fine with $60 is it guaranteed minimal or cosmetic only microtransactions. And have all the characters included with the purchase of course.

I could actually see them doing a F2P and a full-price version.

$60 has to be a placeholder price, right? I can see this being F2P but also selling physical retail that includes the price (whatever it ends up being) as in game currency. Too many console owners still prefer hard copies of games so this should hopefully help grab those people.

I would prefer that more than microtransactions, or a subscription model.

But there are some seriously good F2P models out there now and Blizzard are smart enough to build upon HoTS. Overwatch looks pretty excellent but a full price game, I am not sure.

They could also be changing their plans. Maybe it was F2P but isn't now, maybe it's F2P on PC but not consoles. Regardless pretty cool it's coming to consoles.

Selling a $60 starter bundle and keeping the F2P model lets Blizzard have their cake and eat it too.

Blizzard could get away with and the game still being a massive success on both consoles and pc with 60 dollars. Being in the beta, it's probably the best fps I've played in over a decade.

Also, consider this. If it'll be a boxed copy there'll probably be a sweet Collectors edition.

....which I would be okay with.

That would also be extremely economical compared to all their other f2p games, so I suspect GameSpot it just putting the price there in the event it's retail, since they were told they could sell someone at some point and don't want people to expect a lower price if it costs more.

I would guess a $40 bundle with like 4 heroes and some skins.

Awesome. Been watching tons of streams the past few days and the game looks just my kind of thing. Like a mix of UT and TF2 which are my 2 favorite shooters ever.

Just heads up; All heroes will be available all the time for all players. There isn't HotS style weekly rotating heroes because OW is designed around being able to swap at any to any hero, to hard counter enemy comps.

yeah probably going to be stacked with unlocked characters and costumes, with a free version available as well..prob like killer instinct?

Source? Is this just in the alpha or did Blizzard confirm this as their overall plan?

This is what you get in the $20 Heroes of the Storm bundle:

The Blizzcon opening ceremony is tomorrow right? They're streaming it on Xbox One so I was expecting them to announce it then.

Any chance it's still F2P if you get it digitally?

Yes, they would just have this starter pack with some stuff out there for people who want it. You will most likely still just download it for free without anything unlocked (let's say cosmetics) from the PSN store.

I have never seen them actually confirm that. They said that hero switching was important though so it was something they were trying to keep in mind on the beta unveil stream.

However, they're even limiting heroes in the beta stress test weekends, which seems pointless given I can play with any hero right now unless they explicitly don't want you to get used to having all the heroes available.

I don't see console owners really getting on Overwatch at retail if it's not coming with a physical disc in that package.

Maybe they'll give you a support, tank and a damage dealer for free so you have all three roles and let you unlock the rest the characters.

Considering people were saying there was an interview with a Blizzard dev / rep that stated that all characters would be available at the start leads me to believe it's anything but F2P. Of course, he could've meant something completely different when he said that. Like, all characters would be available however you have to unlock them or purchase them. Lol. I'm totally fine with buying it though, however, I can't imagine it being $60, I mean The Orange Box (which included TF2) was that much but it was overflowing with content. I could see it being $30/$40, but who knows. Times are changing. :(
