PAL Charts - Week 52, 2014

No marketing is the main culprit. You still find people who don't even know it's out. Not sure what MS/EA were thinking by not marketing/bundling the game...

Yup. My brother isn't a massive gamer, but when I gave him access to my US PSN account for some games while I didn't have access to my PS4, he recognised every retail game I had bar that... Kinda sad, especially as he loved Skyrim.

The LBP and Driveclub bundles are helping them games a lot in the charts. Although I think Driveclub has probably seen a little resurgence at the same time.

You can buy Driveclub physical copy at lower price also. Not only the bundles affect good Driveclub sales.

£250... And all I'd play on it right now is Sunset Overdrive and D4...

NO HASNEY, BE STRONG. It'll be even cheaper come Phantom Dust/Scalebound.

Maybe a price cut along with some marketing will do the trick? EA can't be happy with how badly it's all gone for Inquisition, especially with how good it's turned out to be.

Its going to be interesting to see where prices of consoles go from here. The US price cut ends friday, but in the UK there was never an official hoilday price cut.

Yet you can get the console as cheap as £250 without games now. http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/xbo...toymaster-stores-250-ramsdens-grimsby-2100855

It would be suicide to try to return to anything over £300, arguably for either console but more so the Xbox one.

Well damn, looks like the VITA Slim is also £99 from Sainsbury.

Almost tempted to head down to my local and see if they have any left...

Yeah, re-stock for the new year with an RRP cut and get out an advert with a bunch of review scores and GOTY awards like publishers like to do for a mini-resurgence along with an XB1 bundle. Should at least shift some units, it did shit on the NPDs as well.

Man, unbelieveable how Mordor and Evil Within are still charting while Dragon Age hasn't charted at all.

Seriously UK what the hell? 0_0

Watching the new Hobbit movie gave me an urge to go out and buy Shadow of Mordor, I'll assume this is the same for other people, Dragon Age, got nada, not even trying to ride on the coattails of a hightened interest in fantasy atm. Would have thought MS would have tried hard to get a marketing deal given their history with Bioware.

Brutal holiday showing for Nintendo in PAL Land. At this point I would expect marketing of the system to dry up some there if it hasn't already. I wonder if amiibos did well at least.

Smash has been a complete and utter failure in the UK, which is surprising after Mario Kart did commendable. But then personally I've only seen some Pokemon and Tomodatchi ads on TV and nothing for WiiU, so there seems to be little/no push from Nintendo.

Maybe they needed another "Get a free game" promotion with Smash to help it like it obviously did for Mario Kart.

Well I know at least one child who got a wiiU for xmas and is loving it, so progress I guess.

Before I was the only person in my entire social circle that owned one, parents and children alike.

I have Dragon Age Inquisition and I don't think I like it very much. I think the combat is a bit wonky and I don't like how the maps are stitched together. I wouldn't recommend it to a new player. I'd be more likely to recommend Tales of Hearts R on #V1t4 or whatever.

I'm seriously wondering if EA didn't just send Dragon Age out to die in some odd insurance swindle at this point.

Between them and MS it's certainly not a case of being too cash strapped to run a decent add campaign, there's great reviews and top tier rewards to crow about, fantasy games haven't suddenly stopped being popular, and Microsoft have haemorrhaged money and thrown everything but the kitchen sink at getting the XO to actually sell.

Or maybe Bioware really have just screwed their fanbase over one too many times to recover. These games aren't exactly a broad appeal, casual friendly set of games, most of their potential customers likely do know it exists and is out, but DA2, SWTOR and ME3 where a pretty impressive hat trick of incompetence and contempt for their customers, so maybe the adverts wouldn't help.

Also damned shame about the WiiU. Really should have done the same free game deal with Smash as with MK, at the very least. I dread to think how bad next year will be with just Zelda to carry sales.

Looks like the PS4 is ending the year with a bang.

Aside from Ass Creed, it's got the highest selling versions of

GTA, COD, FIFA, Far Cry, The Crew, Destiny, etc.

Well, we can get a rough idea of how well the PS4 is selling by looking at DC. As almost every competitive console still has it bundled and it's risen two spots in the charts, that suggests that console sales are extremely strong.

Whereas if we look at the main games bundled on X1, we see them mostly declining...
So Sony was telling the truth about sales in EU being extremely strong and they are trying to keep up with the demand?
Well, I never doubted what they said but some people thought it was just bullshit PR

Anyway, good to see Driveclub selling strong! :)

Oh there will be. It might have done badly in the UK for some unknown illogical reason but it's done well in the U.S. I believe...I think...I hope...

Also you're obviously not the only one seeing how most GOTYs awarded Dragon Age this year, but seriously what the fuck UK? Do you not like RPGs?

Man, unbelieveable how Mordor and Evil Within are still charting while Dragon Age hasn't charted at all.

It did chart. Was 5th at launch and 33rd the next week. For All formats UK DA I was 5th, 14th, 20th over a month.

For some context, DA2 was number 1 and charted for 6 weeks in the top 20. DAI has had a poor showing over the EU and quite possibly US. DAI did not chart in the Nov NPD. It actually charted in the UK. We'll see how Dec NPD does but seriously, does the US not like RPGs????. DAI did not chart in the US yet it did over here.

Great for DriveClub considering what a clusterfuck of a launch that game had. I need to start saving for ps4 so I could grab one copy for myself.

MS should bundle FH2 with all xbones in the UK, it seems to be working extremely well for drive club.

GTA is a monster. Easily going to sell >50million I reckon, everyone I know is waiting for a 50% off on xbox store before double dipping, and then there's still PC to come aswell.

Shame that AW still hasn't outsold Ghosts in the same timeframe. I hope the sales picks up. It doesn't deserve lower sales than Ghosts.

Still full retail price in The Netherlands. I even saw some clown who was selling it second hand for 65 euro's lol.

Gold_Loot, The crew isnt a good game at all.
I'm enjoying it. My friends are enjoying it. People in the OT are enjoying it. If you don't like it, that's fine. We're all entitled to our own opinions. But your opinion is not fact, and shouldn't be treated as such.

they did bundle FH2 while it was still actual... now they bundle newer games.
Wait what shops? I don't remember that, it's gone from Titanfall>FIFA>SSO>CoD/AC with random games tossed in which may have included FH2 at times but not like Sony is doing with DC.

I think Argos had a FH2 bundle but who really goes there to buy a console especially when it didn't have much advertising to begin with? I'm not even sure if they still do that.

Wrll just because a bunch of people like it doesnt make it a good game either ;)

I thought the beta was horrid

Argos had a Horizon 2 bundle?

MS threw everything behind Horizon 2, seems the market just isn't interested in the IP, which is unfortunate. Maybe Playground should try to resurrect PGR instead...

Yeah I saw it in one of the leaflets you get in store. I just looked at their website and it's not there any more, but there's a MCC bundle.. I'm not sure if that's official or just custom art to advertise it better.

Googled forza horizon 2 bundle and found this - http://www.tesco.com/direct/exclusive-xbox-one-forza-horizon-2-bundle/795-7798.prd , this is the same box I saw in the argos leaflet. I don't have a tesco near me so not sure if they sold this in store or not, but I've never saw it in GAME or Asda.

For me, da2 had such a bad reception that I simply did not play the game, when inquisition come out, I want to play it, but I didn't want to skip da2 story since there will be da2 character in inquisition so I'm forcing myself to play da2 right now. Although I've also buy ps4 version of inquisition just to support bioware for releasing apparently great game. But I'm not surprised if not many does that.

This.

Not that Wii U's showing in the rest of Europe has been that spectacular obviously, but it's been a lot better than in UK, relatively to the market.
to be honest for Wii U, most countries outside France/Germany are much closer to UK

Yeah, no reason to be too optimistic about the Wii U even if it's doing slightly better in some countries. I mean, love the thing, but in my country (Norway) you hardly see it displayed even at retailers who specialises in video games, even less so in the general electric stores.

For the average consumer walking into a store, the choices available will appear to be ps4 or xb1, wii u are for those who have a special interest and inquire about it.

Pretty sure they didn't officially bundle Horizon 2.

Even now, none of the bundles I've seen feature Horizon 2. They all feature download codes for Motorsport 5 instead...

I have seen quite few bundles with FH2 in Germany.... there was something like this for official MSRP at this time, with 3 games:

Buy Xbox One 500GB FIFA 15 bundle, Forza Horizon 2 and The Evil Within Xbox One games together for £359.99 at Argos. This is an amazing bundle price but won't last long as the offer ends on the 4th of November 2014.

It wasnt The Evil Within, but it could have been FH2 + FIFA plus another controler... like this bundle in Austria:

xbox_one_xboxdynasty_1413186868_1.jpg

It was first deal I said wow at because at the time, PS4 was bundled with Fifa only for the same price, if even that.
