PAL Charts - Week 52, 2014

You can buy Driveclub physical copy at lower price also. Not only the bundles affect good Driveclub sales.

Indeed, Driveclub has been floating around the top charts on Amazon with its £24 price.

DA:I still no price cut... Only game with GTA and FC4 that haven't been discounted yet I think.

i'm getting dizzy thinking about how much bank Rockstar has made with GTAV..

it's fucking awesome though, because Rockstar isn't the kind of developer that will just sit on the money (*cough* Valve *cough*), you KNOW they are going to put piles and piles of that cash into the development of the next GTA and their other franchises. (i'm assuming Take 2 let's them which they will heh).

Do you have some numbers or you are calling it based on the UK chart position.

and i think DC must have destroyed Sunset Overdrive in Germany, France & rest of Europe too

Based on Sunset Overdrive dropping off the charts while Driveclub is still there. I have no numbers, but it's a pretty logical conclusion.

I thought it was vs Forza?

Darn, I'm getting all my wars mixed up now.
I need a chart to keep up.

Is Ryse vs Infamous still a thing

I'm just thinking exclusive released around the same time.

There's a bit more on sales figures in this one:
http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/uk-video-game-sales-rose-7-5-in-2014/0143433

If I'm reading this right, then December 2014 was down significantly relative to December 2013 -- around 9% down.

But something's wonky, yes? How is the retail market down 1.4% if last year's figure was £1.015 billion? See here:
http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/call-it-a-comeback-2013-in-numbers/0127108

(Terrible image and hard to read when you blow it up, but I have £1.015 billion in my spreadsheet from last year, which matches the blurry image included in that last link.)

Someone's revised last year's figures down, it appears, from £1.015 billion to £962 million (give or take).

Check my figures -- I'm very tired and it's very late.

Call of Duty is in a massive downward trend. Activision definitely needs Destiny to succeed. I dont think CoD is going to be lasting for more than few years or until or unless they do something crazy successful in it.

Its still the second best selling game of the year, WoW is still going stronger than other mmo's. COD will continue to do better than 95% of other console games for a while yet.

Well, a public company can't tell its shareholders to expect that to be a norm and #dealwithit just because it's still one of the industry's top dogs.

Activision's own competition is itself. It needs to figure out where to make up for the decline.

Don't know if we'll get platform figures, but I'm not surprised by the final figure -- just surprised at what appears to be a revision to the previous figures. That puts into question lots of stuff.

Btw have you tried to contact them about why they have revised? is it some error on their part of some new information they got? or some error on retailers part?

The article says that the sales of physical (boxed) video games decreased 6.6 per cent to £948.5m. What is 1.4% down is the sales of movies.

What stands out there for me is the decline of COD.

From over 3.2m sales to 1.8m this year.

The next one could go under 1.5m, half of what it would sell in 2010.

Despite what some think of Watch Dogs, I'm glad it's in there over AC (which missed out the top 20 this year for good reason).

Destiny will certainly become a million seller in the UK pretty soon which is great.

The article says that the sales of physical (boxed) video games decreased 6.6 per cent to £948.5m. What is 1.4% down is the sales of movies.

Yeah, 6.6% decline matches last year's figure (when accounting for rounding). So they don't seem to have revised last years, although that is actually something they often do. Most of their old numbers are out of date.

I'm surprised The Last of Us isn't there. Didn't it sell close to 1m in the UK? I vaguely remember reading it sold extremely well over here....

"The Last of Us" and "The Last of Us: Remastered" aren't combined, they're counted as separate games. But even if they were it wouldn't matter as these are annual sales, not LTD ones. It's very rare for a game to sell enough across two years to make both annual charts. Last of US would have had to sell over 776,888 in 2013 and another 704,069 in 2014.

Now we know with certainty that in reality Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare launch sales were barely up over the previous title. As you rightly pointed out, the 5.7% increase was due to the change from 90% to 95% market coverage estimate since MCV must have been using the raw reported numbers.

Ok, I'm going with (a) I was very tired and/or (b) they may have edited the text. Looks like it's right now. Thanks!

German charts for weeks 51 and 52 are up.

BKK, could you please post them here? A quick copy and paste will be enough, I properly format them latter for an easier reading.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Someone posts the German charts, please!!!! :p

In the meanwhile

http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=2029&s=1111

2015 gets underway with an unchanged Top 3, meaning ‘Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’ (-51%) has now achieved 6 weeks at No1, one more week than predecessor ‘Ghosts’.

‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (-48%) is not far behind at No2, staying ahead of ‘FIFA 15’ (-57%) at No3. Ubisoft’s top sellers ‘Far Cry 4’ (-42%) and ‘Assassin’s Creed: Unity’ (-48%) switch places with Far Cry moving up one place to No4 and Creed slipping down one place to No5. Ubisoft also find themselves at No6 with ‘The Crew’ (-54%) a non-mover.
Only 3,000 sales separate No7 from No10 as ‘Destiny’ (-47%) at No7 and ‘WWE 2K15’ (-40%) at No8 both manage to break back into the Top 10, up from No’s 11 and 12 respectively. ‘DriveClub’ (-56%) and ‘Minecraft: Xbox Edition’ (-57%) are less fortunate, both dropping 2 places to No’s 9 and 10. In a week not known for new releases Nintendo newcomer ‘Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker’ for Wii U debuts at No16.

GTA V next gen performance is something else. it's only a port yet managed to outsell blockbusters like Destiny and Watch_Dogs.

Captain Toad at 14 (individual), shame it didn't make the top 10 but considering it's not a big Wii U game not surprised.

A lot of Gaffers kept repeating that everybody and their momma already played it on PS3/XB360 and only some rich double dippers and a few new console owners would maybe get it. Also diminishing returns and reasons...

I'm surprised DC fell, bundles have been better than ever the past week and I'd have thought people would be eager to spend their Christmas money.
