PGR5 speculation thread Lucid dreams with Rare side effects?

I liked Blur, but for me it just didn't have the pure, clean, epic, car-and-city-porn feel of Project Gotham. So, yeah, they can make Blur 2, but they should make a new PGR first.

Oh and if they can ditch the licensed music and bring back the Richard Jacques sound-alike stuff from MSR, that'd be nice.

I'm not sure nudey photos would do much to help my case.

If they bring back more MSR features, they have to have a Swatch Internet Time option, yo.

Though seriously, I'd love if they brought back the radio system. PGR2 was phenomenal since you had near 200 tracks to listen to all over the radio stations and you could even insert your own custom tracks and have them play over the radio. I'd be happy if they brought back that system as PGR 3 and 4 kinda lacked some atmosphere on the music front that the previous games had.

The devs could just integrate with iHeartRadio and the game would have pretty much all the stations in the world. And since online might be a requirement, there is no need to worry about someone not be able to stream. Cuts the music licensing costs out.

Going on Dan Greenawalt's statement

..we want to go to an annual cadence and have the franchise get even better...

The PGR name probably won't be used?

If he wants the Forza name to go big, we'll more than likely see 'Forza' in the title right?

Storm chasing is one of the tent pole features of PGR5.

How awesome of a feature would that be?
Chase a storm, switch to photo mode and try to make great shots. I wouldn't care about a rather plain world as long as the storms+skybox are great.

Great idea. I loved the radio stations in PGR2, and actually having live radio from the city you're driving in would be amazing.

I would find it sad to see the PGR name go... and another Forza arcade racer is a bit much I think, at least if Horizon becomes a franchise.

I wonder how much help Turn 10 is giving to Lucid if indeed they are making PGR?

I mean, a studio of 40 people isn't a substantial number for a game like PGR....

If you are going off the hiring rumors. They are being backed up by Rare on this. So I wouldn't worry too much. Probably will have additional back up from T10 and Playground though.

A lot of car stuff is outsourced. Rabcat here in Austria does art for games, they also worked on Horizon and other Microsoft games. They do cars very well also.

A lot of that work is outsourced these days, much cheaper development overheads.
It's always been that way. A lot of the models from past PGRs and pretty much every Forza have been outsourced. Especially in PGR where I guess most of the resources go into the environment.

Shaneus had the most tangible clue that RARE might be helping out:
A) Worked for Bizarre, cutting all their trailers.
B) Worked for T10 on Forza 4 promos.
C) Worked for Sumo, which is racing based developer.

It kind of all give some credibility that T10 might have some role.

I'm guessing that asset sharing is probably going to be a big factor in this as well. I don't believe any happened b/w PGR4 and FM3 (or 2?) but I'm sure there was at least some tech that was handed over... in the very least, the way the reflections were handled. On 2 they were shit, PGR4 comes out, looks great, then all of a sudden FM3 has great reflections.

Yeah TBH I see no reason for Forza and PGR not to share models, especially with all that painstaking work gone into Autovista. Good way to pad the car list too, if need be.

Or at least they need to buy rights or whatever to use them from whatever modellers they both outsource to.

For the fans of PGR & Blur... thank you for the mails and messages. We remain grateful and humbled by your support for those games, they were indeed great games that the dev team sacrificed a lot for, so your words never go unread and they often bring back memories of a great dev studio and the people behind it.

..."Don't worry though, PGR will be back bigger and better than ever before."

I was hoping for a statement like that....

It's getting close though, we will soon find out exactly what's going on.

PGR5?
Forza: Street Racing?

...iOS game...?

Well they should just come out and say "We are not (co-)working on PGR" like Ruffian did with Crackdown 3 - would be a lot easier for the fans.

I think iHeartRadio is not available outside USA.

I spent the weekend playing Blur and was surprised to see it still as a really sizable community on X-Box Live with around 8-12,000 people online. Still as fun as it ever was. I'd love to see if in PGR 5 they could get the grid size up a bit to 20 players though some of the tracks and cities would have to be widened for it (I wouldn't be shocked if they went around 12-16 on track though).

Bro-Tip: Play Blur with Andrew WK's I Get Wet Album on the custom soundtrack. Best experience with a custom soundtrack since Black on the original X-Box with the same album.

I asked this of them on Twitter today: @LucidGamesLtd What's PGR4 plus PGR1?
Get a response or do they know who you are? 8)

That's a lot more than I saw last time I fired up the Xbox version a couple of months ago, although it might be timezone differences. I wonder if the Activision PR guy from oneofswords.com still runs community days? He was the only person at Activision who seemingly gave a shit. I currently play the PC version of Blur and it's dead online because of the hackers.

Edit: It seems the oneofswords.com fellow still runs occasional community sessions; last ones were on February 20th for PS3 and February 22nd for the Xbox. He says the Blur servers will remain up for 'as long as possible' according to a video on his YT channel.

Reads like a fantastic addition for the next PGR game. The pure racing lobby in Blur was a lot of fun with a grid full of cars.

According to this

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=556336

Turn 10 is more than likely going to be at E3. The question still remains, will they be there to announce FM5 or are they there to take the lead in announcing Lucid's game as they did with Playground's Horizon?

If they are there for Lucid's game (PGR successor) it most certainly means a Forza in the title of the game right?

Eh, it's still on their site:

and it's obviously from their own environments... look at this screen I took from PGR4:

And what else are we forgetting?

Won't be FM5:

But BADNED still said this:

And last but not least, why else would the very head of Lucid have reared his head in the PGR appreciation thread?

I'm confident, guys. You shall all pay the price for even contemplating doubting that a new PGR game, helmed by Bizarre Lucid would appear as a launch title on the new Xbox.

I remain hopeful of PGR 5 by Lucid too but if it doesn't happen, I still have all the PGR's to replay whenever I like 8)

I know all the signs are pointing to PGR5, (thanks to the incredible sleuthing in this thread), yet I can't help but feel nervous.

Lingering in the back of my mind is the petrifying thought that, assuming this hasn't been the biggest cocktease of all time and the game does indeed exist, it somehow fails to capture the magic of the Bizarre games.

The fear keeps me up at night. There are days I can't look at a meal without feeling like I'm going to throw it up before taking a bite. It's hard to tell up from down, and left from right lately, such is the weight of this anxiety on my psyche, and I cannot be held responsible for my actions in the event that it turns out to be a reality.

For those who might be interested, this shop is selling Blur on PC for cheap. I'm guessing they ship overseas, but I can only guarantee that they ship to Australia and NZ.

On that note, does anyone know if the online community for Blur on consoles is any good? Because I'm tempted to pick it up on 360 if the online community isn't as dead as the PC one due to cheating...

No way will FM5 be a launch title. Still, you cant launch a console without a racer.... an arcade racer.

8-12,000 people online isn't too shabby for a forgotten gem. I have both Xbox and PC versions and yep, the PC version is dead online thanks to hackers.

Somehow I doubt that. Even a month after Blur came out it read something like 200 people playing online. But maybe the counter was broke. I still heavily doubt there are that many people playing Blur.

And I'm not giving up hope yet. If not from Lucid, then elsewhere, and that reveal does not remove the chance of them still showing up on the 21st.
