I'm waiting for reviews for Farpoint. Think I'll miss my chance to get this if I don't pre-order?
Yes.

Man, at least the zapper looked coolFlashbacks...
I think the shape's as simple and smooth as possible so you can quickly slide your hands to the controls while blind-sighted, as well as generically mapping to multiple weapon types.
It's not PS Move
Therefore the mention of "no PSMove required."
I mean how hard would it have been to at least make it have the rough shape of a gun.
Its the exact same tech though. Dont pretend like this coloured ball is going to work massively better than the other coloured ball.
I came in to ask this exact thing. There's no reason this would track any better or be more precise than a Sharpshooter, right?
What does it matter? You won't be seeing it while playing, anyway.
That has got to be the ugliest gun I ever saw in my life.
Direct quote from the designer -
Taichi Nokuo: I tried to make the design of the Aim Controller as simple as possible. It was important that the player can use it safely and comfortably with the PS VR headset on, and that the controller can be used as any type or form of weapon inside the game.
I made the intentional decision for the controller to not resemble an actual weapon, so that anybody, from children to adults, feel comfortable playing with it.

That shit looks fucking trash, yo.
I mean, a lot of people like the overdesigned Ghost Squad guns at the Arcade because it looks like a realistic gun.
And in VR, the Aim controller will also look like a realistic gun.I mean, a lot of people like the overdesigned Ghost Squad guns at the Arcade because it looks like a realistic gun.
Nobody knows until someone open it up and examine the internals, whether there are improved motion sensor or gyro. During the PS3 era, sharp shooter capability only went as far as pointing your gun on the screen and shoot enemies with the crosshair provided, basically a point and shoot. With Aim controller, they went as far as tilting the gun sideways or any direction and no crosshair in game. What 1:1 mean is when you are turning the gun to the side or flip around the gun, it is tracked in game, you will see your in game gun being tilted or flipped.
Thanks a lot for the info and clarification! Glad to know that it does have some improvement and not just a remodeled version.Hey, Sean here with CNET. I can't say for sure what the final peripheral includes, but as of last E3, it was going to have both additional motion sensors and greatly reduced latency compared to PS Move / Sharpshooter combo. That's according to Farpoint studio head Seth Luisi, who I spoke to there. And playing it, I can attest it felt way the heck better. Night and day compared to Killzone 3 with Sharpshooter -- none of that "I'm swinging vaguely the direction I'd like to fire" BS, just point and shoot.
The big limitation, like Move, is you can't expect it to keep tracking if you turn around. The camera needs to see that light-up ball.
I wrote a thing about it: https://www.cnet.com/products/sony-ps-vr-aim-controller/
it looks like a realistic gun that you will be seeing in real life while interacting with the game. In VR, you won't be seeing the controller AT ALL, that's the point.
Doesn't stop the fact that it's ugly?
and? what is the problem here, you are worried that people are laughing at you while playing it or what?
I mean I'm not denying that it's ugly, but so what?
People want the things they own to be aesthetically pleasing? Why is this so hard for people in this thread to understand?
This thing makes me long for the days when they made lightguns that would get shot by police if you walked around outside with it.
This is badass. You could probably rob a gas station with this thing.
This is some goofy ass Spy Kids shit.

I think you're missing the point. It gives an affordance of being able to pick it up and shoot without completely looking like a gun. It's a nice design.
It can't be a nice design if it's ugly. I get that its meant to be universal, and I'd argue there are other ways to do so, but the aesthetics matter regardless.
If it were bright pink with spider designs on it, would it still not matter because you can't see it in VR?

Probably for the same reason it seems impossible for you to understand that it's not a gun. It's a tool that changes form and function based upon the game you're playing. It could be used as farm implements, or a water line in firefighting game. And, of course for this first wave of games, it is a gun ... But it's pretty easy to understand why it was designed not to look like one. I happen to agree with the choice, and I also think it looks pretty cool.
Be honest. Are you wearing socks with sandals right now?
Honestly, until I saw that unboxing video, I didn't realize it actually had dual sticks. That's pretty nifty.
Soooo is this thing actually an improvement, technology wise, over the move or what? Did they just take a PSmove and slapped into a rhombus?

Have you considered therapy? No, really. You make that terrible comment about children basically being weak if they don't want to hold guns, then you start derailing the thread with personal attacks. Focus on the Aim, not kids and personal attacks.
Back to the topic, pretty much everyone that has used it says it functions perfectly. I do want to see reviews it real world settings, but I'm hoping it's as good as they say.

This makes me want an HD PSVR edition of the original Time Crisis... "The one man army, Richard Miller."People want the things they own to be aesthetically pleasing? Why is this so hard for people in this thread to understand?

What sad little wiener child is going to feel uncomfortable holding something shaped like a real gun? Kids love pretend guns. Cap guns, potato guns, bb guns all staples of childhood.
"Aesthetically pleasing" is being thrown around a lot by people who clearly have no idea what aesthetically pleasing design actually is.
ITT: GAF has awful taste.
This thread is really going places.
I take it that you're cancelling your PS VR Aim Controller pre-order.
